Facility upgrades

For the “Facilities Don’t Matter, Bro” crowd, what u’re forced to do is step into the 21st century of collegiate athletics. I’m pretty sure our facilities will be a multiplex, primarily for football, but student athlete friendly.

Again I’ll repeat; while some were pushing for Sleezy Tom, logical fans/alum was pushing for Rad. Highly successful AD w/ hardware to match, that’s an alum?! C’mon.

Lotta chit will be changing around here; u’re talking about a HC that was apart of our glory years, then exposed to a modern day football factory in Bama, & coached at FacilityU at UO + an AD who worked at the 2nd known Football Factory over the past 8 yrs, that’s also known for facilities. What did u think was going to happen? Our brand will be restored, after yrs of tainting from **** poor coaches + suck *** ADs.

Man, I can’t wait. We been suffering way too long.
But but but but we should have went after lane…….

They've had some moderate success several years in the tourney but never won a championship. The business guy inside of me says if it's not self-sustaining, it doesn't win championships, it should be killed, but you have to have a decent balance of women's sports to round out the university (outside of Title requirements), that's important in it's own way. You have to strike a balance but also remember who the cash cow is.

I am really excited to see how they will utilize the space. Maybe relocating Cobb Stadium/Field to Yaron Field in a multi purpose type area? **** these last 18 years of being a mediocre ACC team has taken years off my life, glad we are seeing some real changes!
No sports besides football and basketball at some schools are self sustaining….

IM fields. It's definitely a potential location to expand, but now you're taking away from general student activities.
True, but couldn't they use part of that space and turn the plot behind West Lab into additional IM fields?

I mean, they could, but now they're on the complete opposite side of campus from the Wellness Center, which is where IM's run out of, so wouldn't make as much sense. I think you could better justify a softball facility if you potentially put coach/admin offices over there, similar to basketball and, to a lesser degree, baseball.

Yep, and the business person inside of me says kill them because they are drains, (talking about outside of Title 9). But then you would have nothing, that's what I mean about it being good for the school even though it's a money loser.

At the end of the day you have make decisions to be compliant, but you put the cash cow first in every decision. In this discussion that means facilities for football. Not that you leave those sports behind, but you have to take a football first approach, and that makes everything else in the end successful because it will continue to build the brand, resources and the school.

Maybe we can build parking garages and recapture space to relocate IM Fields, which keeps the Athletic complex contiguous. So Football and Admin expands to where Cobb is and Cobb is relocated to the IM Fields.

In order to keep green space they will have to anyway eventually.

Mario made comments about building up due to limited space, forgot which interview he said that in. But it's really the only option, building up and reclaiming some of the pavement area's with parking garages.

I agree building up is the best option (if Coral Gables allows it). But that's better for offices, workout spaces, etc. A little more complicated with fields. Volleyball would be easiest to go up, but wouldn't be that big of a net gain from a footprint standpoint. I mean, if they want to go crazy and put a soccer facility on the roof, that'd definitely be out there.

Does anyone know if students use intermural fields much other than for sunbathing? It was pretty inconsistent when I was there. Hard to take away those away from the normal student population if they are being used.

To me, it'd be a lot easier to relocate Greek row right across the street. Build or buyout some locals homes that they feel is an upgrade and then build a shiny new soccer/track facility right across the street.
Yes, the intramural fields are used every day. Club sports use them. I'd suspect you are looking at backside of M-P or around Granada. I think Tropical Park or Melreese must be in play to pull this off.

I was probably short term bias, but I definitely wanted Lane over Mario. However, having seen the long term plan, it’s impressive af. I hope the Lane supporters/people who ***** about everything give Mario time. This dude has a plan, and it’s going to take time. We might not be great in the next two years, but we will be within the next five

Alignment across the University is another message. Mario and Rad appear to be the right combination to both compliment and challenge each other. They will have the answers to the questions of “what do you need to be successful?”. And they will also have the vision and ability to explain that vision to the keep the University aligned.

When it is said things will be relocated, the U is looking at the “property” as a whole, what is being underutilized, etc. and improving the whole **** thing.

The project upcoming may be $500M type money. Not $30M type money.
