and the fourth would be terrific or something like that. These posters cough- harrycarayisgoat -cough are just throwing names out they'd want to have not necessarily Diaz.

And if it is 3 candidates that means he has narrowed things down and is focused on those 3 only.

Initially, Manny's camp leaked they were interested in Fedora and they may have had conversations (both Manny and he have same agent) but I think Fedora has a big ego and wants a HC gig at some point. He should be in no hurry to decide with his sizable buyout from NC. Don't think he really wants to be OC here or anywhere else.

Applewhite was rumored to have interviewed for the job and then you had this report by Stefan citing "multiple sources" he was hired. This seemed the most realistic choice given Manny's past association with him and the fact he could lean on his brief HC experience, and the guy has worked under some darn good headcoaches calling plays as an OC and been a qb coach. He has the Herman philosophy (from Meyers) of running a power spread with rpo and tempo. He would also bring concepts from Briles playbook. That is a perfect fit for the type of running backs we have coming back and skills of our returning wideouts/tightends.

Also another factor in Applewhite's favor is that he recruited Jarren Williams so he would already have some relationship established with at least 1 of our qbs. Don't think Applewhite's past indiscretion is really a factor. He was retained by Texas and hired later at Houston. The vetting has ready been done at those places.

The 3rd guy is definitely not Scott ( who went on record he would not leave Clemson unless to be an HC) and I don't think it is Coley.
It could possibly be Fisch. Personally he may be a candidate because some internal folks like him but I don't think this is the guy to run what Manny envisions on offense.

Regardless, I still think it is Applewhite and they are currently assembling a staff around him to make an official announcement before recruiting ramps up again. I think Manny wanted to have control of the announcement to have everything in place to make the desired splash he was talking about before recruiting starts.

Applewhite by himself would not be enough of a splash but there may be other guys like Seider (who supposedly reached out to Manny) those two in combination would make some waves in the recruiting world, I believe.

Anyway that is my .02 given the info already out there.

Manny getting hired in large part because his personality was well liked internally still has a chance of not being an issue because I think he can* succeed here based on other more tangible factors.

Jedd Fisch being brought back based on being well liked internally would be a colossal mistake, imo. I think that'd be more some dorks on the BoT AND Flake liking and relating to his demeanor/intellect more than anything football related. I think their mistaken love affair is falsely buttressed in their minds by his unremarkable stint at UCLA and an NFL job far less influential even than Kenny Dorsey's as his only specific title is "clock management specialist".

No, He used Applewhite and Fedora to a point as smokescreens to see who he can trust with Info he doesn’t want leaked which was a big problem under Richt so he used names he’s connected to. I think the hire works for another P5 school. It could be somebody like Matt Canada, or maybe Kliff because of the interview situation but who knows who’s the hire. I’m positive that Applewhite and Fedora were smokescreens though.

Would be humiliating for Diaz if after that shot in the arm speech he goes and hires a past failed OC who’s not even coaching the position right now.

We haven’t heard of Blake influencing or pushing any coaching decisions during the disastrous Golden or Richt eras and now he’s out of the woodwork to hire Fisch. Can’t make this up

This sounds like a reasonable take on all this OC speculation. I was uninspired at first of Applewhite, but after reading more into it I’ve come to the agreement and point to some of the reasons you mentioned as well.

Matt Canada doesn’t have a job right now. Kliff is going to the NFL.

How is Kliff going to the league when everybody is already conducting interviews and USC won’t let him interview? Think about that for a second...

Hence why I said “who knows who’s the hire” btw.

Well, Canada is unemployed and the championship game is tomorrow. No need to delay on Canada and if it's someone from Clemson or Baga, that's over tomorrow night

I’m fine with the majority of names that have been “leaked” intentionally or not. I trust Manny to make the smart decision.

As for the timing , it’s not in our control so why worry ? You know.

That’s just my guess. There’s word out there he might step down because USC has already blocked Jets and Cardinals from interviewing him.

Supposedly Kliff is stepping down due to them not allowing him to be interviewed for the NFL. Whole thing is a mess right now....lol

I was just throwing a name...only thing I’m certain about was that Applewhite and Fedora were smokescreens to catch leakers.
