Don't want Mario, boatraced by Utah?

Fair point. This place overrates many many coaches - there is a solid list including Babers, Fuente, etc. etc. Campbell is likely on it. Row the Boat guy. My fear — Mario belongs on that list but we don’t see it, because, well Miami guy.
See that fear is well understood. Just remember that Mario would be walking into an ACC without Kenny Pickett or sam Howell in it and with TVD as easily the best returning starter. Road games against Texas A&M and Clemson on the schedule next year just add to the drama

Wait..........where these players recruited by a different coach prior to his arrival? If yes then there is merit to your alternate theory. But if he recruited and developed all those "horrible" players then your theory is more of an indictment on his coaching ability than only poor game preparation and management.

He has been there since 2017 and HC since 2018, not?

this is my issue, 4th year coach with all his players and they get dismantled against utah

Talent ran into coaching

The PAC-12 is trash, so the concerns remain. We were told FSU is way better off than we are, so that is another formidable rival foe. Given how far they are ahead. Mario is staring at 3 losses already on the schedule. Add a “Mario special” he has every year and that is 4….. Not loving that….

I largely think we are on the same page here.

I am just thoroughly amused by the mental gymnastics here rationalizing Mario and some of the similar concerns he brings that we’ve faced for years. USC was a long time ago. Rehabbed by the school of Saban. Willing to give Lane’s offense a chance. Willing to give Mario a chance to stack the roster and adapt.
Exactly. This is like the Tate v Jarren v Kosi battle all over again.

You can make an argument for or against any if them. I'm going to defer to our next AD, who is hopefully Tom Jurich.

If that is our AD, I am happy to get on board, sit back and let it roll.

Beat Jimbo the CIS gawd. I wish Lane had a better track record to show he was a sure bet. No sure bets in coaching. Mario is also said to need a good DC, and a good OC. Loses games he should not.

Let’s get one of the 3 in here and start rolling.
I think ultimately the admins willingness to remove head from ******* is more important. The monetary investment trumps everything else but we need to knock the next three weeks out of the park. Our purgatory has been long enough.

There are no "Nick Saban" type hires.

I like the following really intrigue me:

Luke Fickell
James Franklin

Both of these coaches have done more with less.

Mario Cristobal

I think he would crush recruiting but would need to go out and hire a beastly DC

Billy Napier
Jamey Chadwell

If we want to go the "up and comer route"

Hypothetical NFL Route

Eric Beiniemy + Will Muschamp (keeps T Rob)

I do not think Lane Kiffin is an answer. I know enough backstory on this guy from individuals who worked with him personally to know he would be chasing ***** more than coaching. JMHO. Is he an upgrade over Manny? 100%. Miami throwing out 30 million is not for a Lane Kiffin type hire. They are thinking bigger.

Exciting and nervous times. Do not **** this up UM BOT.

You know what? That is a great question and I don’t know. Probably yea.

Similar to my feelings about Kiffin, but my concern with him is he tends to rub people the wrong way and he doesn’t stay long in any one place.

I just think some of the best coaches are those guys that can’t win it because of where they are at but get the most out of their talent…OK States and IA States of the world…Baylor’s of the world…

They have also been there a while demonstrating loyalty.

Unlike some others on this board, I do think this is home for Mario so he wouldn’t leave for the next best gig.
I like Kiffin. But, yeah he’s chasing the next big gig. Like Mario, as a HC and premiere recruiter. If it’s Mario, needs to bring in OC with wide open offense. And, a DC with a proven D scheme and that can coach up our talent to their potential. Mario needs to be the administrator of his program and delegate his vision to his staff. A Staff of hungry coaches looking at their future. THEY need to be the coaches sought after and leaving, not the HC. Like Clemson and Alabama. Stability at the top, the HC and AD, replacing young asst’s not getting replaced. That said Winning makes all this easier. #NATIONLIFER🙌🏽

Yep. Only comment on Franklin - PSU fans want him out every year when he corches away games. His wins like football Duke, acts like he wins like basketball Duke attitude would wear thin in weeks here I think.

  1. even if mario's ceiling here is the same as at oregon - favorite to get into the conference championship each year & in contention for a playoff bid through the last couple weeks of the season once every few years - he's an easy take right now. at the very least we need to get the program on the right track: ace recruiting and competing for the conference championship year in and out. we need to build the program back now, something we haven't done for nearly 20 years, save for a year or two with richt (maybe).
  2. i think many are underestimating how much a guy like mario could accomplish here. see: how we nearly won a championship with ace recruiter and talent evaluator and awful gameday coach butch davis as our guy. we get talent here, create a culture of hard work and accountability, and we're likely to see a repeat of past player-led successes like in '01.
with that being said, we should aim to cast a wide net and see what shakes out. off the top of my head i'd be fine if we hired mario, kiffin, arranda, leach, stoops, and probably a couple of other guys who aren't coming to mind right now. but if mario says, "i'll come but we need to lock this up in a week or two," then i'm fine with hiring him for aforementioned reasons.

Honestly those Pedo cultists opinions mean next to nothing to me.

They legitimately still think Paterno is a hero.

I get it. I just happen to see the meltdown from friends up that way every year. If Wisconsin was not so inept game one, Franklin would have been on the hot seat. I also wonder if he is also a “is he going to jump guy” that we are worried about vs. long timer here —but I don’t really care about that…. If they are good enough to get stolen because of success here, then we will be fine.

Any coach/ team can have 1 game where nothing falls right for them. Saban/Alabama lost a NC to Clemson in 2081 44-16. So it happens.
What has to be viewed is the totality of the candidates resume and not just one individual game here and there.

meanwhile, stanford has lost 6 straight since beating oregon. they're 3-8 with progressively worse losses heading into their last game against nd.
Oregon got completely Fcked on that PI call. Also they played that game without their OC as he was rushed to the ER right before the game.
