On Emmanuel Karnley...

I get not being happy about losing Flowers but unless he told the program he was going to reclassify beforehand what could Miami do? CB was a major issue and I don’t see the issue with how Miami handled it. Bring in several guys, have them compete, low man on the totem pole leaves.

Let Flowers get his bag and hopefully PT. Then recruit him when he jumps in portal in October when Slingblade is canned.

The receipts that I keep and the Kool-Aid that was served.

People can see through BS so make it harder next time.
@DMoney literally said a "Miami source says" before the description, then finishes it off talking about the worry about the position but that we expect to take 2-3. We ended up taking 4, with him being the 4th. You're acting like D$ was lying lol

RB is a minor concern, WR is a big problem, LB seems to be a constant enigma, and safety is a major hole.

But QB, OL, TE, CB, and potentially DL should be good enough to have us competing for the ACC title until our annual November faceplant.
Honestly, I have more concerns than this and will expound upon them with numbers at a later date. The usual fanboys will get blue in the face and yell because it hurts their feelings, but will wait til the Spring is fully done.

I think there’s a major reality check that’s going to happen if we don’t drastically improve the starters at multiple positions in the next four days. And scanning the portal currently, there’s very little of those guys left (and that entered to begin with).

As of RIGHT NOW (things can change and there’s still an offseason of improvement to come), we are worse at almost every position on offense than in 2024, and didn’t improve enough on defense for us to compete nationally imo. Which is disappointing in Year 4.

I'll disagree, He has not signed a single 5* Skill player in 4 years. He has only signed 1 potential 1st rd pick out of high school. Class rankings aren't important to me, but 1 top 5 class in 4 years is elite? Mario is a relentless and stubborn recruiter. Mario has not been elite here but he has been better.
I guess we forget that Jojo Trader was a 5 star to make the narrative fit.

Elite just means different things to different people

Landing Justin Scott for example was an “elite” recruiting move. Landing Mauigoa was “elite”

Much like Mario’s coaching career there’s been glimpses of greatness usually followed up by incredibly bad performances

You’re not elite if you’re not consistent

His effort is “elite” I’ll certainly give him that

Oregon is borderline but trending in that direction. If you want to say elite for the ACC then I would agree.
We could go back and forth on this for sure. Mario is a great recruiter and what is elite about him is the work ethic. That to me, no one tops. But it can only take you so far.

Those 5 are elite at recruiting and they happen to have a bunch of money. The relationship between the two is more important than ever and diminishes the value of a true recruiting HC.

Now, I’m happy you said he’s elite for the ACC. That is true because we’re top class every cycle there, usually by a substantial margin.

So how the f^ck has he not even made the ACCCG in 3 years? The ROI is extremely concerning, but I’m sure someone will find a way to argue against it.

That’s not my argument…we are strictly talking recruiting
Got it. Momentum on the field, or lack there of, has also been argued to impact recruiting.

While money always talks, recruiting is also an ever changing game -- and currently rapidly so... being slow to adapt is not ideal.

Working harder, not smarter is also not elite.

I was one of the ones that watched his tape after he committed, he had above average speed on tape, so his speed never stood out to me. He’s long (pause) and a decent deep ball (pause) corner. When I watched his film he got beat on a lot of slants, and gave up lots of yards after the catch.

The Mario apologist standard. Year 4, nine wins is cool.

I am not a Mario apologist but he is our coach for the foreseeable future so I will support him and he obviously bleeds this **** and doesnt want to fail and works hard. I candidly always looked at him like our own Jim Harbaugh, signed a big contract after 4 years at Stanford and went through ups and downs.

Mario likewise spent 4 years at Oregon. Harbaugh went 8-5 (5-4 in conference) in year 3. Finished 3rd/3rd/4th in conference in his first 3 years. Year 4 was 8-1 in conference and 10-3 overall and they tied for first in the conference. Harbaugh also went 1-4 in bowl games in this time frame.

year 5 slight downturn to 9-4, then Covid was an off year, he went 2-4, post covid in 2021 however? 12-2; 13-1 and 12-0, first every year and won the championship in 2023.

Basically what I am saying is I think year 4 is very very important. If we make the playoffs and look good, I would be hella happy with a Michigan type run of 37-3 to follow.

Replacing:
best QB in Miami history
1,000 yards rushing and 10 TDs; no RB that’s averaged more than 10 Att/G
Top 6 receivers; no one over 150 yards returning
Starting LT
one of best kickers in the league
Best DT is sunbelt level transfer
No upgrade at LB
No upgrade at KR/PR

I’ve been trying to express this but I have failed. We are going to regress in offensive scoring by at least 10 ppg and yards by probably 100 ypg. We have not upgraded our defense enough to overcome this. The regression is going to be brutal. And I don’t think our OL will protect Beck the way they did Cam because he has great escapability. We are depending on a lot of development that we just haven’t seen from this staff. Will be a fight of a season.
