OTH Podcast: DJ and Romberg calling out our leaders

In addition to no spring break, these young men should be forced to abstain from pre-marital carnal relationships. This should include, but not limited to, fornication, fellatio, digital stimulation of genitalia and the watching and filming of movies showing females in various stages of undress....I think the upperclassmen need to step up and display leadership in this endeavor...for instance, during their spring break, lead by example and show the wonders of performing extra sets of squats, deadlifts and hang-cleans over their carnal desires. Educate on them on what is meant by doing snatches and limit interaction to family members to WhatsApp application.

There is also a long list of former great players who thought they could be coaches, but were awful at it precisely because they didn't know WHY they were great players so they just ended up giving pointless advice. Just because you worked out, studied, practiced, and got your reps in didn't automatically make that the reason why you ended up having success. "We didn't ever stop working! We never took a day off and that's why we won championships!" is just eye-roll inducing.

You can't make the logical leap that some other kid who isn't as good as you must not be doing everything they need to which is why they aren't as good of a player. They could be doing MORE than you've ever done, but in the end it just doesn't matter. You can't just take anybody off the street, put them into an extreme workout regimen, teach them everything there is to know about football and all of a sudden they're an All-American.

I've also read multiple comments in this thread along the lines of "Once they start winning championships, maybe then they can take spring break off since they've proven it already." If the logical line of thinking is that they started winning championships BECAUSE they didn't take spring break off, aren't you basically saying that they're allowed to stop winning championships since that's apparently what would happen? Honestly, this whole thread is just clichéd BS.

I am not one of the people who thinks a great player makes a great coach. To me they should work their way up that career just like anybody else. Certainly they will get opportunities to move up faster than normal ones do.

With that said, I also think they can tell you what they did to accomplish things. You have someone who excelled in the field you are in, it can be foolish to turn that down and just dismiss what they are saying. The fan base and culture around this kids has already dismissed the value of education and a degree which a vast majority of the players will use to make a living rather than football. Don't further the stupidity by dismissing advice from people who excelled and actually made it to the NFL.

It all depends on what you want to accomplish. The kids on the team have probably been use to being the best in their little league, middle school, and high schools. So many just got by on athleticism. Now that group is concentrated down more so you are no longer the best player on the field or even your position. If you want to just be the best that was playing at your highschool at the time then fine, don't listen but understand that is where you are going to stop. Of course you will still have some that are the best on the team and a lot of times in games the best on the field. Again, if you want to be the best on your college team at a certain time period then I guess you can not put in the extra work to be even better. Though just don't expect to make it or stay in the NFL. Also don't expect to win against lesser tallent who work as a team rather than individuals.

Now I understand they put in a ton of work. They put in a ton of work to know how to play the game and to be in great shape. More work than the majority of people. They aren't playing against the majority of people though and are not competing to win games, championships, make it to the NFL against the majority of people. In all those cases there are people out there working harder than you. Some more talented, some less talented. If you want to beat them out then you need to make sure to outwork them, and also to have your team more together than their team is. That way you can win and you can show off more of your talent.

Got to say it is sad in this day and age that if our QBs and WRs were not working out together beyond the limited practice that is allowed. There are so many examples of past and current greats openly talking about how much they work out beyond the practices with their respective groups. Especially as practice becomes more and more regulated out.

Of course players should be trying to get better on their own time, but it's a super stretch to act like because players go home to see their families during a week break that they don't want to win more than the keyboard warriors do in this thread.

So you can’t do that the other 360 days out of the year? It’s THESE 5 days that they spent with family that is causing them to lose?
LMAO man you cant take everything literal, for example, I played college ball also and the summers I chose to stay and workout with the team my results were much better than the summers I trained back at home and the workouts were the same. Team chemistry isnt built overnight...

There was a time when allowing players to drink water during practice was considered a sign of weakness.

It's not at all ridiculous that a kid would want to go home.

But I don't care about that. I want savages who don't know anything but a love of winning. It's preferable that they be made in a lab somewhere, but if they have to have mothers, we can have a 15 minute visiting period on the 4th of July. Maybe their moms could just come to the weight room and watch them through a window, that would be better. Or they can have a chat while the kid's in an ice bath.

Whatever. You want me to believe that crap about how much you want to win championships? Show me.

LOL you sound like mouth breathing loser. Your ****** should be out there running with them.

Yet here you are and not in the NBA. You didn't work hard enough

this is all so ridiculous lol. how is OTH doing btw? i can't believe that **** is still functioning

I think many of us "old school" fans just want to see a change in mentality. We tried it "their" way and it got us nowhere. Lets try something else. This team has UF coming up game 1, not FAMU. Yes, its 5 months away but I want this team eating, sleeping, breathing in preparation for that game. I want them addicted to this game.

We saw how this team came out flat last year against an LSU team that just looked to want it more then we did. UF will come out that same way. I know Spring break has nothing to do with that but dammit man I want these kids to understand that they were a joke just 90 days ago and they have a chance to erase all that this year. Don't take it for granted or waste one second of time .

That's kinda the point though isn't it? The team isn't playing at a top level and hasn't for years. And before you say that we haven't seen this team play yet, that's not how it works. You don't take a vacation because you may be good in the future...you get to be good in the future because you didn't take a vacation. Because you worked your *** off. All the time.

I get that they're kids and want to party, but life is about choices. Which do you want more, to party or to win?

If you're a winner, you do every single thing you can to win, and I don't see that from these guys.
Did you not read the first half? lmao some people might need a break from Miami as a whole. Also idgaf what anyone says 1 week is NOT going to make a difference especially when you haven’t practiced with your new coaches yet. I’d be upset if after the spring session they took a vacation.. but before your spring practices start? who gives af.

If you can sit there with a straight face and tell me that the reason we don’t win a national championship this year is because SOME players decided to take spring break off... then you need a straight jacket because you’re living in fantasyland

These kids aren’t f’ing slaves you lunatic.. holy **** this is the mentality that is destroying this country 😂

We all love the '01 oldheads and those guys can opine on anything and it should be viewed as having the utmost gravitas in our little world of Canes Football discourse......but also let's not believe that team wasn't out enjoying life A LOT too. That o-line practically lived in The Tavern and Sandbar. You could hit up the Vern on a weeknight when there were 8 people in the place and at least one of them would be Shockey or Sherko.

I'ts not about working out, its about building comradery and trust with your teammates. The teams that sacrifice the most get the best results, its simple for those who played sports at a high level.

Lol, sure thing Mr High Level Athlete.

It's 5 ******* days, those 5 days aren't making any difference in the outcome of the 2019 season.

Bruh THANK YOU! Like holy crap, people just love complaining about pointless stuff on here.. 5 days of working out or “building comraderie” or whatever the **** they think they should be doing WONT make or break a team when those 5 days are before the Spring practices even start! It’s laughable tbh

I dunno meng, I get rather cranky when I go a week without Pilates.
Almost scratched some chick's eye out once during a WNBA game
