Oregon Extension on the Table for Mario

We all know why the rest the country thinks Miami will never return to its glory days. And most of that comes from the fact we’ve tried to get by on the cheap. Well here’s our chance put up or shut up…#ALLIN

$10M in Oregon leads to roughly $1M in state income taxes = $9M in Florida.

Just saying

I'm so happy to see that my years worth of income tax lectures have finally had an impact!

Kidding...but it's definitely a relevant number.

I look at it slightly differently, though. $10M in Florida requires Phil Knight to go to $11M before he actually "matches"...

Do you really think that they offer him an extension only because Miami is pushing for him? I bet that offer has been on Cristobal's table for weeks, if not months.

Word on that board is the extension has been in process for a bit. It wasn’t a priority because of other things- his mom’s health for one.

Guess it became a priority in the past 48 hours

Lol, look at how these guys are twisting the earlier report. They contextualiza it as Mario’s people and OU being in contract negotiations. Not that OU made an offer he hasn’t signed yet. Don’t know if he comes but there’s a lot of wishcasting going on that he’d never consider us.

Oregon waits until the LAST DAY to "negotiate" with Mario.

Where was the negotiation when he earned an automatic one-year extension by winning 9 games?

Where was the negotiation when multiple zero-championship coaches re-set the market to $9.5 million per year?

And what, exactly, needs to be "negotiated" with a guy who is already under contract? All you have to do is say "more money, more years". Or is Mario negotiating to have Oregon buy his house for $500K over asking price?

I'm going to say it again - the "Miami can't win a bidding war with Oregon" narrative is the biggest bullsh!t argument regarding Mario staying or leaving. Phil Knights billions are irrelevant. He isn't getting offered a $2 billion contract. It's probably going to be in the 8-10 million range, which UM would have no problem matching (not even taking into consideration the huge tax bill in Oregon) The main difference will probably be in years being offered in the deal.
Give him a dime sentence then, whatever.

It's pure fantasy. I'm guessing he has a competent agent. Besides what do we care? Everyone is gonna be in the same cash strapped/buyout boat soon.. At least ask the big boys.
Couldn’t agree more

Don’t shoot the messanager, not claiming to be a insider, SIAP. Buddy of mine had lunch with a BOT member earlier and he said Phil Knight told Mario he will give him 10m over whatever Miami offers.

Per year, or total?

So if Miami gives Mario $100 million over 10 years, and Phil Knight gives $110 million over 10 years...that JUST ABOUT COVERS Oregon state income tax.

Great job, Phil!

Remember, back when those media guys were younger, we’d routinely beat the dogsh*t out of their teams. We were the bad guys of CFB. They’ll rely on the old narrative if it comforts them in thinking we’ll never be back.
Agree. He's just masking his trauma with humor(or poor attempts at it). I feel for him
