No Need To Complain About Coaching In Year One. History Says So

You really can’t learn much from a Head Coaches first season.

History has told us that many times, yet we want to fly banners and fire everyone all the way down to the janitor.

The coaches who are considered the top in their field have all posted underwhelming records their first years

1.) Tom Herman - Texas 7-6
2.) Nick Saban (GOAT)
*Mich State- 7-6
*LSU - 8-4
*Alabama 7-6
3.) Pete Carol - USC 7-6
4.) Dabo Swinney- 8-5
5.) Jim Tressel - Ohio State -7-5
6.) Jimmy Johnson - UM - 8-5

The truth is almost every Head Coach flopped their first season after taking over a program on the decline. It didn’t matter how great they were or their experience level, the first year results were pretty much the same. Multiple losses with bad performances.

You have to ask yourself, why are you so upset if you know the first season of a new head coach is multiple losses? History has shown that time and time again

We have won the coastal once in 15 years and you guys were pencilling in a 10 and 11 win season? Bro if Kansas, Wake Forest or another school fans were upset with not winning 10 or 11 games you would laugh them off the Internet. The reality is harsh. Those schools have won just as many conference titles and divisions titles in the last 15 years as UM

For the first two years, the fans need to do their part in making the program look attractive. If after year two and their is no improvement then it’s ok to voice concerns and ask for a new situation
So all but Dabo were new to the team, and all had winning records, we might go 4-8 and do not look like we will have a winning record.
Someone said it correct, he needs to clean house will is crap assistants like Jimmy did.

I have to disagree with you here Rell. This program was trash last year and the year before that and the year before that. We got lucky af when won 10 games. We should have lost 3 of the games we won.

Diaz needs to show me something though. One thing about all the first year teams the OP mentioned is that they all showed glimpses of what they could become. Yea they had ****** games but the also has some really good games in there too. We haven’t played a good game yet.

OK, by all accounts, we weren’t “trash” in 2016 or 2017. We had the longest winning streak in the nation once upon a time. We completely embarrassed the #16 team in the nation in our bowl game, and we rolled on several top 25 teams in 2017, reaching #2 at one point.

2018 we were trash, offensively. We still fielded a very strong defense. If we were completely trash, Manny would’ve completely overhauled both sides, maybe keeping a couple of assistants. He let us know, by his moves, that it was the O that were not holding up to “the standard.”

The only trash thing I’ve seen between the last 3 regimes is trying to force their philosophies that don’t match the personnel.

Actually this is the projected record of a rebuilding team that has been on the decline for 15 years

Mark Ritch was an experienced and accomplished coach. He stabilized the program his first season and was able to take a veteran team to almost an undefeated season in his second season

The third seasons are always tough because of graduation, depth issues, holes in Rosters and poor player evaluations from the previous staff. Last season we had virtually no depth and injuries to key players derailed any progress.

We are playing with about 73 scholarship players, with about 10 not being program changing athletes. Simply can’t win that way

So manny has to rebuild a defense he build??
Interesting.
So you are saying manny did a sh1tty job recruiting for the defense?

I feel u OP but when your rexruiting class sucks then u cant use this excuse if u not bringing in elite talent.

OP answer this question as truthfully as possible. How many of those teams/coaches listed were as talented as 2019 Miami?. What Manny sold us was not a rebuild, he said all this team needed was an offense to rev up the engine, and he is right, this team has top 10 blue chip talent ratio but poorly coached.

This is exactly right.

I really hate these kind of post. To suggest somehow Manny is anything like these coaches or that the situation is anything near the same is naive or purposely ignorant.

Not to mention, as someone already said…there are 1000 examples where the coach did not turn the team around. The situation here is nowhere near the same.

What is the more likely situation? Manny is the next Nick or Dabo or he is one of the 1000s that will not turn it around.

I would be fine with a bad record in year 1 if I could see that everything was getting on track.

But its not.

Things are getting worse. In every single aspect, things are worse. Diaz has dug a hole deeper than golden and richt in only one year, and the ONLY thing that will help is hiring a big-name, proven head coach.

Spoiler aleft. Almost everyone of them was a head coach before the job you reference.

Your argument is thus so flawed that you need to GTFOH

I wonder if any of those teams had as much talent as Miami does this year.

Some of them did, but that’s not that relevant.

You can’t compare Manny to that list.

Those guys were strangers instilling entirely new cultures to kids they had never seen before.

You have to compare Manny to guys like Dabo and Jimbo.

They were coaches intimately familiar with what they had.

Manny’s defense lost guys to the nfl from the defensive line and secondary, but still got better every year. The roster turnover is nothing new but they have slipped under his new coordinator.

He gambled on a guy with no experience to run his special teams even after witnessing the hardship bad special teams play put on his defense.

The most damning indictment of Manny is his performance against such a weak set of opponents. None those other coaches had as easy a road to success.

The defense has been bad when it has mattered most of the time and the offense won’t believe the tape and commit to what they do best. Special teams is an abortion like usual.

Manny has to own this, but he is deflecting. We know how it ends when our coaches due that. If he doesn’t look in the mirror and make ballsy changes, he will have the shortest and worst tenure of any Hurricane coach for a long time.

What about the 4551 other coaches who started off poorly and stayed that way lol. History has told us only a tiny fraction of coaches who started off slow ( I doubt any of them looked this bad ) turned it around.

Terrible take by the OP.

The losses, the ineptitude, recruiting trending down... this won't end well.

Furthermore, this isn't truly year 1. It's year 4. As soon as people realize that, the better off they'll be.

Look at these and tell me if we played the same level of competition.

Not one of those guys posted a losing record in their first year. Manny will be lucky to win 4 games his first year against a schedule of ****** teams. 10 of the teams don't even come close to the talent level Manny has. Kansas and WF don't have near the talent Miami has. The difference is, those teams are apparently being coached up while Miami is being coached down.
What talent level? How many 1st rounders do we have?

Every single one of those coaches finished over .500 and made it to a bowl game. Diaz is likely finishing 4-8 and missing a bowl. 7-8 wins would be mediocre but understandable. Even 6 and a bowl would be bad but a 2nd season could be justified. 4 wins including losses to UF and FSU should mean termination. And the AD who bought him from another school should be fired as well.
