Nigel Bethel

Straight up I think the kid can be a contributor here, but in all reality, he is in the bottom fifth of this class, in terms of talent and importance......

Kind of with ya'll here. Ive wanted the kid, and want him in this class, but I dont think he's a cant miss type prospect, nor that he would be seeing any real playing time next year. I looked at him more as quality depth, and someone who could hopefully develop into a solid CB, but Thomas is definitely the prize we need there, and having as many BTW kids here is good for us to keep the pipeline running, and make it easier to bring in future studs. As for Nigel himself, he's not going to make or break this class.

Georgia Signed 5 CB last cycle, and has 2 signed now, plus probably getting another one. So he would probably be the 9th CB in the last two years.

No way he goes there. UGA hasn't even sent many CB to the league, and if they did they wash out after 1 season.

No way man. Champ Bailey!!! He's going to be the next Champ Bailey!! Wonder how many times UGA is still selling that dream.

The only guy that I sense really wants to be here is Chad Thomas.

Been hearing funny things about Bethel for a few weeks over several websites.

Completely agree and know that the street agent/ coaches are on the take and get commissioned. Remember these guys don't make a lot of money. They do, however, play the role of father-figure to a lot of their football players. Some even live their coaches like we saw with Alex Collins. So when a school comes knocking and offers these coaches X amount of dollars for every high-value kid they can deliver, of course they listen and many get paid.

When the local program doesn't play that game to the same degree, then the hometown recruiting advantage disappears. That's life in SoFla recruiting.

BINGO. People that have never been around South Florida HS football really dont understand how it works. They think the $$$ thing is all BS or sour grapes. They dont realize how sleazy it all is, especially with the inner city kids. These kids are prayed on and groomed from the time they play Pop Warner. Then in HS, you have all these Coaches, and "assistants" and the "hanger ons" who hang around these programs, each school has them. Many of these guys are tight with these kids, they have done them favors, bought them shoes, loaned them money, been like older brothers to many of these kids, **** in some cases they are, brothers, cousins, uncles, couple that with lack of a real father in the home, or a weak family unit, and the pressure from these guys that hang around these programs, and its real easy for programs with deep pockets to come down here, and instantly burrow their way in with some cash, and get these "street agents" to steer kids towards their programs.

Its been going on forever, and its almost impossible to stop. No one is going to blow the whistle on it. UM cant, because if we did, we would make an army of enemies at all these schools.

The one thing we have going for us with Chad, is that he's not REALLY a BTW guy. He transferred in there, but he's been more into his music thing, and was never part of that BTW clique the way some of these other guys are. So the influence some of these "coaches" have on him, is probably more limited. That and Chad seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders, and decent family support. He has clear goals and knows what he wants out of a school. Seems like a smart kid who made a solid business decision for his future.

The others, well, its more of the same South Florida High School player drama.

Am NOT convinced that Nigel is going to bail FWIW. I dont get the sense "he never really wanted to be here" or any of that. Been hearing since at least last year that he was "really high on Miami". Of course things change, and maybe he's tired of being an afterthought with all the Cook, Lane, Dixon hype and wants to create some drama too, line up some other big time offers so he can say "See I had big programs after me too". Hope that's all it is. Seems kind of pathetic that he's actively trying to get UGA to offer him.

This will end similar to the BTW saga last year. Thomas will be the next one to start looking around. Wouldn't shock me if we get none of the BTW kids.

Wonder if we are feeling good about JC, maybe we arent really showing him the love either. Everyone seems convinced that JC would go to Safety, but I think he may be a corner here. I dont think we need that many corners in this class, so losing Bethel isnt exactly the end of the world.

Thomas is already looking around. He has said he is going to take some visits. One thing we have to hope for is that he made his commitment not just based on liking our team, but on the quality of the Music program at UM which was very important to him. For a school to be a real threat, I think they will have to have a top notch music program.

I don't understand why these guys are pulling this **** now if all they want is attention. You would think they will all stand together to try to recruit the best class possible. I'm not weak of mind and can handle the ups and down of recruiting, I also understand that these are 18 year old kids, but if you wanted attention, why not do it some other time when we are not in the middle of trying to close the deal on 2-3 studs that can help win games.

Its all about upbringing and influences. There are certain kids, who are brought up in that culture and spirit of "team, loyalty, commitment". and others who are brought up to think of themselves as "stars" and "get yours" and "its all about you and making that money". They dont have the same outlook. You see it with kids like Berrios, guys like McDermott, and Jenkins. I think a lot of it has to do with family structure, and the values you are brought up with.

Chad Thomas is actually more intelligent than any administration or coach at BTW. He applied and was accepted to literally the most competitive and rigorous HS in the country when he was at New World. He sees through the bull**** and is to smart to be manipulated

LOL. Booker T and Lice strike again.

Chad at least seems really well adjusted so I doubt we'll have to put up with any nonsense from him.

Bingo. The 'hood mentality comes through with lots of these kids.
