No Pena, No Haulcy, No LB, No DTs, No #1 WR…

On the strength of December, yes.

But we had needs to fill in April and we whiffed HARRRD.

But that’s what I’m saying. What does it matter when they got here? If anything, it’s better we got them in December, they got a spring here.

Full disclosure, I’m not saying everything is wonderful and this roster is perfect. We clearly missed on some kids the staff wanted.

But just imagine for a minute we signed zero kids in December. And every member of this #4 ranked class came in this window. The board would be endless booty gifs. Look at the whole haul in total. It’s not nearly as bad as the mood here. This team should be very good again, provided our QB is 100% soon.

Do whatever it takes to get Haulcy. Land Smith for depth at safety. Find a serviceable DT somewhere somehow (make Robinson an offer he cannot refuse and flip him?). I will feel much better if we can get that done.

Brother, I am with you on 99% of the threads and posts. I hate mopery. But forget the portal rankings -- which are because we had such a strong Winter portal -- and focus on this question: Did we fill the holes we needed to fill? The answer is clearly no. This is just like the DB and DT holes last off cycle. We needed more than we got.

I really hope Mario has some grad transfers lined up who are transferring outside the portal process after they graduate in May. Because we still have gaps.

I hear you, and I’ve been saying a lot of the same things today. But where are the holes on the roster that will burn us like 2024 DBs? I’m not saying every room is national championship quality, clearly it’s not. But the 2024 DB room we whiffed on portal kids because we were trying to upgrade from horrendous HS recruiting. We all knew we hadn’t recruited DBs for **** for years. Where are we thinking might be the hole that blows the season for us? WR? We have blue-chips everywhere. DT? Same. LB maybe? Same, but I am kinda worried here.

My point is, we were all petrified headed into last year because we were allergic to recruiting DBs for ******* ever. And then the portal haul was ehhhh. So we all had our breath held. If the same thing happens to another room this year like WR or DT, then our coaches stink because we DID recruit well enough there on paper. That’s gotta come to fruition or we’re ****ed anyway.

The fall and spring windows are completely independent though. Why lump them together? That’s like lumping the 24 and 25 high school classes together and reviewing them only in the aggregate in order to justify the 25 class.

Not sure how you call a kicker a depth piece.

And Keelon Marion will not just be a depth piece, as he will be important at both WR and special teams returner. He's actually an All American return man.

Also would not be surprised if Bonner starts, but that may be more of an indictment against our current LBs.
If he’s our kicker god help us

Agreed on Marion on special teams. But will likely give us zero at receiver which is what we need.

If Bonner starts we’re in bad shape I agree

What? How are they independent? They’re all kids who were not on the 2024 football team and who will be on the 2025 football team? It’s literally one class. That’s why the portal rankings, of which we are #4 on 247, include both windows.

The game is played in the fall. There’s only one roster per year. The 2024 one did not have Lucas, Brantley, Poyser, Blay etc on it. The 2025 one will.

Worst spring portal of the Mario era?

Norvell had an offseason like this after his best season, which also ended in disappointment. He thought going undefeated would cause players to fall over themselves rushing to join his program. In the end, they didn’t have the funds or the traction with players, despite a historic season.

Mario had the #1 draft pick and couldn’t make the 13 team playoff. Is this hurting him?

What’s the issue here.
Definitely post of the year.

The kicker hasn't missed an extra point in 3 years.

Yes, his 2024 post-season was abysmal. Missed 4 kicks, including 2 long ones.

But he was over 80% in 2022 and 2023 on FGs. Something happened in the 2024 postseason, though (injury), because he was money for three years before this last post-season.

Disagree. Our fall portal additions have nothing to do with our spring portal additions (or lack thereof at positions of need thus far). In fact, I would argue our impressive fall haul should have made landing impact players in the spring (notably at WR) easier. Lumping them together is just a convenient way to excuse our lackluster spring haul.

Hopefully we close strong, pull a couple rabbits out of a hat somehow, and this discussion becomes moot.

It’s tough to articulate how dumb this is, but ok. Agree to disagree, vehemently.

You are literally saying the 2025 recruiting class, for example, should be broken into who committed in the first 6 months of the cycle and who committed in the second 6 months. That makes literally zero sense. They’re all new additions to the fall football team. We only play 1 season a year. What you’re saying is absurd.

The fall portal adds were already on the team, participated in spring, etc. That example is not even in the same zip code. I’m done here though, have a blessed weekend.

hilariously dumb take. I'll consent to LB, but what in the **** else gives you 8-4 in terms of needs? we're the most talented team already in each of our games this season with the roster we currently have
Question.

How are we measuring "talent?"

Were we the most talented team in each of our games last season? What about the year before that? And the one before that?

How far has this talent gotten us?

We had severe talent deficiency in the secondary and a terrible defensive play caller

We have a highly respected DC now (worst case, at least a different one) and we fixed our DB room

There’s rooms we can upgrade, but there’s no rooms as bad as our DB room was this past year and that plus Guidry is what stopped us from going as far as we wanted

Why is our #1 wr the slot? Also TE can line up the slot all day long.

can’t you easily say what if he is a 1000 yard guy though? Is

DMoney said we also had to worry about spending money on our own guys. What t?if Jojo and Carr decide to leave because we brought in a very average WR in Pena?
Could you have spent a Little More on Isiah Horton?

Miami added 3 important players today. A returner a kicker and a depth backer with years to play. I like what we added overall. We need a DT and safety. I think smith plays. If we get him. I’m ok with smith. I’d rather have had some of the other safeties but I like the DB room. But DT is an issue to me. Every guy that leaves we miss on. Figure it out!
