Outside The Lines Report

i live in mobile,al. been here for over twenty yrs and im white. i found there is more reverse raceism here then anywhere. i came from new orleans and it aint like that there. i no im nit gonna sit around and whine about. it cause i have to keep goin to feed the fam no wat i mean.

Please inform me what Reverse Racism is? Because anyone who actually thinks this is a thing has no credibility in my book.

Anyone who thinks it doesn't exist is being just as close-minded.

Society cannot harmonize in a world full of double standards. You can't have your cake and eat it too. I could go into a full detailed lista and conversation of what i have encountered over the years but i would prefer to keep this a sports site and not a political one.

Given that racism is a social power structure and only those in power can technically oppress. It is impossible for someone from a "minority" group to engage in racism.

Discrimination, prejudices, stereotypes.....that is a whole other argument as any and all can engage in discriminatory acts and hold biases or stereotypes of others.

All these terms have very different meanings yet we use them interchangeably and incorrectly in our society...but hey what do I know

Not entirely, but i get your point. There are many definitions to racism and many do not include any reference to social structure or oppression. That's just splitting hairs though.

i think the term is called reverse discrimination. for ur information ive been passed up for jobs because i wasnt black or mexican, but i dont sit around and whine about it. its just as bad . u can walk down my street without being lookd at funny or being profiled . but in mobile white people cant walk around in a black nieghborhood without being robbed or arrested thinkin im there to buy drugs when im just visiting a friend or bringing a co worker home. it goes both ways down here.

Wouldn't that just be racism then. Reverse Racism would be free of prejudice. Acceptance. You can't call it double standards either African Americans are still fighting against policies that where put in place where being a racist was a status symbol. Being called a ******* isn't making you sleep any less at night.

It would just be called that, but since the word "racism" has been designated more for the minority community, that is how it is viewed. So the reverse racism term has been born from that perception (right or wrong) when the racism has an opposite effect.

We are all fighting policies that are unjust. We can't change the past, only work toward improving the future. The people of today did not commit those acts, so they shouldn't be punished for them unless they continue to preach those ideals.

If you are referring to the N word, then no, it doesn't make me sleep any less at night. But it also shouldn't make many young African-Americans sleep less either since they glorify the word in music and in their day-to-day vocabulary. If you want the word to go away, stop using it. That's one of many double standards. For any changes to take place in a broken society (or family, country, etc) everyone needs to clean up their own house first before pointing fingers at other's houses.

The word racism is not designated only for minority. The only people pushing the term Reverse Racism are the same people who don't recognize that is still exist.

We are not all fight policies that are unjust. If you ever seen the difference in Schools and Communities you can't tell me it's because african americans are too lazy to make a difference, Its policies that were put in place years ago affecting our communities today.

I was not referring to the N word because you aren't black I'm taking about Kra-cker the site just censored the real word. If you can't tell the difference between a white person saying the N word and a black person. The word was created by white people as derogatory term for african american, Another thing is you can assume all black people use the word just because some do, some people see it as chance to reclaim the word from how it was used before. There is no Double Standard. Lets talk about the War on Drugs, Police brutality, etc.. Not saying white people don't experience it but lets be real If I was walking down the street and you where walking down the street who would get profiled first.

That depends. If you were walking down the street in a white neighborhood, you would. But if i was walking down the street in a black neighborhood, i would. Do you think i would be any safer walking through Liberty City than you would walking through the small towns of Bama or Mississippi? Let's be real here.

As for the comment about reverse racism.....i use the term but also recognize that racism still exists, so it's not a simple and valid statement. And there are MANY differences in schools and communities that are not due to policies put in place years ago. I have someone close to me who was a teacher in an inner city and now is a teacher in a more rural area about 15 minutes away.....and it's night and day. I could tell you stories that would make you sick. This is NOT policy driven. The area has changed over the last 20-30 years to be a largely minority community (not only African-American). What it has turned into scares a lot of people, minorities included. Fear breeds racism.

Ok, let's talk about war on drugs and crime rates. What's the numbers on those? I get it, poverty breeds crime. You see it in poor white areas as well. But why does it seem to be so accepted in today's minority culture? How many high school recruits have criminal records and poor test scores but we continue to put them on pedestals because they can run fast or jump high? Willie Williams? The only way conservative America will begin to change their views on the world, including racism, is when cultural stereotypes begin to change. The more negative cultural stereotypes are upheld or even glorified, the longer the divide amongst cultures will remain.

Too many think racism is a simple thing that can be fixed with a few laws and new policies. Absolutely not. Forced policy usually breeds resentment (just look at taxes and medical insurance). It takes compromise, understanding and acceptance by all races about all topics....and even then, you will have outliers on both sides. I was much more opened-minded and hopeful as a young kid when i myself listened to rap music, wore cross color baggy clothing, and idolized black athletes than i am today after years of seeing the issue firsthand and dealing with real life issues like drugs, violence and reverse inequality in the neighborhoods i call home. I still idolize certain black athletes and embrace my black friends and treat them with the same respect i do the rest of my friends. But i can honestly say i am scared ****less to walk down the street of certain inner cities and will not go out at night in certain areas of my own neighborhood because i am white and just looking out for the safety of myself and my family. Label that as you may, that's just me being real.

