OT: Eddie Robinson Jr was right?

Never believed what exactly? Prime did nothing but elevate the profile and win..

You put a contract in front of him for a HBCU and a P5 school, you gonna go with he chooses the HCBU?

Again, not knocking him. There is a stepping stone to get to any point in life. I just never bought what he was selling about HBCUs.

It was always a long con. He used that excuse as a sales pitch to help bring kids to JSU. He was never gonna spend his entire career there. That was evident when he tried to get the FSU job years ago.

Idk why this is an issue. People work angles all the time to sell and advance their careers. I’m 100% sure that if you ask all the parties involved, they would be glad it happened, and say it elevated everyone.

Did any of yall truly believe prime was gonna stay at a hbcu his entire career?

I hope not because that isnt very smart.

Maybe hold people in important positions accountable for their lies first.
Hey, I’m all about holding people in important positions accountable.

All I’m saying is the “everyone lies” schtick is kinda dumb. And so is blaming people for thinking maybe Deion was a man of his word.

Don’t get me wrong. It was obvious Deion was out for himself from the start. But that doesn’t mean that (a) we should just shrug it off as Deion being Deion, or (b) we should scoff at those who hoped he would do what he said he would. Dude’s a jerk and should be called out as one.

Our coach sells also.. It comes with the job, they have to sell **** to these kids.. He is literally paid to do that lol

What "word"? When did Deion say that He was going to be at JSU in perpetuity? I mean ****, there were public reports of Deion calling assistants & recruits telling them to come join Him at CU, it was one the worst kept secrets in sports. And I watched His team yesterday, they didn't play like a team that was down in the dumps because their coach was leaving, unlike Cristobal's team at Oregon last year.

I’m iffy on this topic @DHucks

I nvr attended a HBCU, but as a Greek, I’ve been to plenty of HBCU campuses. I know the history of HBCU & what they mean to our community, but also its underrated illustrious history to sports.

Here’s y I’m iffy:

It’s a person’s job to move up the ladder. If Deion was at any other FCS level school, built them up, brought notoriety to their program, & then moved to a better financial opportunity, there would be no fuss. It would be a “way to go, Coach Prime.” For that, I have no issues.

On the other side, Deion does so much got **** talking; &, so for him to gas up HBCU’s & point his finger at other institutions along w/ the young men for choosing those institutions over HBCU’s, JUST to go to one of these same institutions he was critical of, well now he looks like a hypocrite. In essence, what he did was not altruistic vs. a ploy to bring notoriety to himself.

That’s where I have a problem. If Sanders would’ve accepted a HBCU job as HC, talked about its history, his pride in being able to carry on its legacy, etc. then made a jump, I don’t think the fall out or call outs would be that great. It’s the finger pointing, convincing of young men to come there vs. a P5 b/c of him & what he’s trying to re-establish at the HBCU level, then leave…that’s the sour taste.

Great post @Rellyrell That's fair. This isn't necessarily directed towards you, more so to those with an issue with Prime's exit to a P5 program.

My only issue with the rational of, since he recruited kids "away" from P5s and to the HBCUs......then he turned around and left for the P5 himself.......my question to those with that thought process is....what did JSU and the HBCU schools do for Prime given all the national exposure? (JSU was on ESPN College GameDay for crying out loud....that NEVER happens btw).... Did JSU double or triple his salary?...and not AFTER he starts interviewing for other jobs, but as a show of appreciation perhaps during the season for what Prime has brought to the University and HBCU platform.

Someone at JSU was DEFINITELY cashing checks and getting bonuses etc...I'm sure Prime got some due to kickers in his contract but there was some serious $$$ made by Primes tenure.....how much $$$ was offered to Prime in an effort to keep it rolling??

Ur point is why I’m iffy. I don’t think anyone has a problem w/ him leaving, it’s the time frame. Many w/in the HBCU community feel betrayed b/c of his pre - hire antics. It’s like my cousin just texted me, who’s a ‘89 graduate of Southern U: I understand a man gotta eat & get his bread when offered, but don’t sell this pipe dream to kids who had offers at major schools, stating investing in the HBCU community when ur goal was to get the next gig as soon as available.

I kinda likened it to a preacher telling its members u’re going to **** if u commit adultery, but then they themselves commit adultery, & then blame it on the weakness of the flesh. Deion does a whole lotta preaching & he’s convincing, great gift of gab; all I’m saying is he didn’t need to add the extras when he accepted the job if his intent was not this professed “calling.”

In most cases I would agree with you but not this one. HE is the one that said God called him to build/change not just JSU but HBCU’s as a whole. HE prematurely aborted that message. I knew he would leave sooner than later but not like this.

He didn’t prematurely aborted it. He did it but the other schools have to try to. Prime can’t recruit for all the HBCUs either. He’s only coach of one team. He brought more attention to HBCUs for this era, but the other schools have to do their jobs too. They have to coach, recruit, evaluate, and develop better too. There are talented kids dying to go to HBCUs but the schools ignore many of them.

I don't know if you caught his opening press conference, but Deion did a lot of preaching and invoked the Lord and his calling when asked why he chose to take the job at Colorado. It sounded contrived, but a lot of people eat that stuff up.

Was watching the video of him telling the team he was leaving and something stuck out what he said about players hopping in the portal because he’s leaving. Basically he said grass ain’t greener on the other side and a lot of you guys will get lost in the portal. Don’t think b/c you played here you will get picked up. I’m saying to myself half or over half these kids here because they brought into your vision and now you like I’m out. Then basically all but saying I’m not taking any of y’all but my sons and Travis Hunter.

I respect him for picking up the torch and moving it forward but **** if he ain’t ***** over alot of kids that could of went P5 but went to JSU to put on for the culture.

He didn’t ***** over anyone. Most of the roster a guys who didn’t do well at p5’s or fbs programs. JSU was their 2nd and only chance. James Houston was a bust at UF after playing at JSU he made the nfl and balled out for Detroit

And that's what Eddie was saying when he said Sanders wasn't SWAC. Sanders didn't like being called out and exposed like that by how he responded to it.

I thought about all this last night, but it wasn't until Carter mentioned it to me that I realized how far that message got with black youth. Carter was literally peeved by the whole thing more than I thought he would be. And that's where my concern really lies with this, are the kids.

What's the message being sent to the young men now? Young men got crossed up pretty good. As grown men, most us knew, some were hoping it wasn't what we were thinking.

I see these young men going back to what it was before, big university. If Sanders didn't stick around, why should I even entertain HBCU?

End of the day, he did his thing at Jackson and it was dope, hopefully somebody can come in and continue what he started.

Who were the young men that got crossed up? Outside of a couple of recruits most of Prime’s 4 or 5 ⭐️ were dudes who flames out. He gave those kids a 2nd chance and a player like James Houston benefited from it. I would liked to see him stay longer but he did his thing at the time there. However, he couldn’t do everything by himself all the other schools got to carry their weight, including Eddie Robinson. And that “I’m SWAC” nonsense is just sour grapes after getting whooped.

Oh the SWAC commissioner said the entire conference made more money this year. I think part of that is attributed to Prime.

Right; & it’s disingenuous. Like u don’t have to go that far on things.

What would you say if Mario took the Bama job if Saban announced his retirement given all the **** he said about this “U” means something?

Deion spent the whole week securing staff, making his move, and accepted the Colorado University job but his message to JSU players is:

"Don't jump into the portal," Sanders told his team, "whether it is 11 or 22, we are going to Atlanta to kick some butt. I would hate for you to be at home looking at us on TV doing our thing.”

He truly is ready for a P5 job.
