OTH Podcast: DJ and Romberg calling out our leaders

I’m not sure why you guys keep talking about how hard those teams worked back then. That was not the basis of the thread. DJ and Romberg basically called out the kids that wanted to take the few days off that they have to travel home to see their families. I think it’s ridiculous to criticize Brian Hightower for wanting to take a few days off to fly home to California to spend some time with his mother.

It's not at all ridiculous that a kid would want to go home.

But I don't care about that. I want savages who don't know anything but a love of winning. It's preferable that they be made in a lab somewhere, but if they have to have mothers, we can have a 15 minute visiting period on the 4th of July. Maybe their moms could just come to the weight room and watch them through a window, that would be better. Or they can have a chat while the kid's in an ice bath.

Whatever. You want me to believe that crap about how much you want to win championships? Show me.

Fucccing bytches takes time and energy better spent on practice. No bytches until the NFL.

Listen to the podcast. How much training are you really doing in the DR or Mexico? Some of our best players went outside the country. DJ even explained, you want to be physically ready for that first practice or you’re going to be struggling. In addition, you just went 7-6, there has to be some form of accountability from our leaders. It is said, championships are won in Spring, and you want your team unified busting their ***. Not divided. In other words, you have to be obsessed with winning and he feels we aren’t there yet.

3-4 days out of a
Maybe Clemson players have much more talent than our players and can take a break. Based on our record the past 16 years, maybe our players should make themselves available for coaching and working out the maximum amount of days allowed by ncaa regulations.

Why do you think they aren't doing this? It was spring break - many of the coaches took much needed vacations too.

This thread is ridiculous.

Lol what the ****...

I’m listening to OTH Podcast, DJ and Romberg are calling out our “leaders” on this team for allowing players to travel (leave Miami) during Spring Break. They preach that in their day, the team leaders didn’t allow anyone to leave for Spring Break because they had to work to prepare for Spring Training. They worked and partied at night during Spring Break.

DJ feels this team doesn’t want it bad enough to win. Does he have a point? Are these boys soft?
It's as simple as this. Go watch the games with the old school guys and then watch the current players, then tell me who is right and who is wrong, our old school canes would ***** slap these new boys and every one of you know it. yes, these new players are soft, and it's not open for discussion.

Bro, players from past teams disowned their families and worked out 24/7 365.

As a matter of fact, they're still practicing

I don't think it is just about working out and keeping in shape. Noticed many people saying they can do that elsewhere. Which is true. Also not just about getting reps in. Think it is more about getting reps in with your teammates so you know what each other is going to do and where they might need help. Like what was brought up that last year the QBs were not practicing with the WRs outside of practice. Yeah you can stay in shape and get reps, but if you don't understand what each other is going to do then you put yourself at a disadvantage of what you could possibly be. You are showing up basically ready for a pickup game while other teams have put in work to be organized.

It is probably also a good idea to listen to people who have accomplished what you have dreamed of and are telling you how to do it. Doubt things have changed that much in what it takes to win games, championships, get drafted, stay in the NFL, be successful in the NFL.

Find it funny so many of you say you want Ed Reed here as a coach. "How could kids say no to him?" Blah blah blah. Yet if he was to chime in and say the stuff these other players are saying you all would be "old head don't know nothing". There is a long list of hall of fame players who can talk about how they had to give up all the fun stuff to set themselves apart. I know Shannon Sharpe talks about it. Probably Jerry Rice would talk about it as well.

Hunt Stevenson: The truth? You don't want the truth. You want to hear that Miami is better than everybody else. Everybody else has been kicking our butts, that ain't luck. There's your truth. Sure, the great old Miami do-or-die spirit. Yeah, it's alive. But the Bama's and Clemson's got it. I tell you, we'd better get it back. We'd better get it back **** fast. Instead, we're strutting around telling ourselves how great we use to be. I guess if I was really a leader, I would've told you this months ago. Instead, I was telling you the greatest team of all time stories. I put myself in front of the team and I' m really sorry. I swear to you, man, I' m really sorry.

They sound ridiculous, who says the ones that left for spring break didn’t workout? Dudes trying to relive their glory days by ****ting on current players. SHUT THE FVCK UP
I'ts not about working out, its about building comradery and trust with your teammates. The teams that sacrifice the most get the best results, its simple for those who played sports at a high level.

There is also a long list of former great players who thought they could be coaches, but were awful at it precisely because they didn't know WHY they were great players so they just ended up giving pointless advice. Just because you worked out, studied, practiced, and got your reps in didn't automatically make that the reason why you ended up having success. "We didn't ever stop working! We never took a day off and that's why we won championships!" is just eye-roll inducing.

You can't make the logical leap that some other kid who isn't as good as you must not be doing everything they need to which is why they aren't as good of a player. They could be doing MORE than you've ever done, but in the end it just doesn't matter. You can't just take anybody off the street, put them into an extreme workout regimen, teach them everything there is to know about football and all of a sudden they're an All-American.

I've also read multiple comments in this thread along the lines of "Once they start winning championships, maybe then they can take spring break off since they've proven it already." If the logical line of thinking is that they started winning championships BECAUSE they didn't take spring break off, aren't you basically saying that they're allowed to stop winning championships since that's apparently what would happen? Honestly, this whole thread is just clichéd BS.

Fact is the old heads are correct. I was on campus 98-02 and their mantra was that no other team was going to outwork them. Those dudes where always practicing with each other, even during winter, spring, and summer breaks. And the results speak for themselves.
This new crop as a whole does not have the same leadership and drive to win a National Championship. I think they would be thrilled with another Coastal title.

So you can’t do that the other 360 days out of the year? It’s THESE 5 days that they spent with family that is causing them to lose?

Easy to say that practices were harder than games when you're practicing against double digit future NFL Pro Bowlers all week. I think people in this thread are VASTLY underestimating what talent means and why the solution isn't to just work out every waking second you're alive as if that's the real reason anybody wins anything.
I'm not saying it at all because of the people who were involved in the program. I'm saying it because of the work ethic we had. And this isnt at all just the time frame that yall are speaking on. That work ethic was installed in the 80s at this program. That work ethic was practiced whether you were a future hall of Famer or a walk on who never sniffed a down of football on the college football let alone NFL. Its important that the team as a whole shares in that. Regardless I'm sorry to have chimed in. You guys are all entitled to your own opinions. Be easy

You haven’t heard? Spending time with your family is a crime and means you aren’t working hard.... lol

In addition to no spring break, these young men should be forced to abstain from pre-marital carnal relationships. This should include, but not limited to, fornication, fellatio, digital stimulation of genitalia and the watching and filming of movies showing females in various stages of undress....I think the upperclassmen need to step up and display leadership in this endeavor...for instance, during their spring break, lead by example and show the wonders of performing extra sets of squats, deadlifts and hang-cleans over their carnal desires. Educate on them on what is meant by doing snatches and limit interaction to family members to WhatsApp application.

Brother you know that's not what Brett really means. He used a bad example but his point is the work ethic and buying in. What we did with our down time is irrelevant. But that's not his real issue. Its accountability & work ethic. All that being said we ARE improving dramatically in that sense. As u know our weekend workouts just the numbers alone and the people who are showing they are buying in and improving accountability by simply showing up and putting in that work with their brothers is vital. Haven't seen it here in a long time. But theres still plenty of room for improvement.
