OT: Eddie Robinson Jr was right?

Yo Relly the Greek... two things come to mind with Deion. His MO is his tongue, and it's made him good money right? With a lot of people, when they put money and loyalty on a balance, money wins... and you can interchange loyalty with numerous other things like morality, honesty, etc... and money usually wins.
That's why I've led a comfortably modest life but sleep very soundly... even with my CPAP.

I’m well aware of Deion’s mouthpiece; literally one of the best in the business. I’m not mad at him making the move, b/c it’s his prerogative. What I am disappointed in is utilizing & weaponizing his church sermon upon accepting the job. In my community, religion is extremely important for the most part, & when u use phrases like “God led me here…”, “Being around MY people (repeating it)…” , “this is my calling…”, well now you’ve connected w/ this community more than just sports.

And again, it was the thumbing the noses at these other institutions, one of the same institution he’ll now be working for. That’s where the hypocrisy comes from & have rubbed many the wrong way. Just keep ur mouth shut & applaud the school for hiring u; keep it business instead of making it personal.

This is a complicated issue. Guys like @Rellyrell have put forth some very well thought out posts on this, some of which have actually changed my mind on how I viewed certain aspects of this topic. One thing I will say is this:

Deion is probably the ULTIMATE competitor. He wants to be the best and he certainly wants to prove naysayers wrong.

Many said he couldn't do what he did at JSU.

Now many are or more importantly "were" saying he isn't a "real" coach. That once he goes to the big boys, it is a different animal. As a black man, how often have we been told that? Whether it was us trying to become quarterbacks and even still trying to climb that ladder in coaching.

I am not sure if his motives at the HBCU was genuine, perhaps it wasn't. But if he continues to be a success, his stop at the HBCU will be mentioned and it will be a good thing because it could show black coaches could go there to get their opportunity and move up and prove that we can succeed just as well.

I will be watching.

Deion has been talking religious for awhile now, it didn't just start because He got a gig at an HBCU. Here's my question, why is it when Hugh Freeze all of a sudden found religion nobody questions His motives?

My friend... the more people talk in public and sell or excuse themselves for doing something, the greater the chance that they will stick their foot in their mouth and be hypocritical. As a God believer, I have an issue with people who insert "God" in many of their actions to get public approval... but you never hear them saying that God tapped on their shoulder and warned them when they did wrong.
Good topic to discuss in person.

Man, please. Hugh Freeze has been getting called out for his bull**** since he was at Ole Miss. Most people see right through his phony schtick, but Auburn doesn't care because they are desperate to beat Saban.

I agree Deion has been talking the religious stuff since his playing days. I remember when he refused to pay a guy for car repair because Jesus told him not to.

Not by many here!!!

^Very underrated point.

IMO, it’s the difference between a “calling” and a “job.”

Prime Time made it sound like it was his calling to lift up HBCUs. That’s a lifetime effort…not a job that you leave at the first offer of a big paycheck.

But then, I’m just a middle-aged white dude who has no real dog in this fight.
You don’t have to be employed at a HBCU to continue to uplift it. I’m sure some SWAC teams will be on Colorado schedule. However, as an FAMU alum I understand why people are upset. I’m personally happy for him.

Yeah I already ran through that thread, my point stands!!!

You could see it in his opening press conference and the meeting with the players. He made it mostly about
I've been biting my tongue on this issue. But, miss me with this HBCU ****.

Like most bureaucracies, the typical HBCU is filled with nepotism, corruption and gross incompetence. And, again, like most bureaucracies, HBCU's tend to be self-serving.

They don't serve their communities. That's a big fckn lie. Spike Lee accurately touched on this in School Daze. Yes, yes, The very thought of HBCU's makes certain white liberals and some black folks feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But, these schools literally have no impact on the lives of the average black person in the street, particularly the black underclass.

Some of the worst public schools in America, schools filled with predominately black children, are within a short walk from schools like Howard.

You'd literally have to threaten the students and admins at those universities with imprisonment to get them involved in those failing schools.

I volunteered at DC public school maybe a 4 min walk from campus. I remember thinking to myself, "How in the **** is a school in the shadow of Howard University this bad, especially when the university wraps itself in kente cloth?!"

While at Howard, I also worked on campus. I saw firsthand how business is run. It was disgraceful, a glorified scam that would probably be shuttered if not for the gvt funds that prop it up.

These things weren't isolated to Howard. To this very day, I swap war stories with my relatives who went to FAMU and BCC. Same ****e, different universities.

****, I remember when the state of Florida threatened to withhold the salaries of top FAMU admins because the school had a lot of funny accounting practices.

Most people or institutions pushing"black" anything are running a hustle. The sooner people realize that, the better off they'll be.

HBCU's, not all of them, were invaluable once upon a time. But, that time has long since passed. Since high achieving black h.s students are no longer hindered by segregation, they can go where they want (typically).

As a result, HBCU's across the board have lowered the bar. However, they're not serving "their communities" by admitting a bunch of kids who should be at JUCO and saddling them debt.

But, I digress.

Deion did his bid at JSU. Now it's time to unapologetically go get his money. Trust me. The same HBCU's that people are simping for are after their paper, even if it means stealing it while working in the financial aid office. Yes, that happened at Howard, too.
Did you attend a HBCU?

I don't blame em' either, they broke into His Son's car a few weeks ago, as well as breaking into His office during a game when He first got there. Funny because the first thing He mentioned about Boulder at His press conference is it's crime free LOL.

Wow. I did not know that.

Crazy stuff. Jackson, MS is a mess. Even elected officials in Detroit think Jackson, Mississippi is run by incompetent criminals. lol

The reason we have HBCUs in the first place, is the lack of opportunity given to black folks to get a college education, so if the P5 schools start mining HBCUs for coaching talent, then that is a big win. Most of our coaches would love to coach in the “big time”, if we’re given the opportunity. How many head coaches of a HBCU have had the opportunity to leave and lead a P5 program? It’s a VERY short list. This is not normal! I look at Deion’s time at JSU as all positive. He put a light on football programs that had been long operating in the dark. What gets lost in all the Deion talk is that there are some good coaches and a few pieces of NFL talent there…. but it had to take a superstar to kick that wall down for coaches. For that reason, I’m thankful for Deion’s time at JSU.
Deion is an anomaly; he leveraged his notoriety and played the system while bringing attention to Jackson State. Now he's taking his show on the road and it will be interesting to see how his staff will adjust to higher levels of competition.

True. They’ll be fine if they get some players in there. The difference is when he got to JSU, the talent was on an equal footing. They were able to quickly get tge talent advantage. The issue at CU is that he’s gonna be at a talent disadvantage. It’s gonna take a little longer to get on an even playing field with the Oregon’s and USCw, out west. Gonna be interesting to see.

All that uplifting HBCU sound good and all. I’ll take 6 mill a yr over 300k a yr any day. That man got them in the championship. New facilities big time recruits he did a lot in 3 yrs then most have done in 10 yrs coaching there.
