Rumph Learning from Mistakes?

Who did coach Kool land only bc of his own name and reputation??? I dont recall DJ Johnson constantly recognizing Coach Kool as the main reason he committed, he grew up a big UM fan so Coach Richt could've gotten him no matter who he hired as DL coach.

Who knows why with Johnson, Garvin, and Ford? You know why no cares for the reason they signed here? Because they signed here.

Listen. Rumph's a good coach. Definite step up from Paul Williams, especially as it relates to coaching kids up and setting them up for long term success. But his job is to also recruit. He has a resume now where he should be able to walk in with some attitude and compete with other coaches for kids:

- 1st round draft pick
- Played for a national title team
- Lead a HS program in the most competitive state to multiple state titles
- Has a full year under his belt where his unit exceeded expectations
- Will be able to claim that he improved player draft stock like Corn Elder

* I'm also watching Malek Young in how he develops as that kid looked like he was getting comfortable in the 2nd half of the year.

Just an opinion! He got some new blood,.. Got some work to do in regard to proving his ability (to these recruits) at this level. He has more to work with this year as well..we have some great receivers came in!! Give the man a chance to further prove what he's selling!! I think he may surprise a lot of us!!

We really only "lost" two recruits this cycle, Booger McFarland Jr and Edwards. Since Edwards apparently has no self esteem, he was a gator all the way so Rumph didn't really lose him. If what Brooklyndee said is true (and no reason to doubt him) we didn't lose Henderson, we dodged a bullet. I saw some posters say we don't have the luxury of being choosy when a kid is as athletic as Henderson. Wrong. If you are told a kid is a locker room cancer and/or will start being a major headache the second he is unhappy, then you have to decide if the squeeze is worth the juice. We have three independent pieces of evidence that show Henderson was a head case.
1) Decomitting after committing
2) his own head coach basically throwing his hands up in the air and publically calling the kid out for constantly flip flopping and not abiding by his word
3) throwing down his shoulder pads and storming off the field in the all star game because he wasn't starting.

You know what a real Cane would do? Play ball and prove he should have been starter. When Rumph told the kid that he wasn't living up to Hurricane standards, the kid cut him off. Didn't say he was wrong or had a bad day, just acted like a baby and pouted. You want a kid who acts like that on a national stage like the all star game on your team? You can criticize Rumph all you want but this is exactly the type of kid who drags others into his bad decisions and gets them all suspended, then ends up getting kicked off the team for rules violations. Henderson barely played cb in high school, which means he needs a **** of a lot of coaching. He immediately showed the coach he has no interest in improving or listening to him. I say good riddance.

Kool was a huge factor in landing Jeff Thomas.

Didn't learn a **** thing from Byrd doing the exact same thing last year.

So he should be invested in recruiting players acting like total assclowns in high school. Spend 80% of the time on dealing with a couple players with terrible attitudes and disciplinary issues instead of coaching technique. You know what Rumph has proven he was actually very good at? Coaching CBs and turning ok players into good players. Until it's proven otherwise, he should be able to recruit the type of players he believes will be most successful.

Forgot about that Missouri connection. Yeah, that blows that crusade out of the water.

Listening to Rump whine and complain about 17-18 year olds and their parents is distressing. These were 50/50 battles that he simply couldn't close. Rump came across lame and tired in his reasoning. He would have been better off taking the L quietly instead of whining, complaining and calling out players by name.

If he doesn't toughen up he'll be out of a job soon. My question for Rump is where was his contingency plan in the event he didn't close on either player. Both these kids decommitted from UM earlier in the process, instead of moving on Rump continued to recruit both and was eventually stood up at the alter. Why would the parent's need to talk to them if you yourself can't convince them?
Don't be ridiculous you acting like the whole staff didn't choose to recruit them and it was only rumphs choice to chase after them... rumph and the other coaches outside of kool recruits who diaz or richt tells them to recruit....

This is the money year for Rumph and Brown

Rumph: Seal the deal on Campbell, keep Jobe and pull Surtain. If you can lock down the kid that calls you his dad, it's a start. Keeping the best corner in the country (IMO) away from Alabama in Jobe is the second step. Signing the highest ranked corner in the country proves that you can be a recruiter at this level. I'm not even counting Blades because if we don't sign him the program needs to be shut down.