There's no shame in having something to be worked up over especially 400 years of overt murder and oppression + the covert type that still continues. Please tell a better reason to be worked up over? It doesn't help to have "specialists" minimizing and providing a peachy narrative to something so serious and impactful to the players that play for the team they root for. Tad u are not the embodiment of Canefandom and once again, diversity doesn't constitute equality or an end to racist views and actions covert and overt. U are making it about the entire fanbase when no one has even said that. It's not even true that the entire fanbases of southern schools are entirely racist...so please stop the victim role. PSUCane, u keep talking about what u could do, but u won't do it because u can't think of any lies that won't be laughed at here. Practice what u preach, if we are to understand each other, then get to explaining. U spending time explaining my experience to me, how I should feel about it, and detailing ways that black people can make their experience better, so what's your experience with racial inequality? I look forward to providing the narrative for it as well lol!

You not getting it. The Term Reverse Racism itself is an Oxymoron its not a thing.
I wasn't talking about people living in the areas when talking about the difference of me and you walking in a neighborhood. I was talking about institutional racism by police. You talk about fearing for your life if you went to the inner city, how many times do you do that now look at it in an african american's perspective who may have to fear for our life where ever we go.

Also when I'm talking about policies I'm talking Jim Crow laws which still impact african americans today. Crime rates, Schools are still affected by this the term White school or Black school stem from segregation which although is no longer legal but still divides many communities. Black schools get less help and if you grew up and went to school in the state of Florida you should know since we have one of the worst education systems in the nation.

I don't think adding new policies "fix" racism in this country, but I do believe that we have to see new polices that take away the old ones. We live in a country the prides itself in equal opportunity but in reality we don't live that way. Sure anyone can live the american dream but at the end of the day there is a thing called white privilege.

This discussion on race issues in our society reminds me: **** Al Golden.

I just watched the OTL piece and it was trully eye opening that this ESPN expose was so candide about the darling of the $EC.

Here is an article mentioned in the ESPN OTL piece.
http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/12241989/top-alabama-recruit-lester-cotton-carries-hope-central-high-school

An the fact that BAMA has a statue built to commemorate Gov George Wallace standing in the doorway to block the intergration of the University by preventing the first black students from enrolling at BAMA. I wonder if the infamous memorial of " Stand in the school house door" is part of a recruits official visit tour of the BAMÀ campus.

The fact of the matter is that black athletes would rather look at a George Wallace memorial than play paddycake under Al Golden.

Fire Al Golden.

What empirical evidence do you have for your positions? or is this simply your OPINION. As I have stated, look at the contemporary research into these issues. You are misinformed in many ways

All white people are racist. There is not one white person alive who shouldn't be living in constant shame and pennance. It makes me sick to my stomach to know that white people are walking around not thinking black people are the superior race! There are no way people that are white pigmented can be discriminated against racially. In the mid 90s when my hometown (sanford florida) was the gang violence capitol of the US I willingly GAVE my wallet to the homies. It was for all the past racist blood that must be flowing through my white veins.

Wanna see racism? Ask most Hispanics about their opinions of blacks....but that can't be racism because Hispanics are a minority right?

The bagmen don't tell these kids that BS. They just take the money and run. Lol at thinking morals and ethics mean anything in the SEC lol

The exact opposite has been said regarding your inaccurate summary of what's actually been posted. It has also been clearly stated that the ideology of race, racism and white supremacy while being started by European whites, has also infected every group of people Hispanics and black people included. Please post when U have an original idea or something to contribute. The, "I ain't the only one or they are more racist than me" approach is old, sad, and counterproductive.

Who invited the Black Panthers to the board?

Who invited the KKK to the board? Since we always have to label and categorize people using extremes. But I'm not surprised because it's the same swag that cultivated the creation of race in the first place. But then dudes want to act like they or things have changed but in their own words and actions we see this same need to categorize and find separation. Keep proving that it's still in you with these comments, it permeates your entire being because you've never healed or sought treatment for the narcissism based psychosis. 400 years a rapist, murderer, liar, human trafficker, family structure destroyer, education hoarder, human breeder etc.. with zero therapy to combat the learned neurotic damage done. That's the pathology that needs to addressed if race relations are to mended. Let's begin at the root, not the leaves that have dried and fallen to the ground.

Ironic the I'm watching The U Part I and the truth of the matter is that the U was the blackest team ever. EVER. They stormed the stage of college football as ghetto as you could be but here we have Harriet trying to shame us because, as a fan base, we somehow are equivalent to the worst white racists out there. I question how long Harriet has been a fan or how strong his/her memories actually are.

I would also argue that what is most ironic is that while I rarely agree with those that want to be 'thug U' - it is precisely what Al Golden doesn't get, won't allow, and why we may never have success under his white washed boring *** brand of football. Maybe one day we'll get back to our origins but certainly not with him.

I did...Black P Stone Nation...Wuz gud???

Crazy4theCanes, u are so confused lol! Analyze your first paragraph and then the theme of your 2nd paragraph, one explains the other. The identity crisis your post just highlighted and exposed is THE very reason we are where we are as a football program. There isn't a big difference between covert and overt racism to me. In many ways overt is functionally worse than overt, so there's no cookies to be handed out for either, that's my point and it's very simple. All that other stuff yall whining about and adding to the equation is personal issues, keep it that way please.
