Common sense
Because he couldn’t commit to any of those schools. Kid even said us and Minnesota were his finalists because we were the only ones really after him. People here will try to tell you otherwise. Use your common sense though, the kid said it himself lol.

Oh yeah I just wanted to hear what the excuses were. The same people that try and spin getting a bunch of 3 stars at DT is cool are the same ones complaining when we get pushed around by LSU.

Just because you take 5 DT's doesn't mean they're all gonna be good. That's how you end up with a guy like Pat Bethel out there who is only out there because we need 11 guys out on the field.

At some point we have to start getting top tier guys in the trenches. It’s not always about starts.....but the proof is there that stars matter and the teams winning it all each year are loaded with 4-5 star players.

Because we're talking about DTs and he's inexplicably starting for us. Try and keep up.

No way Bro, @Zbrod95 assured me that Holley had a legit offer from every SEC school but Miami/Minnesota recruited him better. :monkey-serious:

You don't build a great DL on paper. You can recruit all the 4* & 5* you want but it means nothing if they can't fill different roles. Plus for every Eddie Goldman or Tim Jernigan - good not great college players (better pros) - there's a Keef Bryant or Marcus Forston.

We have stud disruptors like Garvin, Rousseau, Nesta. Bogle and Summerall could enter that conversation. To build out the line you surround those guys with space-eaters, edge setters, inside-outside tweeners who can push the pocket, edge rush specialists, etc. Then you develop those players in your program. Now you can diversify fronts and pick guys who can execute specific assignments.

It's plainly obvious what the staff is doing with this DL class but the star whores are too blinded by lists to pay attention.

And for every Forston and Keef you got an Ed Oliver, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins and the list could go in and on. The odds of a 4-5 star developing into elite talent is much better than trying to “develope” 3 star players and this is fact.

we are traumatized by al golden. this staff has been very good on evaluations.

I have no problem with taking the guys we're taking but we're still falling short in one area in DT recruiting and that one area is holding us back on the field right now... we have no big man in the middle eating up blocks and a bunch of 3 techs that are developmental DTs at 270-285 lbs. Somebody is getting double teamed every play in the middle and we don't have anyone that can take it right now.. if it's Bethel.. he ends up on his ***. If it's Willis he's pretty much taken out of the play and the other guys aren't good enough to make the play like McIntosh was. Last year, if it was Norton, he held his ground and let others make the play and McIntosh made the play.

We got Miller last year and he'll take that roll eventually but we need more. We can't waste Nesta as a space eater.. he needs to be the one making plays but he's the next biggest dude.

The LSU and Clemson DTs are 300-330 lbs. We're maxing out at 300 or 305. It's just tough to hang in the trenches that way. We'll make plays getting up field, but eventually you've got to have a good mix of both size and aggressiveness. If Willis had Norton at 310-315 beside him he'd be playing at an even higher level.

After watching some Buford game film, I think Holley is going to be that guy.

I would like to add another 300+ guy, though, preferably from JUCO. I think we will be good adding Ingraham, Blissett and Munoz as 3Ts.

At first I thought he would be that guy. I like the short 6'0-6'2 DTs that carry weight good but i saw that he's only about 280 lbs. Carrying 25-30 lbs extra might make him a totally different player in a bad way

In fat or muscle? He easily can come in 6'2 300 next fall camp and not lose a step

Idk... he's one that has some bad weight to lose and replace it with good weight. He'll probably be a solid 290 next year. We're needing a big 310-320 bully and I just don't see that being him. Could be Ford but he's manhandled like a LB playing DT.
