I've been biting my tongue on this issue. But, miss me with this HBCU ****.
Like most bureaucracies, the typical HBCU is filled with nepotism, corruption and gross incompetence. And, again, like most bureaucracies, HBCU's tend to be self-serving.
They don't serve their communities. That's a big fckn lie. Spike Lee accurately touched on this in School Daze. Yes, yes, The very thought of HBCU's makes certain white liberals and some black folks feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But, these schools literally have no impact on the lives of the average black person in the street, particularly the black underclass.
Some of the worst public schools in America, schools filled with predominately black children, are within a short walk from schools like Howard.
You'd literally have to threaten the students and admins at those universities with imprisonment to get them involved in those failing schools.
I volunteered at DC public school maybe a 4 min walk from campus. I remember thinking to myself, "How in the **** is a school in the shadow of Howard University this bad, especially when the university wraps itself in kente cloth?!"
While at Howard, I also worked on campus. I saw firsthand how business is run. It was disgraceful, a glorified scam that would probably be shuttered if not for the gvt funds that prop it up.
These things weren't isolated to Howard. To this very day, I swap war stories with my relatives who went to FAMU and BCC. Same ****e, different universities.
****, I remember when the state of Florida threatened to withhold the salaries of top FAMU admins because the school had a lot of funny accounting practices.
Most people or institutions pushing"black" anything are running a hustle. The sooner people realize that, the better off they'll be.
HBCU's, not all of them, were invaluable once upon a time. But, that time has long since passed. Since high achieving black h.s students are no longer hindered by segregation, they can go where they want (typically).
As a result, HBCU's across the board have lowered the bar. However, they're not serving "their communities" by admitting a bunch of kids who should be at JUCO and saddling them debt.
But, I digress.
Deion did his bid at JSU. Now it's time to unapologetically go get his money. Trust me. The same HBCU's that people are simping for are after their paper, even if it means stealing it while working in the financial aid office. Yes, that happened at Howard, too.
