Jake Garcia thoughts

garcia reminds me of colt mccoy. i don't think he has an NFL ceiling but a good program should be able to win a lot of games with him at QB

and not to relitigate brad kaaya's career again but he is the school's all time leading passer and performed like a star in big time games against teams like FSU and notre dame. he just happened to play for a coach who ran the worst defense we've ever seen at miami. statistically brad's career is almost identical to ken dorsey's. if that's what we get from garcia it will be a huge success, that's easily an above average outcome by any statistical measure you can come up with.
Goff. McCoy. Howell. Nix.

Jesus, are people just picking a white QB's name out of a hat at this point?! :ROFLMAO:

It's a good comp.

Any list will have busts but I was surprised at the hit rate. The majority of those guys played or will play in the NFL.
I guess its in the eye of the evaluator, I suppose.

I look at that list, and there are a TON of transfers, too, and thats a filter we need to look at when discussing these types of players. Half of those players ended up elsewhere before they became the quarterback they became. Considering the position, its something to throw into the discussion. Like...if this guy doesn't win the job in his second year, I don't foresee him sticking around and then you just hope this isn't a Fromm-Fields; Murray-who was it...Mond?; situation (you get the point).

I’m not his biggest fan but his arm is very lively. Nice release. It’s effortless. He also seems to have good touch and enough arm to zip in small windows.

I do dread listening to his interviews the next three years , cringe much smh.
That might improve with more interviews lol

I like his balance in the pocket. And, he isn’t the typical SoCal qb who struggles when the bullets really fly. He challenged himself in big boy ball in GA this year and held up. I like his mindset, leadership (everybody he meets seems to love him), and his arm. I think he’s a legit big time qb recruit.

That’s that west coast swag

I wouldn't read too much into it - coaches do this all the time...it's called being a professional. No different than when coaches are recruiting their butts off on the road only to take a job offer mid Feb.

As for Garcia, we needed to sign a QB this class. I don't think Matocha is the guy and as much as folks love hyping him, I'm not in the "All in for the *******" camp either. Need that comp.
When coaches bolt they're not sure they're gonna bolt til they get the right offer and the ink is dry. You always hedge your bets. You also don't want to sully your reputation by not working for your current team right up until the minute you take the other gig.

One thing he needs to clean up is how he secures the ball. He has weak hands and lost the ball multiple times in the games I watched.

Not a fan of what I saw but i’m always for more competition. I do think people are more so falling in love with his ranking which is way too high imo. We’ll see. There’s no player of King’s caliber in the portal. They needed to put a full court press on someone like Davis or Milroe. At least Lashlee was able to get his guy unlike a certain someone.

“When he has room to operate, he’s deadly”

Well you can say that about any QB.

This can also be attributed to lack of competition and location for TVD. Being from Conn hurts every recruit from there

Garcia needs to work on his feet and follow through. His stats seem pretty solid, though It would be better if he didn't have as many Interceptions. But at least I think his level of competition was higher than like Goffs... I think Garcia has a quick enough release, but idk he looks awkward after the ball leaves his hand on some throws, like throwing the ball deep took a lot of effort or something. Not really questioning his arm either, because he looks like he can hit the throws (Don't think he's like Colt McCoy who had no arm at all), but it just doesn't feel as easy as it does for Goff. Basically I think Goff is a more natural passer than Garcia - which is what made him a #1 overall pick. But theres a lot of room between Kaaya and Goff, so if Garcia is somewhere in that ballpark, that'll be a pretty **** good QB for us.

Plus they have different body types, Goff was tall and kinda lanky while Garcia is more athletic looking - though not sure he actually is more athletic. Anyone know if Garcia was a multi-sport athlete? Usually its pretty good when the QBs have played multiple sports each year. Lots of top NFL QBs played baseball (not necessarily pitcher btw) and Football.
