OTH Podcast: DJ and Romberg calling out our leaders

Lol, sure thing Mr High Level Athlete.

It's 5 ******* days, those 5 days aren't making any difference in the outcome of the 2019 season.
Hahaha you obviously never played on a championship team so you cant relate. Lazy mofos talking bout "days off"

Neither have the current players, but I guess that's because they don't eat and sleep in the gym 24/7 and dream of routes or coverages.

I've got news for some of you... not every kid dreams of winning an NCAA championship and having their life peak at 19. Only a few of these kids are going to the NFL so for the rest, they might prefer to see their parents or take extra time to study for their upcoming test. I know that hurts your dream of trying to live vicariously through people you don't even know, but it is what it is. I can pretty much guarantee though that they're putting more effort into their life right now than either of us are.

We should probably go back to the days of not drinking water during practices because it makes you tough as NaiLz amirite? I mean, we might as well because if you want to go back home during a week off to see you're family, you're a loser according to this dude, who is obviously Tom Brady.

Bruh sometimes you need to get away and do a mental reset, so as long as no one on the starting roster plays like a ***** then idc lol

Did the 300 Spartans go on Spring Break - or line up and slaughter 25,000 Persians?

Did the bomber crews go on Spring Break or stick around to atomic bomb the Germans at Hirosaki and Nagashima?

Did Tiny Tim go on Spring Break - or tiptoe through the tulips?

I haven't seen anyone who burns for something - waste time on a Spring Break!

Because Spring Break is for candy asses!

Pretty sure nobody works harder than the military academies. Can't tell you when they last one a national title. Talent might play a little bit of a role in winning titles too.

Pretty sure Army was 11-2 this year and ranked 19th. So you’re saying there’s a chance. Are they more talented than us? The fact is they are limited by the height and weight standards as well as academics and have to be appointed there. When they did win titles, the size of player was different than the road graders of today. You compare apples to oranges.

Semper Canes!!!

I’m listening to OTH Podcast, DJ and Romberg are calling out our “leaders” on this team for allowing players to travel (leave Miami) during Spring Break. They preach that in their day, the team leaders didn’t allow anyone to leave for Spring Break because they had to work to prepare for Spring Training. They worked and partied at night during Spring Break.

DJ feels this team doesn’t want it bad enough to win. Does he have a point? Are these boys soft?

They’re lying...I know plenty of dudes that went home during spring break

I'm not saying it at all because of the people who were involved in the program. I'm saying it because of the work ethic we had. And this isnt at all just the time frame that yall are speaking on. That work ethic was installed in the 80s at this program. That work ethic was practiced whether you were a future hall of Famer or a walk on who never sniffed a down of football on the college football let alone NFL. Its important that the team as a whole shares in that. Regardless I'm sorry to have chimed in. You guys are all entitled to your own opinions. Be easy

I read a story that the first time Dennis Erickson was ever on the UM campus(which had to be right around February of 89 after Jimmy left for Dallas) that as he walked near Greentree, he couldn't believe that there were so many players working out, or doing drills of some sort at that time of year. It was really eye-opening to him, the commitment of these guys.

yeah, facilities are vital, it's an arms race, but the programs DNA has to be about the work ethic, how important football is, etc.

When you had guys like Bernard Clark win the 88 Orange Bowl defensive player of the game, and then not even really start the next season, it showed you what the program was all about that era.

Lol.

I haven’t read all the pages, but it’s true, kids r different than yesteryear, for sure. However, top programs?? Their kids r grinding!

We literally have had kids who were more interested in internet tough talk and clapping in player’s faces, then grinding. How anyone continues to excuse this is beyond me.

We’re not in a position where kids can just go cruising during break time. We’ve had a **** poor grind regimen for 15 yrs. Kids started to treat The U as an automatic pass to get to the league; they weren’t upholding the tradition and we fell off b/c of it.

Say what u want about The Bamas & Clemsons of the world, but they grind and the Sr’s hold the Freshmen to the same standard....u know, how we USED to be? The problem is, what’s the standard? That needs to be rectified, 1st.

This whole thread makes me lol.

The older some of these Canes get, the harder they worked back in the day. Pretty soon they’re gonna start talking like the 1972 Dolphins.

Romberg ripping kids for going home for spring break while he’s on 790 constantly talking about how hard he’s partied in his life is pretty rich. How many straight days of drinking is ok and how many make you soft?

It’s a fine line between pushing kids to be great and starting to sound like Mercury Morris.

They were 7-6 last year. Bad coaching or not that’s unacceptable, the upperclassmen have to be leaders, but kids nowadays have other options so to them football is not life or death!!!

Right, was just pointing out their thought process not mine. They may just be taking the 1 week out of 52, we don’t know. Others stayed behind and worked. I’d like them all to do so, but I’m not their boss.

Players started going home for spring break in 2004. I blame Coker.

By leaders are they calling out football players? Or Manny and Co? Some of the kids stayed behind and worked, not all left and went back home or elsewhere. I get their point and yes, it would’ve been nice for most of them, if not all, to remain behind and work on their craft. But these are young men, not all are going to prioritize football over life especially at such a young age where if you recall, the world is your oyster. Too much other stuff going on, especially during Spring Break. I’m not advocating for nor against Romberg and DJ, or the kids. Just pointing out thought processes on both sides.
That's why you have team leaders (Players) that get the masses to follow them. If the team leaders had said, "Nobody is leaving Miami during Spring Break!!!!", the other guys thinking about leaving would stay. Some may still leave, but they would be chastised for doing so.

Leadership only needs to say, "What are you willing to sacrifice be great? To WIN?"

If they had the magic formula for success while they were in college, wouldn’t they have won 4 national championships? IJS
That's like saying Alabama should win every year. Obviously, they haven't and won't, but their culture (and recruiting) will put them in the mix every year. Further more, regardless of winning a championship, it is the expectation to do so that is the foundation of greatness.

LOL right! So people sign up to play a sport where the end goal is to win a championship but for some unknown reason our players dont have the same goal in mind. We can agree to disagree but you sound like another "internet guru" who has no real time in these scenarios so you spew garbage but guys that actually played know whats up. DIDNT TATE WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP IN HIGH SCHOOL??

Of course they did. I'll tell you one thing, past memories become distorted and more grandiose as time goes on. No doubt the old teams worked hard, but put a mic in front of any athlete and it'll be like a fish story where what was caught suddenly grows a bit. Everyone wants to believe their times were harder, tougher, and just flat out better. That's just the way it is with old timers in everything.

Some of y’all out of touch with reality my god...

Seeing family(or vacation) on a 5 day break in which they likely can’t do often is such a crime.... smfh

You have to realize most of the people talking can't even see their toes without bending over. They can't even workout once a week, let alone five to six like those they're trying to judge.

Fact, most fans are dumb as **** and out of touch with reality.
