Facility upgrades

For the “Facilities Don’t Matter, Bro” crowd, what u’re forced to do is step into the 21st century of collegiate athletics. I’m pretty sure our facilities will be a multiplex, primarily for football, but student athlete friendly.

Again I’ll repeat; while some were pushing for Sleezy Tom, logical fans/alum was pushing for Rad. Highly successful AD w/ hardware to match, that’s an alum?! C’mon.

Lotta chit will be changing around here; u’re talking about a HC that was apart of our glory years, then exposed to a modern day football factory in Bama, & coached at FacilityU at UO + an AD who worked at the 2nd known Football Factory over the past 8 yrs, that’s also known for facilities. What did u think was going to happen? Our brand will be restored, after yrs of tainting from **** poor coaches + suck *** ADs.

Man, I can’t wait. We been suffering way too long.
Minnesota built an Athlete’s Village which caters to all the athletes on campus. Hopefully they build something similar and it helps benefit all the programs.

I would think someone like Rad has that planned out already. He's done some big time facilities at GT and Clemson, so it's not his first rodeo. Track coach Amy Deem is pretty well known, so I doubt she would sit there saying nothing there wasn't a plan to upgrade her facilities as well.
You are right. I am just curious where a track and a soccer field could be added? I think we're pretty tight on space to begin with.

There's a women's team. No men's team.
If there is legit talk about adding women's softball, I would not be surprised to see men's soccer follow since we'd be more Title IX compliant, particularly if a new soccer/track facility is built (assuming the talk of taking over the current one is accurate). Would be outstanding buzz for the program and would help build the women's team as well.

UM needs a mens golf team. It is insane that UM doesn't have mens golf being in one of the most golf centric states in the country.

They've had some moderate success several years in the tourney but never won a championship. The business guy inside of me says if it's not self-sustaining, it doesn't win championships, it should be killed, but you have to have a decent balance of women's sports to round out the university (outside of Title requirements), that's important in it's own way. You have to strike a balance but also remember who the cash cow is.

I am really excited to see how they will utilize the space. Maybe relocating Cobb Stadium/Field to Yaron Field in a multi purpose type area? **** these last 18 years of being a mediocre ACC team has taken years off my life, glad we are seeing some real changes!

Agreed. Should be on the list as well. It all comes down to balance with Title IX. Because football has 85 scholarships and has no women's complement like basketball, tennis, etc, it means men's teams get cut. That's why you have women's sports only in golf, volleyball, soccer, swimming and diving, and particularly crew. It's unfortunately part of the "unintended results" of government regulation. Yes, it's helped women's sports, but it has hurt several men's sports at the same time.

If we can get a softball team in here, it now balances baseball out. That would allow for women's soccer to have more of a complement; aka, men's soccer. Right now baseball and women's soccer balance each other out.

Obviously we are going to need more space. Any ideas about where? I know he's committed to advancing all programs, so I think there is probably good things coming for track and field and soccer as well.

Does anyone know if students use intermural fields much other than for sunbathing? It was pretty inconsistent when I was there. Hard to take away those away from the normal student population if they are being used.

To me, it'd be a lot easier to relocate Greek row right across the street. Build or buyout some locals homes that they feel is an upgrade and then build a shiny new soccer/track facility right across the street.

The thing is, with title IX, you have to spend equal scholarship money on the women's sports so adding men's golf would require equal scholarships on the women's side which could be done. It makes no sense that Miami doesn't have a women's softball team either. Meanwhile Florida and FSU are at the top of women's softball.

Does UM own that plot of land on Ponce & Granada right behind the West Lab school?

The Coral Gables residents might raise **** if a field were moved there but space-wise it works.

Rad built Clemson’s softball team from the ground up. I’m sure he saw the potential moneymaker that team can be for women’s sports. I really hope they add one in the near future.

Maybe we can build parking garages and recapture space to relocate IM Fields, which keeps the Athletic complex contiguous. So Football and Admin expands to where Cobb is and Cobb is relocated to the IM Fields.

The IM field is likely an option. I'm not sure how often it is used and over what time period, but yeah, it does get use for the IM sports. There is probably enough space there to put a soccer field but still leave significant space for IM use.

I was thinking about that space, too. Could potentially be a good softball field location. Not sure if a soccer facility would fit.

Isn't there a huge field north of Hecht on San Amaro?
