Heupel to Tennessee

Beggars can’t be choosy. Tennessee is a disaster right now. The best players on the team all hit the portal: most already at a new team. The extent of sanctions still unknown. Their admin tried to save $12 mill buyout to Pruitt and threw themselves under the bus.

no one of any standing wanted that job. Word is Tony Elliott gave it the most consideration and opted to stay at Clemson. Maybe he surfaces as a name for HC at UCF

Steele wanted the job, no?

Honestly surprised it took so long for this hire. Figured White would want a coach he has a history with to try and rebuild the program.

I think Heupel is a good X’s and O’s coach. He knows offense and quarterbacks. I wouldn’t have an issue if he was Miami’s OC. His issue isn’t in field, it’s all the other intangibles that a good head coach needs. He’s not a good recruiter and his assistant coaching hires have been meh. He inherited a really strong team but didn’t really improve the overall program. They’re just another G5 program with decent talent that usually scores a lot but has crappy defense every year. They never made the push to compete with the state’s big 3 like a lot of people thought they would.
