Marshall?

Ncaa was just waiting to pounce if Miami got into the bidding war. Sorry Bro there are times when you can play the bag game and times when you know it's all a setup that could wreck the program. Second, we also know that even Bama balked at the asking amount. It's not because they don't have the money, but because they know what players are worth. Vastly overpaying like UF did is not only pathetic, but also shows other recruits that Miami is recruiting scared and they can squeeze Miami.

Also, a kid like him with a coach who is anti-Miami would be quite likely to take Miami's money and say he was committed, then a few months from now take another 100k to flip to UF or Bama. There was no point in trying to come up with a bag because we'd be flushing money down the toilet.

In all fairness, the Gaytors upped the ante out of desperation.

If we slid Marshall 3 or 4 hundred large, quietly, he'd flip back to us.

That silent commit $hi+ is for the birds....only go by what you hear from a recruit publicly....also, don't count them in a class until they sign and enroll...

Why don't people comprehend the difference between a silent commit...and everything else.

Marshall was NOT a silent. A silent is when someone commits, but keeps it quiet for months, so that nobody will pressure them. Marshall told the coaches he was coming to UM an hour before he was going to announce it publicly.

There is a difference.

I wouldn't put all that money in one HS CB. Yes he's a 5 star, but he's also never played a game at the college level. He could get hurt or end up being a head case like Willie Williams. If going to drop bags, go after those borderline 4/5 star CBs and diversify the portfolio to minimize the chance of having a dud. Get 3 of those high 4 star CBs to sign with that 300 large.

I have to be honest, nobody on the university/booster side looks at the money as an investment. It's a sunk cost. You can spend the money and the kid could leave in a month. Quite frankly, the money is spent to maintain the illusion of "we sign all the top talent", not necessarily to insure that every paid player is a major contributor.

As "some posters" have already alluded to, the money is now paid out in installments. Boosters will pay a certain amount for an official visit, or to cancel other official visits to rivals.

Marshall is absolutely worth it (assuming nobody gets caught), as he is a 5-star, plays a position of need, and would not only be a recruiting win for UM, but also a recruiting loss for an in-state rival.

its an emotional cost for these big money boosters. our boosters have to stop expecting a return on their investment and just pay the kids
