Pac 12 Players Asking for 50% of revenue to play this year

another question (for universities and colleges): why have sports at all?
And therein lies the political question that Iv
Yeah the players have more to lose by sitting out, assuming one team isnt adversely affected with too many opt outs. The real question is how will these pac 12 guys spend their $700 Check if they get it?
Giant pizza?

This is likely not going anywhere.

I’m 100% in favor of increased player compensation, comprehensive health insurance, to include a limited amount of time post career (like a subsidized extended Cobra), as well as enriching the current likeness compensation deal.

But these west coast goofballs started from such an extreme position, they set themselves up for failure.

Some of you guys are talking about negotiations 101. Here’s one maxim: you don’t start from such an extreme position that you’re not taken seriously.

It‘s like offering 50 g’s for a new Porsche Turbo S at the lot. The salesman will just walk away from you.

That would bankrupt the rest of collegiate sports. Football is king for $$ and funds the rest of the athletic departments

Demanding revenue when schools are dropping sports and are probably going to be taking losses across the board this year with lack of fan attendance is a really really bad look. Now is not the time to be making money demands.

And they want revenue, not profit. So they are demanding every school lose money across the board.

Pipe dream that only OP can dream of....

This sounds nice in theory and gives everyone good feelings all around but this is actually against their own interest. These sports were eliminated because they generate no revenue, the revenue that allowed these sports to be played is basically the same revenue these players are asking for.. No business operates like this
You do realize that these institutions are supposed to be non profit organizations. Several sports were eliminated because of Title 9. Only football, basketball, and (at some schools) baseball generate revenue.

I am all for paying players.....no scholarships.....no free dorms.....no free food........etc....They want to be paid then let them pay for everything and learn how to manage money and become an adult. And yes give them 50% of the gate and concessions this year
IDGAF about the NCAA. all i care about is UM & how we can get back to winning championships. If student athletes had to pay their own tuition here you can rest assured Miami will never sniff a conference championship, let alone a natty. this all couldve been avoided if they let kids make $ out of their name & likeness long ago.

First you missed the whole point of the post....

Second....you pretty much described the last 15 years that is Miami football.

Facility improvements benefit the schools. It's a nice shiny object they use to get kids in where they can churn em and burn em. Once they are gone the kid has zero benefit from it while the school continues to use it to recruit.

Want to give something back? Give every P5 graduate a lump sum upon graduation to help start a business or to use as a down payment to buy a home for themselves and their family.
Ita obvious that the facilities are for current athletes, just like most students don’t go back to use the schools library After they graduate. They don’t just benefit the school, the players benefit too while they are there. The point is a lot of money is being put back into the program.
And I ’m sure thats where most graduates will spend their payment too, homes and entrepreneurial endeavors.
