Saturday practice buzz

Front 7. There will be more additions.

As it stands right now, there is no doubt the front seven is the biggest weakness, hopefully that will change with the portal. I’ve been saying this since the season ended, so I couldn’t agree more.

There are a couple of bright spots, including Steed starting to step up even more after all the bad luck from the injuries. He’s going to be an important piece, but we need more.

Expectations are absurd on the portal. All top teams from Bama and down are going full at the portal. Top tier guys don't need to transfer. You get exactly the opposite, you get solid proven guys.

Top tier guys go from lower programs to higher ones.

G5 to p5 or low p5 to more elite teams.

Evaluation is key. Some guys make the transition much better than others. I agree that bonafide, proven p5 impact players are much harder to find. You usually end up projecting.

@DMoney with the Dline are the starters not looking as good or is it just more of a depth issue? Who if anyone do you expect to take the biggest jump

No sir olave is way faster. At osu he consistently ran past people and ran a 4.39 40. George ain’t running close to that. I would like to know where urban finds these wrs cause all them dudes are running 4.3

I wouldn't be surprised if George ran a 4.39 if he goes to the Combine as a senior. I could see him leaving after his Junior season. George is fast af you're not catching him from behind he's smooth with everything he does until he accelerates past you to the ball or the end zone.

If you can't see the comparison in route running and natural pass catching I don't know what to tell you and he's not lacking speed AT ALL

Just in case anyone wants to see what he did his senior year in high school at plantation be my guest.

We all know were lacking certain type of players that were now recruiting. Thing is with this new staff we may take some lumps in the first half of a game, but I like our chances to go into half time and make the correct adjustments and come back second half and win some games that last year we loose. Pretty sure no-one thinks we're going undefeated but this staff is going to keep us in games and win the ones we should.

Did Gattis use a lot of 2 Back sets at Michigan? I think we have an extremely talented backfield and need to take advantage of the different types of backs we have.

The game has changed sir. Steed has enough size. He is 5’11-6’0 225. For comparisons pappoe at auburn is 225 and he started for Steele at mlb when he weighed less than that.

I don't know the situation at Auburn under Steele. It's probably stupid of me, but I've hated the SEC so much I honestly never wanted to watch them play except in bowl games where I rooted for the opposing team to beat them.

But unless big boy Miller or Haye break out and earn a starting spot at the 1-Tech or Nose, we'll be light up front, too, with LT + JHH (Moultrie, Lichtenstein and Roberts even lighter). So it's not just about Steed. The center of our defense needs to have some mass to it.

Just to put a point on it, we had Pierre (300 lbs) and Wyche (340 lbs) on running downs when Perryman was in there, with Kamalu (295) coming in on our fast package, or Chickillo (280+) moving insude. Moten (295) was rotated in. Big up front relative to this 2022 group as is.

(Long sigh) Yeah I don’t know what happened here but Mario might have played this one wrong.
It's very possible that he could have but I don't know nearly enough to say that for certain. Even assuming he did play it wrong I'm ok with it. He had a very difficult task coming into the cultural mess left by his predecessor and some casualties we're inevitable. Considering everything that Mario has brought to and has interjected into the program on multiple levels I can certainly live with the occasional honest mistake.

He did use some 22, 23 & 21 personnel, but mainly he used 12,11 & sometimes 13.

Michigan almost had two 1,000 yard rushers last year. They ran the ball 575 times & were 15th in rushing with Hassan Haskins going 1,327yds & Blake Corum for 952yds. So he does use a multi-back system, just not always on the field at the same time.

We’ll probably have some 22 packages, but mostly will be in 12 & 11.

George was also breaking tackles in the secondary last year

He was pretty lean but he ran strong for a young WR

Could be a huge problem
