Heupel to Tennessee

Figured they'd hire Heupel, though I do think they should've kept Steele as the interim this year, and swing for the fences for a guy like Campbell after the season's over.

And many think we got HC hiring issues

Kiffen
Dooley
Jones
Pruitt
Heupel.

LMAO. The Vol nation will be cryin’ in their beer.
And the really sad part is, that list of bums is still better coaches then the ones we hired in that same time frame. Smh Miami hiring puts the R in Corch, that’s for sure!

Beggars can’t be choosy. Tennessee is a disaster right now. The best players on the team all hit the portal: most already at a new team. The extent of sanctions still unknown. Their admin tried to save $12 mill buyout to Pruitt and threw themselves under the bus.

no one of any standing wanted that job. Word is Tony Elliott gave it the most consideration and opted to stay at Clemson. Maybe he surfaces as a name for HC at UCF
maybe but 2021 signing class was still top 20. i don't understand the hire. the guy made UCF worse and the guy that made UCF good isn't doing well at Nebraska.

Win for UCF here. They are getting something like $6M in buyout money from TN for both the AD and HC. Nice bit of change to bring in a solid coach.
I think that’s premature to say...depends on who they bring in as AD and HC. If they plan on going after any established coach, they themselves will have to pay a buyout. Or...they promote Radio...don’t think that’s a win in any way. Guess we gotta see the end result before actually calling it a W for them.

Dude is a decent coach.
But this is just damage control considering the possible but not likely sanctions on Tennessee.
Just like Golden had problems landing kids with that shadow of an ncaa investigation, UTK was not gonna land a top tier coach.
If the ncaa slaps the wrists and they keep recruiting well Huepl may luck out and win a nice bunch of games and White looks like a genius.
If the penalties are minor they at least got a decent coach who’s buyout won’t be a poison pill.
Win win for Huepl. He can use the ncaa sanctions as an excuse (valid) and he adds being a head coach a premiere sec school to his resume. And likely cashes out on the new contract and the buyout.

Really? Kiffen screwed them by leaving in 12 months. Dooley was 4-17 in conference play. Butch Jones was 14-24. Pruitt has them heading to major sanctions. They draw 95k per game and have resources. Absolutely inexcusable they are not at least in top 3 every year in the SEC East.

Heupel getting hired means alot of bigger names turn down the job. Also Tennessee is a dead end job. Kids transfering left and right, recruiting violations, will be under NCAA microscope. If Heupel in 3 years has a winning record it would be impressive.

solid coach ... SEC is alot tougher than AAC tho