Brown: Sign Davis. And then sign one of Lingard or Cook. The end. Get it done.

Who has Banda got to not be included. Y'all hype him so much

It's recruiting sh*t happens. Dameyune Craig lost his top targets Devonta smith to bama and jhamon ausbon to Texas a&m who flipped from lsu. He all of a sudden can't recruit anymore or is not a good recruiter?

Dameyune Craig has a proven history and track record at this level. Does Rumph?

Well he was just fired.

a number of coaches who miss on recruiting targets every year. He was fired mainly because his named was linked to other jobs that he was actively looking for in a pivotal month of recruiting for lsu

I'm saying even with his recruiting track record he missed on his targets too

Lol y'all make up the dumbest ****... Coach Dugans was the main one recruiting him, and Thomas wasn't even thinking about us until he linked up with some of our commits at the UM game.

Coach Kool is probably the most decorated dline coach in CFB and you're trying to tell me bc he may have had a slight part in Jeff Thomas's recruitment that some how is suppose to validate his recruiting this season when he's had as much "success" as Rumph?? Let's try to make sense if you're going to be bias

"“It’s just confusing to me. I wish the parents were a little more involved. When you’re making a big decision, for him to have his first decision about the rest of his life, I wish the parents would be more involved., "

How many times on here (and other message boards) have I seen poster complain the opposite when a player wants to go to Miami, but his parent(s) don't want him to?

"
“I always tell the high school kids it’s a business, go with your hearts,"

What the **** does this mean? Those are usually opposites when making a decision.

Mike Rumph is excited about the cornerbacks UM signed, Trajan Bandy and JUCO arrival Jhavonte Dean.

“I think we finished pretty well, we got two really good corners who love the University of Miami,” Rumph said. “They’re selfless corners, all about the team.”

He adds that “You can pay attention to the four stars and the rankings, but you can’t measure those kids’ hearts. Us being in South Florida and really listening and learning about these kids, it showed us they’re kids with big hearts that want to be successful here. We’re excited to have them.”

Asked about Bandy, Rumph said, “I think he’ll be able to play different positions whether it’s nickel or corner. He has a big passion for the game, a lot of the locker room is familiar with him because he’s been around a good amount. He’s going to fit us well.”

Of Dean, Rumph said, “he’s a mature corner, great athleticism. He’s going to fit in real good because he’s from here, the corners know him, and he’s a confident kid. It’ll make our room more mature and confident.”

Rumph also says Dean’s mentality “is like a throwback Sean Taylor, Frank Gore - just `coach, I don’t fear anyone, I just want to play ball, I just want to win.’ I said `Wow, you sound like the throwbacks I used to play with.’”

Of course, Brian Edwards and CJ Henderson are the ones that got away.

“It came down to two days before signing (day) and they don’t know what they want to do,” Rumph said. “It’s just confusing to me. I wish the parents were a little more involved. When you’re making a big decision, for him to have his first decision about the rest of his life, I wish the parents would be more involved., but it was just very tedious and nerve-racking, I can tell you that up until the phone call I got at 12 (a.m. from Dean committing).”

Rumph says he’s learned from the recruiting losses.

“I always tell the high school kids it’s a business, go with your hearts, (but) I really want kids to consider to come here and not flake out on us at the last minute,” he said. “We’ll learn from when we do lose. When they finally tell me `Okay, I want to go here, I’m not going to Miami (I asked) `What was it, what can we do better the next time?’ And now I have some idea of different ways we can pursue things.”

Rumph says that he’s “already had” those conversations with Edwards and Henderson.

“I just wish more people would talk to them about their decisions, think about it more,” Rumph said, adding that an emphasis will be “just more pressure to make sure you land the kids you were recruiting for the year.”

At the end of the day the two misses didn’t take the shine off UM’s signing day.

“I’m so happy - as of now we’re just happy, excited to get some quality kids,” Rumph said.

Thoughts??
