It's Official: California to let college athletes make money, defying NCAA

Alabama generates a lot more revenue than Miami. This would directly translate into value. Miami wouldn’t be too 25 in terms of value.
That doesn’t translate into off field opportunities because your still in tuscaloosa. There’s a reason why the big market pro teams are the best. Better exposure. When USC was on top Reggie bush and Matt leinert were bigger stars than anyone in BAMAs history

We live in a capitalist society which is what made our country great because your success is determined by how hard you work. We control our destiny in this country and these kids have every right under our constitution to make money off themselves. It’s the America way and the communist regime of the NCAAs days are numbered and will be totally blocked out big time CFB In the very near future as the ncaa needs football, not the other way around.
Great post my friend. If this leads to the end of the NCAA then I am all for it. Satan and Dumbo will not be able to compete with the USC's and UCLA's now. If you are a big time player and want something more than a sh***y dodge charger and water fall, then you will he to Cali. I can't wait until it's open to everyone.

Not sure why people are struggling with this concept.
Look at how the soccer model works internationally....the teams with the huge stadiums and support get the elite players....everyone else fights for the leftovers.
Same with the Marlins vs the big clubs.
That is the law of economics.

This makes the bag game legal bro, which only helps big schools and hurts Miami.
We live in a big market and play the same game now if this goes through. We can have players get anything from cruise deals to restaurant coupons. Hotel stays etc.
if we somehow turn into a top 10-15 team our players are going to have their share of things to market themselves with. Even if it’s nit straight money form an appearance or a commercial, they will be able to get deals on things and it will be legal.

This would have meant Shapiro's case got thrown out. I bet the guy is screaming at his TV in prison. Finally, let's put this stuff above table.

Goodbye Miami football, you'll never be back. It was nice when it happened, but this will crush anyone besides the bigs.

The main reason CA can set precedent such as this is because they have the WORLD's 5th largest economy and a 10th of the population of the US. It'll be interesting to see if/when other states adopt similar policies. I don't think it's over. The NCAA will fight this tooth and nail. Whether or not CA is willing to go up against the NCAA and it's war chest is yet to be seen.

Football players will be able to "earn" money from their images, likenesses, etc. after they've started their careers in the school of their choice. The way it may effect recruiting is the bag schools may have to pay even more for top players; especially if said school is in a smaller market; ie Baga, Clem$on, OK, etc.

When it comes to CFB, California is an afterthought. They absolutely do not move the needle. Hopefully the rest of the NCAA institutions simply tell CA to F-OFF and watch how quickly CA reverses course.

They can’t ban California schools from competing it violates the anti trust laws. NCAA would be fighting a losing battle and they know it. They only have one option at this point.

Also, nothing in the law says a player has to wait until after they've started their careers in the school of their choice.

Alabama is the poorest state in America. Half the state is nothing but trailer parks and klan rallies. They already pumping every dollar they got in to that program.

Big markets gonna clean up and that includes Miami
I am no fan of our neighbor state to the north, but this is factually inaccurate.

Good. I think I saw something awhile where New York proposed passing some chit where all student athletes get equal pay...which idk how that would go. Cause football players then like....University of Brockport basketball or whatever the fuq they have

It's a start in the right direction tho. Miss me with that "duuuuur they gets a scholarship!!" These ******* schools rake money from these kids.

I'm not sure that it really makes much difference. If the law, as applied, didn't allow them to profit until after signing, then promises are still made. If the law offers them an immediate chance to profit, nothing really changes except they now can have an open revenue stream.

This is the beginning of the end for Alabama, and all of the hick-*** schools that are currently on top.

They won't be able to compete.

Schools in big city markets are going to clean up
Wont stop Bama there players are already being paid and that's just for coming to Bama.

Nothing more dangerous than an 18 year old allowed to run wild in south Florida with fat stacks in their bank.

Not true at all.

uhmm its not the school thats gonna be paying the athletes so im not sure how alabamas revenue is that relevant to this.

Im assuming that now that they will be allowed to make money they will viewed as employees.. meaning that will be taxed along with scholarships as well im thinking .

Its also the reason why pro basketball players gravitate to the largest media markets (NY, LA, Chicago) even though the max contract amount is the same for all teams. They want the endorsement opportunities. Miami is the 16th largest media market. If you add the West Palm and Miami media markets together, it's the 7th or 8th largest in the country.
