The big problem I see here is that, upon close review of his performance, why would Penn St. hire Golden? The only thing he's ever proven as a HC is that he can take a terrible program and build up to mediocrity. He's never excelled. He's never come close to being great. At Miami, this year, he had a great opportunity take that leap -- from mediocre or pretty good to great -- and he sharted himself massively. This past season was an abomination, the degree of which is masked by the fact that we won 9 games against mediocre or downright pathetic competition.
If dozens of posters on the internet can see that Golden can't coach himself out of a paper bag, especially following this recent bowl game, which appears to galvanized even those most loyal to Golden, then how is it that the Penn St. AD, with millions upon millions at stake, won't come to the same conclusion once he looks beyond the ****ing cute binder, the cheap suit, and the 8 pillars of ****? Behind the cute platitudes about attitude and commitment, there is an empty suit on gameday. He's an organized, hard-working guy, a dedicated recruiter, but when the players hit the field on Saturday, he's out of his depth. The results and game-tape show it. My fear is that Penn St. will come to that realization, and we're stuck with this guy for 2-3 more years of frustration.
I'm on pins and needles here. If Golden leaves, combined with the light NCAA sanctions, then this will have been a HUGE year for the program. If he stays, we're on a ****ing treadmill to nowhere, and missing out on great coaching candidates.
