I don't think Butch is a viable option. I just don't think the admins would go down that route.
In light of that, I think Mark Stoops is the best option out there. He's a solid Xs and Os guy, and seems to be doing well at Kentucky.
Some of you act like we have coaches lining up to come here. Let's remember why we had to hire Al Golden in the first place. Is Butch the best coach available? Definitely not. But given our available salary and lack of interest from top coaches, he is the best most realistic option.

I know we can pay top dollar for a coach. I also know that we wont. Im saying with what the administration is willing to pay, Butch is our best option. Some of you act like we have coaches lining up to come here. This team used to pay for serious coaches. It paid Coker more than any coach in the country at one point. People should be banned for this constant misinformation. We can hire a great coach, but we have to get our POS admin to want to be elite and not a ****** basketball school.
None of you have a **** clue what the admin is willing to pay or not at this time. It's not 2010 or 2005. If you took out the obvious hate that's justified for the results, and just looked at investment in last two years, I'm gonna guess (and it's an informed one) that the budget would be more than most here presume.I know we can pay top dollar for a coach. I can't agree with that line of thinking. You're basically saying he's improved cause he outwitted OUR coaches.
Our last 3 coaches, in order - Coker, Shannon, and Golden.
About the only thing that makes Butch, from a comparative standpoint, is a prettier fat girl. Give me something else tangible cause that doesn't prove a thing.
I was actually agreeing with you and giving an example to support your theory. He made game day adjustments and logical game day decisions. Should he be considered? IMO yes but with a list of other candidates who understand the heritage and how to coach up the elite athletes we have access to.
You guys seem to ignore the talent he recruited and developed at UNC; an obviously more recent accomplishment.
He's not the only guy that can recruit and develop talent. Just cause he was a lot better at it than the last 3 bums we've had since him doesn't automatically make him the best guy for the job.
Hey. Genius.
Name one frigging team that was the equivalent of the 2001 team.
One.
Since you were probably still in diapers, guess who the coach was?
I don't want Butch
I don't want Butch
Then you're one dumb siht.
WTF do you, sonny, know about Butch other than a few things you heard or read?
Every problem we have here at the U can be fixed by Butch Davis.
Every single one. I know you grew up during a decade long dry spell while coached by a bunch of amateurs, but trust me.
It is really, really exciting when you're playing for National Championships, year after year getting the top three recruiting classes, and are always pre-season ranked in the top ten.
****, Pete!
LOL...don't get mad brother, but I really don't want Butch either. Better said...I'd REALLY want to explore every other avenue before we come back to that.
I'm not mad.
Some coaches do very well in one location. They change locations, and they can't do siht. Steve Spurrier dominated when at Florida, but at best is just 'good,' at USC.
All football has coaches who really were rocking, went to bigger or better jobs, and couldn't do siht. They didn't FIT. It is SO hard for a really good coach to mesh with a locale. So hard to find a coach that rocks the recruiting base near the school, fits the mindset and attitudes of those he recruits.
JJ was good at Oklahoma State, but ROCKED at Miami. Erickson was good at Washington State, but ROCKED at Miami. Butch ROCKED at Miami but was good at UNC. I guarantee, you can think of a dozen coaches who were great at one location, but tanked at the next job. FIT. Some coaches just FIT at some locations.
Butch Davis already 'meshes' with UM. He already KNOWS the Miami recruiting base, and KNOWS how to pick the nuggets out of the contenders. Knows how to get his players to self-start. Get the players to self-improve. Get the players ready for the NFL. Get the players DRAFTED. Get a National Championship team organized.
You want to roll the dice again. I swear to God, I don't understand the logic. You want flash and youth, when we've had flash and youth and they suked. Each was good at something before coaching here, but they failed at Head Coaching at MIAMI.
Butch FITS at Miami. And all the others one may mention, are guesses.
Rob Chudzinski probably has the closest resume to Howard, Jimmy, Dennis, and Butch. Plus he probably knows all the politics that go into dealing with the admin and the local recruiting. Just my opinion.
And Larry Scott. Our TE's look vastly improved. And yes, Golden and his whole staff need to go.
I can't agree with that part, friend. I would love to keep Ice, Hurlie Brown and Brennan Carroll.
