Facility upgrades

Build one skyscraper to house all the classes . The rest of the campus is now available for multiple athletic facilities. Problem solved! Coral Gables may disagree so hands will need to be greased. All you need is a little vision. Every Major wil be sport's relalated.

I just hope we aren’t missing the big picture again like we have the last 20 years. Facilities were big when that was a differentiator for kids because all things considered they weren’t getting paid. Now with NIL, how important are facilities when one school is paying you twice as much in NIL? It’s akin to the NFL. You never hear a free agent talking about a teams facilities. I am all for top of the line facilities, but we need to be smart with our spending and maximize for the future state of college football.
This is exactly what I was thinking

Can’t wait to see Rad and Mario’s vision unfold and for renderings to become public during the donation period to support the facilities upgrade project. It will be interesting to hear the price tag, this had to have been promised to Mario prior to him signing on the dotted line. And I’m sure some other programs besides the football team will benefit from the improvements being discussed across the board. I seriously doubt Mario wouldn’t include others in this new multiplex.

62-64 million is the number I was told.

That’s a lot of slides. 👀

I promise u, I’m not coming at u. U make a reasonable point, but u’re missing a big element:

It doesn’t have to be either or. Texas A&M have ridiculous facilities, & they also have a ridiculous NIL situation. Bama has outstanding facilities, & they also have a strong NIL program.

Pls understand, NFL teams heavily invest in their facilities, & believe it or not, that does play a role in FA. Some guys are geared towards money, but there’s a good majority that want the money ANNNND go to a stable team b/c they want to win. I can tell u as we speak the LA Chargers r in the midst of building a revolutionary sports complex not too far from the stadium. I can tell u that when The Rams owner built his stadium, he wanted it to be a center piece for entertainment & attract FA’s.

These guys r spending majority of their playing careers in facilities, so yes eye candy matter. But just remember, companies who r getting involved w/ these NILs want to be associated w/ winners. They r looking to profit off this, too. Rad’s job is to eliminate as many recruiting obstacles as possibles, while making this school attractive to one’s who want to invest.

Just like I preached we don’t have to be “E before W”, we can have both; in like manner we don’t have to choose upgrading facilities or NIL, we can do both.

Literally just talking about this at work.
Problem is that the nil schools also have nice facilities.
Tamu has had several upgrades the last few years.
The approach has to be from the top all the way down. It’s not just bags and nil.
This recruiting thing is all encompassing. There is communication with high school kids from former players and even active nfl players. These kids talk to each other. A player considering a school talks to players actively in the team.
These kids are comparing everything and taking everything into account.
Even a transfer like Agude was talking to JP and Roche.
Mario and Rad know they’re gonna have to bring it if they want to go against these schools.

Wish I scrolled down before responding this same QP. U’re spot on bro.

Mario probably couldn't care less about the other sports, just like Saban couldn't care less about the other sports. Football drives the bus, and most high end coaches only care about their own individual programs. It is what it is.

Does anyone know if students use intermural fields much other than for sunbathing? It was pretty inconsistent when I was there. Hard to take away those away from the normal student population if they are being used.

To me, it'd be a lot easier to relocate Greek row right across the street. Build or buyout some locals homes that they feel is an upgrade and then build a shiny new soccer/track facility right across the street.
Yes, students do use those fields. Not only for IM athletics, but for other purposes. Lots of informal pickup soccer games and football games are played there.

Can we have both? I’m not sure on the financing. Assuming we have the money, by all means do both. If we have some limitations, than evaluate where best to spend capital. Capital solicited from donors for facilities may mean less capital from those same donors for NIL.

If you listen to the CBS Sports Cover 3 podcast they'd tell you the opposite. NFL players tend to do a lot of off-season workouts on their own dime and away from team facilities. ****, the Steelers and Pitt share a training facility (the only NFL team to do so I'll admit). Facilities mean much more in college as "a show of commitment to bettering the athlete" than it does in the professional world.

U’re talking about off season, when they are away from their teams. Brethren, I would see Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh, & Steve Smith all the time running at the sand dunes in Manhattan Beach in the off season. The Hill Walter Payton ran in the off season was in Arlington Heights. As we speak Justin Fields is working off site.

I’m talking in-season, off season is a totally different animal. Yes, The Steelers r sharing a facility w/ Pitt, but that’s an anomaly. The Bears, a notoriously cheap franchise upgraded & renovated their facilities to step into the 21st century. The Rams are about to build a new facility. The Raiders just built a fresh new facility. Etc, etc.

I'm curious how Colorado's facility will affect their recruting. I think they have the most expensive facility in college at around $150mill that they built around the time Mel Tucker went there.

To just toss out some #'s, Florida's is $85 million and Auburn's is $91 million.
If we actually want the "biggest and best" in CFB, they're gonna need around 200 mill or more. And I say that cause they're not only going to need to construct a new facility...no way. They're going to need to construct an expansive state of the art football complex incorporated into the existing facilities that have also been extensively upgraded, if they really want "biggest and best". It shouldn't be a 2 year, build a stand alone structure, fix. It should be like a multi-phase, 10 year evolution. Im not talking only moving the soccer and track and field, but I'm talking fully reconstructing existing facilities as to where we have the largest and most lavish, most cohesive and best functioning football complex in the country. The fact we dont have an on campus stadium like the actual biggest and best facilities, should also be a reason to go more all in on this idea. Most programs that go through this process spend hundreds of millions on renovating their stadium. Well, we don't have one, so ideally we would need to spend more than usual on our football facilities and go even more over the top on this idea to really make an impression on recruits nation wide and the entire CFB landscape.

So let’s do it.

Not sure, as facilities is only one part of the pie, but nonetheless still a piece of the pie.
