Speed at corner

Like I can’t believe anyone in their right mind would try to correlate 36.6 meters (40 yard dash) into a 100 meters......that’s even stupid for the board.

You don’t know where that guy is strongest at...it could be the start, the middle or even the finish but for a MFer to say “nowhere near” is some of the dumbest crap ever read...
100m runners don't run the same style. There are many different body types and styles. Some start faster in the splits, some end faster in the splits. Not sure what you mean by "Maintaining speed", that's not very specific. Maybe you should lead below and learn something.

After NFL combine every year there will be some fans arguing how players can perform in 100m sprint race. Also, fans will also argue what is the real 40-yard dash record ran by Bo Jackson when there is electronic timers.

Therefore, I do some researches on how the time split of 100 meter sprint athletes can be related to a short distance run. I am using the result of 100 meter Man 2009 Berlin Championship Sprint where Usain Bolt broke his world record 9.58s here (data can be retrieved here).

Normally a 100m sprint athlete reach his top speed at around 50m, consider the acceleration of athlete is changing it is hard to compute a very accurate result. Fortunately the 20m time split of athlete is highly linear (Graph of some athlete's 20m split and their R2 value are often 0.999 or higher). It is due to elite athlete reach their 90% speed near 20m and the acceleration and deceleration is small compare with their speed (Speed of medal winner can be found here).

As the graph plotted above the slower athlete tends to have a more gentle slope and smaller y-intercept in their 20m split graph. Therefore, by comparing the slope and intercept we can find how their time for short distance change with their 100m time.

By using all available time in 2009 Berlin Championship relationship of their slope and intercept is plotted as below.

Slope

Y-intecept

However, the error will accumulate when the athlete is slower.

Error in 100m time

To tackle the problem I use estimated 100m time to normalize the estimated time to actual 100m time in order to make it more accurate. This is the excel file which consist all the data and graphs.

It has a calculation tools to calculate 40-yard dash time out of 100m time. Be careful that the data will be extremely inaccurate after 13s 100m

A quick convert or tl;dr of the calculation

100m timeEstimated 40-yard dash
9.794.2
10.274.3
10.644.4
10.954.5
11.214.6
11.454.7
11.734.8
Finally it is some comparison of NFL player time and estimated time (Note that NFL combine and 100m sprint is running on two types of floor and 100m sprint time is their best time, so small variation is expected). As players compete much more times for their personal best, feel free to add ~0.05s for more probable calculation.

Where are the 100m times from? High school or college?

This is a bit into the future but now at Coral Gables High and a freshman Darren (DJ) McQueen is a 2022 CB that has run 23.20 at 200 meters in his first track meet this early season. Will be a burner when he gets older.

Malek Young could've been one. (Had a 4.42 in HS)

Unfortunately he had the neck issue and had to stop playing.

But he was going in the right direction to be a quality CB for us.

When was the last time that we had a true speedster who was also good at corner? Artie burns?

Youve been provided trajans 40 and 100 m meter which are far closer to my estimates. You refuse to believe basic science so i wont argue with you anymore.

i dont think we have offered any burners.

I think they prefer size to the true speed.

The img kid is a track kid so he can run. Not sure if we get him though.

DMoney we got to see these opening results foreal. Still remember seeing Sanguinetti's early last year and calling it out that he wasnt that athletic. We are gonna see it with alot in this years group as well i believe.
Just out of curiosity where did sanguinetti end up signing at? I know once word got out on his lack of athleticism he wasn’t a take anymore for a lot of programs.

You get that with huff and brooks. Huff at times played safety for sta and at his previous school and brooks has legit high 4.58 speed or so

Where are you getting Brooks is a legit 4.58. Last time he ran was as a sophomore, when he was just a skinny kid. Then got hurt and played his senior year slowly getting back to 100%. I like Brooks, but let's not make things up.

Tf are you talking about let’s not make things up?, he ran a 4.62 laser 2 years ago at the Nike opening. He’s a special athlete and if he tested last year without the injury he would have had a 125 plus score imo

This is why we're paying the price for missing on Campbell & Henderson.
Cambell doesn’t upset me so much because he was never coming here. Henderson is the one that really ****es me off because Rumph made a huge rookie mistake with chewing him out before he signed which obviously ****ed the kid off and he went to UF. The kid was coming to UM prior to that. In recrutung you have to feed the ego a little until there signed and then tear them a new ***. Rumph should have been smarter then that as signing day was just a few days away. After the fax comes in then let him know that’s not how Canes conduct themselves.

So like I said the last time he ran was 2 years ago, when he was much lighter, was't a 4.58, and had a major injury. Again I love the potential of Brooks, not trashing the kid by any means and glad we got him, but we don't make to make things up.

Maybe after being here, getting even healthier and in a cfb strength & conditioning he'll get to 4.58 (which would make him an absolute monster). I'm just saying we don't need to make things up.

He was also 18 years old against a pretty good schedule

Lol, also, being a unicorn athlete doesn’t mean you literally cannot get beat. You can be a great athlete and not be a great corner. We’re talking about one thing here lol

Kindly provide the tangible evidence that he runs anything other than a 4.58.

Thanks
