- Jacolby George is starting to separate from the pack. He snatched a 50/50 ball from Te’Cory Couch and consistently makes plays.

- There was no full scrimmage but they had a short full-contact period. Thad Franklin had the best run, bouncing off the first-team defense and finishing with physicality. I like him as the lead back if his mind is right. Cody Brown scored an off-tackle TD against the backups.

- TVD threw a laser to Restrepo in the end zone. Their confidence is off the charts.

- Jaleel Skinner has been catching balls from all the QBs and is more advanced than expected. The tight end group is one of the strongest on the team. Khalil Brantley caught a TD during red zone work and Dom Mammarelli is enormous as a blocking TE.

- Waynmon Steed is really stepping up and solidifying his starting spot, along with Keontra Smith. Not a lot of rotating thus far. Wesley Bissainthe had a big TFL on an end-around to Brashard Smith (as described by @BigCaneAl) and Gil Frierson also had a well-timed tackle in the backfield.

- The battle to watch on offense is Logan Sagapolou (started today) versus Ousman Troure. Jalen Rivers and John Campbell are already getting work so that position is about to get tight.

- Expect to see several more Portal additions, especially on defense. Offense is way ahead right now and injuries are exposing depth issues.

- Overall, practice is more physical. More drilling for taking on/getting off blocks, more gap runs, more run-defense team drills. The key now is acquiring more talent and building up the roster.

Heres hoping George can produce in the realm of what Rambo provided last year. We get @800yds from him, he will couple well with X and whoever steps up on the outside along with Jacolby. Tight End will be a money position for Gattis to utilize well this coming season. Having Mallory back healthy will be key there along with Arroyo, Skinner and Mamarrelli‘s blocking. I concur on looking into the Portal for additional DE/DT help, 1 more LB perhaps, and another CB for depth and competition. Loving how Mario runs his practices, getting the most bang each session.

Appreciate the blessingsss..

Mentioned before but QB, TE and Safety seem to be positions that are high level.. Defense is FULL of holes tho, espcially front 7.. Not surprised they want to throw numbers at it

Sounds good. We got a ways to go, but I’m confident we’ll get there. Gonna take more talent and a little time. Thanks for the breakdown.

Do you think we are better at this time then we were last year? We lost a lot of close games last year.. can these guys win those games based off better coaching and defensive scheme?

Great stuff @DMoney

Would you say that the OL has been a pleasant surprise regardless of the injuries? If the OL begins to gel this offense will be scary good. K. Smith, J.George and X will be the starters. What I want to see going forward is for the 4-6 WRs to steadily improve and be capable playmakers. That shouldn't be too much to ask with Brinson, Ladson, Smith, Redding, Worsham and Horton competing. This TE group is going to really be something. A healthy Mallory with Arroyo and Skinner plus the RBs in the passing game is going to literally destroy defenses. If this OL can get it together in terms of run blocking then we are going to light up the scoreboard.

The situation on defense doesn't surprise me. Bozo left us with practically nothing in terms of the front 7 but we have to do the best we can with what we have for now. Adding more via the portal is a no brainer. We desperately need a Mike LB, another DE, a DT and another CB. We add those pieces plus get everyone back from injury and we can be a good defense. What's obvious is that as bad as we thought the situation on the front 7 was, the reality seems to be that it's even worse. Not one mention of Cave, T. Johnson, Troutman, or Huff is very telling and outside a few words from Strong during a post practice interview, Flagg hasn't exactly set the world on fire but that was expected more or less. It's unfortunate that Chase Smith has missed a huge opportunity this spring but once healthy he will have his shot. The LB corps looks like Steed, Smith, Smith and Bissianthe with Gil at the Star position. The next 2 recruiting classes will need to address the front 7 in a big way.

I think the lack of athleticism at CB is exposing are safeties maybe, cause if our corners are getting constantly toasted then safeties have to cover more ground and help more over top which may leave gaps
Our Safeties are fine but they are still young and have plenty to learn. Then consider how many holes we have in this defense and it's just too many fires to put out no matter who your safeties are. Then add to that the offense they are going up against which is one of the best offenses in the country.

The staff is going to make practice hard, tough and difficult so when it comes to game time it's going to seem like a breeze in comparison. Look at our schedule and know that our offense will be the toughest and most difficult matchup for our defense and yes that includes ATM and Clemson.
