OT - Breaking Bad

I wanted Jesse killed off. It was like they were desperate to give him depth … and he wasn’t up to it or the writing.

Narcos is good. But it seems cocaine/heroin distribution is the easiest project to get greenlit.

Ozark has my attention in a good way.

Just came back to edit my post with Ozark.

Oh just wait until you get to the last season. Show goes completely balls out that season especially the last few episodes. Hopefully you haven't read or seen any spoilers because it'll nail you right in the gut.

the scene where it all unravels is truly one of the great plot twists I can remember.

Jesse just drives me nuts. Walter is phenomenal. Liked Breaking Bad, but it's just a good show to me. The cop brother in law is hysterical.

Better Call Saul has much better characters. Some are crossovers, but the characters in BCS are all interesting in their own ways. They're all standouts, top to bottom. BCS is the better of the two IMO although Walter almost bridges that gap by himself.

Agree on GOT and Boardwalk Empire being better. Same with the Sopranos. The Wire, amazing.

Spartacus is near the top as well.

Narcos, the first three seasons are top notch. It's literally a clear case of reality being stranger than fiction.

The Expanse, someone here mentioned it one time and it starts slow but really gets going. The possibilities with this show (only one season left) having spinoffs is endless.

Vikings was great and Lagatha, hot as ****.

Dexter was interesting, maybe not top 10, but I couldn't stop watching it. I love Aimee Garcia who is also in Lucifer, but just couldn't get into that show.

Homeland, first couple of seasons were fire and I got got rid of Showtime. Wouldn't mind seeing where that series went.

Ray Donovan and Black Sails got my attention.

Lastly, Shameless. Hysterical, loved every season for some laugh out loud humor.

A top 5 is hard.

OZARK OZARK OZARK, how in the world did I forget this show. Ruth is one of the coolest and funniest characters I've seen in any show.
Ruth is a star. Darlene … scares the **** out of me.

Breaking Bad, The Wire, GOT in that order. Breaking Bad has the best ending of the 3. The Wire's final season is suspect. Wasn't a fan of the whole make up your own serial killer story line. GOT's final season by far the worse final season of a great show that I can think of but I still put it top 3 just because how great it was leading up.

Ozark is fantastic! I can’t wait until the next season is available. Fun fact, the last season with the “casino” that looked like twin towers was filmed in Savannah (close to where I live) and it’s actually a hotel.
Been waiting for Ozark to come back on for months. I liked Power better than BB.

The Last Kingdom was good too.

Last year I binged Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. I recognize that they both get a lot of hype, but to me, it’s just hype. Excessive hype. Neither BB nor BCS is anywhere on the level of the best HBO shows. The only reason I even finished Better Call Saul is because I kept hoping it would get better because people said it was good. Meh, at best, is all I can add.

I don’t see how anyone could compare BB or BCS to The Wire much less believe the two are in the same league (There really isn’t anything that’s memorable about BB/BCS in the way that GOT and The Wire — in scenes and/or dialog — are memorable). GOT up until they ran out of source material was shaping up to be the best ever. I liked Boardwalk Empire much more than BB.
HBO has always been the king (and if you don't have HBO MAX this year, you sleeping. Maybe the best movie slate a streaming service has EVER had), but I enjoyed BB and Better Call Saul immensely.

Definitely NOT on the level of The Wire, which is dated in some aspects, but still amazingly prescient, predictive, and relevant. A work of art.

EDIT: Added the NOT.

I can tell you 50-100 scenes or genius dialog from The Wire or Game of Thrones, I can’t think of one for BB or BCS. The Godfather is like that, BB/BCS just isn’t to me. So what am I missing from BB/BCS?

Reading back through this thread I feel like some are arguing whether *** or ****y is goat (*** of course). Then there's the random weirdo who pops up and says "toes".

I did finish The Wire way back in May-ish. I see why it gets mentioned in the goat talk. As others have mentioned I do feel like some seasons were much better than others.

One of my personal all-time favorites now is Chernobyl. If you haven't seen it, make the time. It's only 5 episodes but for my money it's one of the best historical drama's I've ever watched. Probably watched it 4 or 5 times already.

I still think Breaking Bad was the best TV series ever. GOT might have been close until the final season that totally failed. I recently watched the Wire and enjoyed it but the fact that every season had a different main theme didn’t work for me. There were incredible seasons and there were boring seasons. The entire season 2 with the guys on the docks was a waste of time. Ozark has got me hooked despite having a few snoozer episodes too. They’re all fantastic shows so any complaints are really just nit picking.

I'm with the group that says BB was overrated. I binge watched it after it was over, and I just don't get all of the hype.

With that said, I thought I was the only person that liked Billions. LOL

PS. The Wire, nuff said (even with the dumbass serial killer angle).

Just knocked out S1 of The Wire. I moved to the Baltimore area 13 years ago so its interesting to watch a show set in an area I've become familiar with. So far so good, long ways to go before it's in the Top 5 conversation for me though.
Since I have a career in law enforcement, I usually shy away from police dramas because:

1. I try and watch something to forget about work.
2. They are often unrealistic and use incorrect terms and dialogue.

However, The Wire surpassed all of my expectations and was a joy to watch. Like someone mentioned earlier, I did have to push through season 2.

For you guys who enjoyed The Wire, please watch the Bosch series on Amazon Prime! I believe it’s 5 seasons (all great) and also an excellent series and features some of the same actors in The Wire.

I'm into Bosch, not on the same level as many shows being mentioned in this thread but very entertaining.

I'm military and I cringe watching some of the **** out there, but try to remind myself it's just for entertainment.
