Radakovich official

I almost feel now the same way I did when we were dominating...whether or not it all pans out is still TBD but this feels much different than the other times we were supposedly "back". The U may not be all the way "back" yet, but we are back in the game big time!!!

His new title: vice president and director of athletics.

President Julio Frenk announced that Radakovich will report directly to Frenk and serve as a member of his senior leadership team
.

“I am so grateful to President Frenk and the University’s Board of Trustees for this incredible opportunity,” said Radakovich. “Their commitment to Miami Athletics’ comprehensive pursuit of excellence and championships is what brought me back to Miami. As a unified Hurricane family—students, alumni, donors, and fans—there is nothing that we cannot accomplish. We are going to set the bar high and jump over it.”
Has a complete overhaul of a program like this happened this quickly before? Awesome to see

A school like Miami has no business not having a men's soccer team. The gateway to the americas with access to South America and local Latin talent and no futbol...and we're sponsored by Adidas?!?! How is that allowed to happen?

This goes back to the 1990s, and the cuts made by AD Dave Maggard. He ****-canned Men's Golf and Men's Swimming, due to budgetary and Title IX concerns. The "budgetary" made a weird amount of sense, because we had been an Independent for a long-time and were just about to join the Big East. We did NOT have much revenue back in those days.

The Title IX argument always angered me. Title IX should be about giving MORE opportunities to women, not reducing opportunities for men. Maggot Maggard should have focused on doing a lot more fund-raising for the Living Scholars program, which funded sports scholarships.

Down the road, I would love to see Men's Soccer, and a comeback for Men's Golf and Swimming. We also need to ADD women's sports, and I think Lacrosse and Softball would be two fantastic additions.

Couple of things.

First, from an overall structural standpoint, you have elevated the role of AD to a more senior level. This is a actually one of the first great "legacy" things that I've seen from Frenk, as it will be harder to "go backwards" in the future (i.e., hire a guy as inexperienced as Eichorst or Beta Blake).

Second, there will be "more meetings" to attend for Rad, but also more OPPORTUNITIES for him to interact with other people at UM. I would expect that you would see a few more meetings on CONTRACTUAL opportunities that could be dreamed up to get adidas (or Nike) more heavily utilized at UM (go back and look at what Jurich was setting up at Louisville before the scandal). I would also expect Radakovich to have a chance to integrate UM Athletics more into the the calendar and lifestyle of the UM student body. I would also think that you could tap Radakovich to share his skill set on overall UM "master plan" building ideas.

But, yeah, at first, it might be a lot of "extra meetings", from a time standpoint, so I think it will be GREAT to have a larger staff at Hecht to help Radakovich do his job.

After this post, I'll try to find, cut, and paste a post I made in another thread, having to do with the duties of an Athletic Director. Then, you can kind of connect-the-dots on how he can be integrated into the overall business of the larger UM functionality.
Good stuff.

Sounds like the new structure is almost as important as who they hired. This allows athletics to be on equal footing and tied in with the rest of the University as opposed to a satellite operation under university umbrella. No more redheaded stepchild

Got ****, we made him a VP too! Now I know why the negotiations went on so long!
I was thinking the exact same thing! You notice that the write up included, “Radakovich will report directly to Frenk and serve as a member of his senior leadership team.” Seems like the learned from their experience with Blake. Echevarria and Radakovich both serving on the senior leadership team will be huge

Edit: i hadn’t read thru the entire thread when typing my response so i’m catching up on all your posts hahaha. Great stuff!

Might be the biggest upgrade in sports history
Totally True but to be honest when someone is a piece of toast like Blake James was everything else seems like joes stone crabs. Even if it was McDonald’s

There’s nothing better in professional life than following someone who was a total failure

Coach L is one of the best Basketball coaches in the country. L had us rolling right up until the FBI dropped the hammer on him and the program. Granted. He's getting up there in age and the game may have started to pass him by but the hate this man receives on this board isn't warranted.
I'm not AS hard as many on L but he absolutely should be coaching for his job this year. After this many years the FBI probe as an excuse just isn't acceptable. We need to finish this year and look back and be like L did a good job with the roster AND we need to have realistic optimism about the immediate future of the program.

Issue is Title IX.... we need to find a sport that can accommodate the same number of women. .... maybe women's lacrosse or quilting or something....

Problem with having football and baseball is that it adds large numbers on the men's side which needs to be offset with women athletes...

Early 1980s. I mean, not "one week" quickly, but where we went from the 1970s (sub-.500 for-the-decade in football, no basketball, so-so baseball) to where we were by the mid-1980s (national championships in football and baseball, and a return of the basketball program), which was a pretty **** profound overhaul.

Miami not having a Mens Soccer program makes me question a lot of things. You're literally in South Florida.
