? For those who say, "coaches can't let X recruit get away"

Find it hard to believe that this thread was started because of the words on twitter of the same guy who said the coaches should offer Michel's UMass playing older brother because he believed he was a BCS caliber WR. He didn't say do it to just to secure Sony. He said it because he believed Marken Michel was a Miami-level WR.

Never Forget. Never Forget.

This is the 2nd year in a row we lose the best player in south Florida. Its time to change how you recruit. Imagine if Coley and Barrow were not here carrying this class.

Stacey coley came here?

Matt Thomas was considered the best player in south Florida. Ahead of Coley and Collins who we also lost but that was do his lame coach.

Who is the better player so far in their college careers, Coley or MT?

When the best player in the state plays HS football 2 blocks from your campus, and he goes elsewhere, it's a failure. There's no such thing as trying hard enough. There are no participation trophies. It doesn't get simpler than that.

What if the kid WANTS to go away? The best college I got into was NYU but it was about the last place I wanted to go because I grew up 15 minutes from it and wanted to go away for college. A LOT of kids want to go away for school, football players included.

Apparently if the kid doesn't want to come here the coach has to kidnap him otherwise he's a failure.

I know. If he had come here would MT have won a game for us like Coley did this year? I know MT was higher rated but he could end up not being a star at all. We KNOW Coley is going to be a star.

what position did you play in college, bomb?

Baseball, soccer and track! Only played club football because my school didn't field a team.

But I'm just talking about kids. Sometimes kids want to go away for school. Football, basketball, science, history. Doesn't matter. Sometimes being the local school actually hurts. Not making excuses, let's all be adult. But it's reality.
Cook is staying in state. That means he's only going a few hours away.

Tallahassee and Gainesville are going away. Different city away from home. This isn't debatable. ****, the state of Florida is so big that a Miami kid going to FSU is the same geographically as a kid from Virginia going to Boston College. But you know this. Come on man.

Sure.

However, the last three head coaches had too many local players leave. There is a thin line between the normal number of recruits leaving because they want to play elsewhere and not getting the job done. Between losing top kids, misplaying the recruitment of tier two players, and poorly evaluating other local players, the last three coaches just aren't getting it done. There are too many players in South Florida to make an excuse out of players just going elsewhere. Matthew Thomas goes to FSU, you should have Skai Moore. Miami ended up with neither of them and now we're playing Thurston Armbrister and Jimmy Gaines. Too many similar scenarios over the course of the past decade to just dismiss it as "welp, some kids just like going elsewhere!"...there are plenty of them that do, or need convincing to, that are there for the taking.

Miami will always have a certain number of elite players. They had them even during the 60's and 70's. But, depth is just not there and there isn't enough elite players to compete at a high level in the 2000's. Misevaluating and poorly overplaying their hand has done more to hinder the current status of the program then missing out on the token number of recruits that just want to get out of town.

Yes, I agree. We have to keep more home and get our share. But every Miami coach has lost local kids. Howard, butch, etc. Really need a list of FSU greats from South Florida who went there when we were winning championships?

It's the staffs job to recruit a winning team. But You can't obsess about one player. Especially when we have an excellent class at his position coming in.

**** Saban, or god as people think of him here, lost a local kid names jameis Winston to FSU last year. But they got enough. Look at our current commitment class, recruited with the NCAA on our necks, and tell me you have a problem with how were recurring right now?

Look at how well Stacy Coley is doing in our offense, now ask yourself how much it would've hurt to see what Stacy Coley is doing but in a Gold and Garnett uniform.

If Miami lets Cook go to either FSU or UF, it's a failure plain and simple. Cook is the best offensive player I've ever seen next to Amari Cooper in high school. There's is no "Oh well, at least you tried excuse" for players like him. Just think about it, if Cook goes to FSU, your going to have to deal with him for at least 3 years in an already prolific offense.

Yes, every Miami coach has lost kids. I understand that it happens. But, the list is becoming longer then it should under the last three coaches. I don't focus on one or two, but there is a clear trend of making an excuse for one yielding an excuse for ten more. These "excellent" recruiting classes have found a way to not be all they are cracked up to be over the last decade so, I'll wait to see how they turn out once they get here.

Can't argue with that. Like i said, we have to get our share. Certainly seems like we're doing that this year.

See this stuff every year. I think the only time I didn't see it was during Duke's year because he was a lock. Every **** year some guy talks about how you can't lose this one or that one because he is the greatest player I've ever seen. Before this season Lane was better than Stacy Coley. When you start touting defensive tackles and rush ends as the best player you've ever seen I'll take what is being said seriously. That is something clearly lacking on this roster. I'll wait until I hear about the next greatest RB or WR when next year rolls around.

Yep. It's a failure if he does not go to UM.

This. You need players like Cook to win the title.

Football is about results. There is no "try." I don't care if a recruit fell in Goldens lap or if he tried like ****. Makes no difference to me. All I care about is who actually signed on that dotted line.

What's more... A player like Cook is from South Florida born and raised. If he doesn't go to the U, it's got to be because there's something about the program he doesn't like.

If you allow the best player from Dade/Broward to leave 2 years in a row, that means you have a problem.

We can't keep allowing the elite kids to leave South Florida. That's what it boils down to.

Now watch FSU win the national championship and while you're choking down the tears ask yourself how they did it. By punching in back to back to back #1 rated recruiting classes.

#23 rated class, #8 rated class, etc ain't gonna get us to where we want to be.

This class is good, but we need a couple more playmakers in it and then we need to turn right around and sign another top 5 class in 2015.

Nobody said it was easy but that's what needs to happen to win a title. That's what FSU did, that's what Bama does, that's what we need to do. Get it done Al.

It would be a tragedy, but NOT a Failure. Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp? If the staff is doing all it can do, then its not a failure. All these stupid examples like "if you studied for the test", yes, but that is an example where the result was in YOUR hands. This is a choice being made by a kid, it is NOT in our hands. All we can do is make every effort to woo the kid and try to convince him and his family. IF we do that, and he still bolts, what else can we have done? Is it a failure? No, its a tragedy. Its a shame.

This isnt a case where we blew it and offered the kid late, or didnt offer at all, or insisted in making him play a position he didnt want to play. We have done everything we can do in recruiting him. In the end, if he choses to leave because he just DOES NOT want to be here, that is nothing the staff can be faulted for. Unless you are suggesting they should be handing the kid a duffel bag of money. The choice is NOT up to our coaches. The result is not one which we control Coaches talk to the kid every **** day. He's got teammates trying to recruit him here. Weve been all over the kid longer than anyone.

It makes zero rational sense, but if we flip Cook, I no longer care we lost to VT and Duke and am excited for next year. Add Dixon and Jackson and Golden's lifetime extension was worth it.

In the real world, you're judged on results, not how hard you try. Nobody cares about "try."

Golden either gets the 5 stars or he doesn't. He either succeeds or fails.

Would be a **** of a class, wouldn't it? Look man, these are local kids, they should be going to Miami. No excuses.

Dude that is ridiculous. There can be 1000 reasons why they kid may not want to come here. He might just want to leave home. A LOT of kids want to get the **** away from home when they turn 18, especially when going away to college. Maybe he's a front runner, who thinks FSU is the place to be, rather than Miami where we are still rebuilding. Maybe he's getting paid. There are a slew of reasons why the kid may want to leave. Doesnt mean "there is something he doesnt like about the program".
