Kul's Salary at Bama 750K

Y we still talking about this traitor, I hope he get raped by a wild boars left horn in bama.

This is the kind of stupid **** that makes this fanbase a laughingstock. Kul was an employee that left for a better paying gig. Why do you idiots get this twisted up over someone who did right by the program leaving for more money? Say it with me: COACHING IS A CAREER. COACHES, LIKE MOST EMPLOYEES AREN'T LOYAL TO INSTITUTIONS, THEY ARE LOYAL TO THEIR OWN BOTTOM LINE. Outside of some lifers with ties(and even then, I wouldn't be shocked that if a school like USC came after Diaz and gave him a boatload of money if he left), guys in demand can be poached, especially if a job entails a pay increase and a more favorable working environment. For those of us who have met Coach Kool, it's obvious that he is a pickup trucks and cowboy boots kind of guy. Living in Tuscaloosa is a better fit for him, the job also comes with him not having to do as much recruiting, which is something he doesn't relish doing to begin with. Combined with a significant raise, it makes sense why he would leave.

I know it's tough for some of the people working jobs to understand, but when you are in demand, odds are you are doing something right and opportunities will come your way. Kool did a fine job as DL coach here, and I wish him the best. That said, I trust Richt's ability to judge coaching talent, and it appears that Coach Simpson will be able to fill Kool's shoes in due time.

I know he left for a better paying gig but ask me if I give a fuq? I dont

Do I understand yea but I still dont care thats the problem

I would leave too.. He took a $250,000 bump.. **** yeah I'm gone.. Plus he knows he's at least gonna be in contention in the sec west until saban leaves.

If we're talkin' straight cash homie, I'm STILL living in South Florida makin' half a mil with no state income tax vs being a baller in a dump of a location. These guys are leaving for more (or their perception of more) than just the pay raise. Joe Schmoe makin' $50k in Pembroke Pines doesn't necessarily bolt to Bumfuk for $75k- a relative comparison when talking big time college athletics.

That is not a relative comparison. Making 50k a year you are living pay check to pay check driving around in a used civic. 75K you can buy a new civic and not be worried about when your next pay check comes in. 500k you live in a nice house and drive around in an e-class, but with 750k you have a second home and can afford an S-Class or better. The lifestyle jump from 50k-75k is much smaller then 500k-750k.

Great word Tad! Perception and yes perception wise Miami is probably a better place to live, but Miami to me is like NY it isn't for everyone.

It's relative in this sense- in the world of big time college football that coaches don't always jump ship at the first offer of a $200k raise.

Sure, this is significant lifechanging money to the general populus but your analogy about car upgrades and a second mortgage doesn't hold up if you admit that Kewl wasn't leaving based only on the same raise to go to about 150 other programs not named Alabaga.

In that case I 100% agree. All of those blue/purple blood schools are in their own league when it comes to salaries. We don't know how much Kul was getting at Miami, but even if it was as high as 500k then an extra 250k is a massive bonus and 99% of coaches would bolt for that salary increase.
And $750K is a boatload of cash for a position coach. That either speaks volumes about Kul's rep or Sabag's fear of the return of the U.

It really isn't. 50k-75k means you have a little more spending money. 500-750k is life changing. There are not even close to 150 programs that would offer him that kind of salary. There are less than 130 FBS teams and less than 15(including Bama) could offer him that kind of money and even fewer where willing to. 50k is the lower end of middle class and 75k is still middle class. 500k a year puts you in the class of good Doctors/Lawyers and 750k(especially in Bama) puts you in the class of wealthy small business owners, lower-mid level investment bankers/private equity guys, and even partners at the larger accounting firms make that kind of money.

People are also forgetting that Miami isn't paradise for everyone. If you've lived in other places, or have a certain type of personality, Miami may not be for you. A lot of our fans have this mistaken assumption that Miami is some super duper place where everyone is happy to be there. That isn't the case, and for Kool, it wasn't his type of scene. There's a reason why a lot of the kids I went through undergrad and grad school with got the **** out once we shook Dr. Shalala's hand at Commencement. The school is great, Coral Gables is great, but living in Miami can be trying unless you find your niche.

If you know somewhere is more your speed, and you are getting a significant pay raise(Did I mention that it's far cheaper to live in Tuscaloosa), then why wouldn't you take a job there?

My point wasn't that there are a ton of programs that could offer a D-Line coach $750k but that Kewl wouldn't have jumped at ANY program that did- hence negating the point some people are trying to make that money is the ultimate motivating factor here.

The way you guys are speaking about this "lifechanging" raise too also supposes that Kewl is even going to be in Tuscaloosy for more than a year or two too. That dude will jump at the first NFL offer he gets and going to Alabaga probably (correct or not) improved those odds in his mind. THAT was the motivating factor in my eyes, not moving up one economic class as residents of Alabamy.

Please. If the Dolphins had offered Ol' Kewl a job (like he was trying to get in Tampa) he'd be living in Davie saying how South Florida has something for everyone!

This whole "Miami isn't for everyone" narrative is always more about flaws or preexisting biases in the individual whining or looking for an excuse in their own failings in living or coming here than it is about the area itself.

Sure, nowhere is paradise.....but this is a gigantic major metropolitan area. If you can't find your "niche" then you either aren't looking or don't have one.

As far as Miami alumni not staying in the area, that is true of ANY small private school in a major city that draws the majority of its student body from outside of its immediate area. That said, a TON of people DO stay. Usually the ones that can get beyond using "I'm not Latin so I couldn't find a job or get laid there" as an excuse for their own suckitude.....or when they're not saying how New York or Boston is the greatest place on Earth.

Exactly... you said if Kol got a job with the Dolphins "he'd be living in Davie saying how South Florida has something for everyone!"
Right... Davie is not Miami. Look, I've lived in Miami for most of my life and I've also been trying to get the **** out too for a bunch of years. My job kept me here pure and simple. I have been all over this country and I have kids that live in Gainesville and Canton, GA. and when I drive back home as soon as you get to 826 or 836 or anywhere around central Dade you start encountering some of the worst drivers in the country.
I'm bilingual but I have numerous good friends that have had problems related with language and this city. I could elaborate but I don't think I need to. Yes there are some nice things about So. FL but your age group influences what matters to you. If you are young verses if you are retired like me makes a big difference. I agree about a "niche" when living here or in any major metropolitan area.
I can thank the U for keeping me entertained and sane for all these trying years in this town.

meanwhile not enough money to pay players. lol what a joke.

Btw if P5 schools just set aside just $2m to pay football players, a sport that makes big programs in the $40M+ range of PROFIT, they could pay Every scholarship player $24k/yr plus tuition, room, and board.

But can't possibly do that, can we! Instead Saban needs to make $12m instead of just $10m.

Different topic altogether but the argument about paying players is really irrelevant. The number of schools that can shrug-off that additional $2,000,000 a year in payroll for players is limited to maybe 10 to 15 universities. It's a nonstarter and it will never happen. The information is right there for anyone who wants to research it. Once you get past the Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. most sports programs are lucky to break even and that's with football already paying the bills for sports no one cares about like Women's basketball which lose most universities $2,000,000 a year.

I agree that was a big part of it, but I gauruntee he would have taken a job almost anywhere for 250k raise he just wasn't offered them because he can't recruit.
