Don't want Mario, boatraced by Utah?

I think ultimately the admins willingness to remove head from ******* is more important. The monetary investment trumps everything else but we need to knock the next three weeks out of the park. Our purgatory has been long enough.

There are no "Nick Saban" type hires.

I like the following really intrigue me:

Luke Fickell
James Franklin

Both of these coaches have done more with less.

Mario Cristobal

I think he would crush recruiting but would need to go out and hire a beastly DC

Billy Napier
Jamey Chadwell

If we want to go the "up and comer route"

Hypothetical NFL Route

Eric Beiniemy + Will Muschamp (keeps T Rob)

I do not think Lane Kiffin is an answer. I know enough backstory on this guy from individuals who worked with him personally to know he would be chasing ***** more than coaching. JMHO. Is he an upgrade over Manny? 100%. Miami throwing out 30 million is not for a Lane Kiffin type hire. They are thinking bigger.

Exciting and nervous times. Do not **** this up UM BOT.

i honestly do not understand the love/hype for james franklin. penn state's sanctions were lifted in 2014 so it's not like he's hamstrung by postseason bans or scholarship reductions.

If people are really gonna complain about Christobal and Kiffin who the **** do you want? Lol

Most names mentioned on this board huge upgrades over No D Manny. I do not have a favorite. Just get rid of the present cancer and hope we hit it right on the next hire

Agreed…the arguing over this guy or that guy is comical…

Presently, the University of Miami has a Buffoon leading the Defense and overall team! Anyone with a decent resume is a major upgrade!

The goal should be to hire the best available coach, not merely finding an upgrade over Manny.

Come on now, he isn't that good. Read this article, it spells out some eerily similar deficiencies, right down to clock management. I don't think we're being honest with ourselves about who he is and where he sits on the CFB spectrum.
What kind of extension do you think he signs with Oregon if he stays?

He’s also getting paid $1 million by Phil Knight.

Underrated question

I go back to the premise that UM just can't help itself when it comes to evaluating its needs. Yes, there is a culture in there somewhere that is unique, but you don't get that back by always trying to get the band back together. Again, I read things like this from the Oregon faithful, and the shortcomings are eerily familiar. He's been a HC too long to just gloss over this. It doesn't mean he isn't a good hire, but I don't think you let yourself get turnaround and inside out at the behest of evaluating alternatives, just because he asks you. He isn't that type of hire, IMO.

There are some tough questions requiring answers that can no longer be avoided. Why wasn’t Oregon ready for this game? Why couldn’t the Ducks stop the Utes’ run? Why didn’t the Ducks’ offense take a knee with 30 seconds left in the first half, trailing 21-0? Is Oregon quarterback Anthony Brown really the team’s best chance to win each week? It seems an exercise in futility to drone on about the same old issues we’ve heard all season. Honestly, they’re probably all true.

No run game. Questionable coaching. Inconsistent defense. Lackluster special teams (on both sides of the ball, including a missed field goal and allowing a punt return for a touchdown right before halftime). Nothing gelled. Nothing worked. If you really want to look at the stats, check them out here.

Starting to really lose faith in the coaching decisions of Cristobal. With the amount of talent and resources at his disposal the score should have been flipped. Every year now we skate by teams we should pulverize, head scratching penalties, and amazing recruits that don’t develop."

it's not familiar sounding

Anyone who watches Oregon knows this is a problem. Only people here that are led by prominent posters(whatever that really means) want to ignore it. Then they'll try to turn it into that perfect coach crap with "I only want a coach who never loses". As if that is what people are talking about.

He doesn’t “constantly lose.” He usually wins. That’s why his career at Oregon looks like this:

2018: 9-4 (inherited a 7-6 team)
2019: 12-2 (won Rose Bowl, Top 5)
2020: 4-3 (weird Covid year, Pac12 champ)
2021: Incomplete. 9-2 with three games left.

Mario is not the same candidate he was in 2018. He’s won a lot of games and built a consistent recruiting power.

Is he the best candidate? Who knows. There are a lot of names with upside.

But there is a reason Mario would be so expensive. And it’s not because he has Miami ties.
DMoney keeping it real as always.

One I wouldn't want UM touching with a 10 foot pole for him.

I am literally watching the Utah DVR now, and it's clear as day. Is he a top 25 HC? Sure, I wouldn't debate that at all, but is he elite? Absolutely not, he just isn't.

Elite coaches lose games, too, I get that, but to a 3-7 Stanford team, and then also struggle with Cal and then get dismantled by Utah in the same season? No, they do not.

This board killed Manny over clock management issues and poor tackling, and I am literally watching his squad do the same **** thing.

His QB is bad, I get that, too, but he has no accountability for that? I'm not going to get into the Herbert thing, but Jordan Scott, a former DL had some pretty scathing observations about that era.

So, no, I don't think you sell out for him and fork over elite money, even if Oregon decides to, and I take very careful note if they decide not to, too.

You hit on it, 30 million, for a Lane or Mario?
Ugh..

As I said in multiple threads, I did watch the oregon utah game last night and had planned on watching it in it's entirety. Is this what "utah does to people?"

like has been said many times before on here, mario brings nothing schematically to a football team. He's a cot dayum recruiter and that's it because last night that's all I saw. I watched a large part of that game, whomever that utah coach is was coaching circles around this guy. Hard nosed physically dominant team?? That's what he's supposed to bring here? Utah completely shut down their run game, and oregons defense looked absolutely gassed on just the second drive by utah.

I wanted kiffin a tad bit more than mario because I think he can coach better, I would have been alright with either but kiffin was the guy to me. After tonight, I don't want this dude anywhere near this program lol. Their entire season has been fools gold, barely beating 4 different teams by around 1 possession on average.

They got manhandled in all phases of the game, that was the most uninspiring game I've watched in quite some time.
Great take. Please remember all to judge every coach on a per game basis as their entire resume. Big win, they are the second coming, big loss, they should be working at Burger sking.
