It's Official: California to let college athletes make money, defying NCAA

Curious who makes off like a bandit off this???

Texas
ND
UGA
Michigan
OSU
Oregon

I mean if the school is able to use money made from the program couldn’t they just shut down all the non revenue generating sports and keep it simple with football basketball and baseball only with a mirroring female sport for title 9??

I mean I think we could have a healthy roster of players who could receive payment from us and be able to stay home still... plus you can snitch out other schools easier now since your allowed to pay to a point

This whole time we’re all talking about how Miami fits into this. But this is bigger than football it takes hard work to get to D1 only for the school you attend to make millions off of the athlete and build new buildings because of the athlete and they can’t make a dime off of it

Title IX makes it so they cant shut down those other sports.

This will have a much bigger impact on basketball than football. Can you imagine the corruption in the shoe game if they’re allowed to sign deals when they get to college? Nike is gonna be paying kids all throughout high school to funnel them to their schools and promise them millions once they sign

Its also the reason why pro basketball players gravitate to the largest media markets (NY, LA, Chicago) even though the max contract amount is the same for all teams. They want the endorsement opportunities. Miami is the 16th largest media market. If you add the West Palm and Miami media markets together, it's the 7th or 8th largest in the country.
After we smashed Notre Dame we dominated the media everyone in the country knew about the turnover chain. Malik Rosier could’ve had at least 5 deals after that game

While I totally understand those that believe this is good for us (and it might be), I think it just legalizes bags for the big state schools or schools that have a few huge backers (Oregon, etc.). So for example, every Bama player can get a free car from Satan's dealership in exchange for having their picture at the dealership.

The fans of college football (i.e., the people who are the source of all the money the system makes) don't care about the athletes. They care about their favorite school. Yes, the players have some economic value in the system, but the overwhelming majority of the economic value comes from the school logos. That's why you could take the top 500 high school football players every year and put them in an actual minor league, and that minor league wouldn't make a dime, while CFB would still be raking in the dough.

They can sign deals in high school. Nothing about this law limits them to only signing deals after they get in college.

Am I mistaken that the rule is always you have to have 1:1 male to female sports?

1:1 on number of scholarship, not number of sports. That's why there are more women's sports at any given university in order to make up for the large scholarship numbers in football.

@Canesince02 what specifically about this post do you disagree with?
