Devante Bond

Shocker.

When things like this happen it usually speaks to greater issues. Usually these guys are never heard from again, which is why I never held out any hope for him.

Best of luck to the guy though. He already missed a **** of an opportunity.

He was not that good

IN YOUR OPINION

Looks like Al Golden's thinks the sameway. If he was a sack machine like some of our fans claimed then Al would still be on him.

So this is indicative of how Golden views him, but Golden wanting to bring him in despite being a JUCO summer enrollee is not indicative that he likes his talent?

You try too hard to sound like your knowledgeable.

Al wanted him because we were awful not because he thought he was 20 plus sack machine. He saw how good McCord, AQM and the rest looked in the summer and decided Bond was not worth waiting for. If he was as good as some of you claim, Al would be waiting for him and other big time schools pursuing him.

Yeah because talent is the ONLY obstacle for these guys. Use your head.

82, I think the difference is bonds was a juco and those kids are prep. with the prep kids, if you like them enough, you can keep that window open as long as you want b/c their clock hasn't started yet. you can wait as long as want as long as u think they are good, u can wait for the test score.

Yeah and let's be honest, if a kid goes JUCO and still can't qualify, well then.....

I think w/ jucos, al's afraid of being top heavy still. we have young talent that we don't need him anymore. we needed him this year and next. young guys could have redshirted maybe. now, that ship is better off going after another juco at a need position or a hs kid.

yea juco is math, English, history, and some electives

We will be fine you boys forget golden brought in naim mustaafa a 4 star de/olb from the 2013 class. He was commited to uga then fliped to okst then transfered to um he has to sit out this year but the guy is 6'3-6'4 235 and is athletic.

We needed him for this year.

Not as much next cause of all the options we will have.

Oklahoma
California
Nebraska
West Virginia

And it's still early in the process for this cycle. That is way more bigtime schools that have offered than he had last recruiting cycle when he was committed.

Like some have alluded to, it seems likely there are bigger picture reasons why our staff may not pursue him further (emergence of guys in his role, 2014 committed 4 year talents at his position, soured relationship with the coaches from him not holding up his end of the bargain), but I maintain he is a **** good talent, I bet the coaches would agree with me, and it just seems dumb to demean his talent because we are not pursuing him further

If he was 20 plus sack machine an SEC schools would get him in or at least pursue. Nobody is going to pass on a dominate pass rusher. We are going after the Phelon guy and didn't he leave a JUCO school because of grades or something?

Oklahoma is talking to him not offering yet. If Cal offered him last year and IF they did it again then his grades aren't as horrible as some make them out to be. Cal is a pretty good school IIRC .According to rivals he those offers last year.

Indeed Swags which is why Golden is turning him loose. I think Coach wanted to get him in this year. When he didn't make it in Gilbert got the spot he would have had.

bomb's right, I'm not even sweating a DE/SLB loss at this point. We're as loaded in the SO/FR/committed classes there as I can remember.

I'm mostly bothered by your posts because you speak so matter-of-factly on things that you are either wrong about or just don't know. For instance. OKLAHOMA HAS OFFERED AND IT WAS THIS CYCLE THAT THEY OFFERED:

"It didn't take Oklahoma long to make a move on newly classified 2014 prospect, Devante Bond and offer him a scholarship....Last week he found out from his head coach that linebackers coach, Tim Kish had decided to offer Bond, which was a surprise to the talented pass rusher."

"The Cornhuskers are another program that recently offered Bond as well, along with Fresno State, California and Memphis. Nebraska wants to get him out to Lincoln for a visit quickly as well."

All of this is from this rivals article that came out on September 18, 2013:

(you may not be able to read it if you don't have access, but that's jsut more reason to stop talking like you know ****)

AND

I don't care what his grades are like. I'm speaking to his talent and your bs responses. If we don't pursue him, I doubt it's because of grades. It's probably because the coaches had a need/vision for him to play THIS SEASON. The coaches see their younger guys developing and expect them to continue to develop and see less need for Bond when there is a Junior McCord for next season along with an experienced Sophomore AQM. They likely see more value in reserving these scholarships for the talented 4-year eligible players that can rush the passer that are currently committed in this class. The coaches may possibly also have a soured relationship due to Bond not holding up his end of the bargain despite them going out on a limb and giving him a spot in the 2013 class despite him not being able enroll early (my assumption).

So just be quiet already

After reading all of this it is obvious no one really knows.

Most Jucos need a year to RS, and he doesn't have that now. Staff has better uses for that scholie.

That is the complete opposite of what you a JuCo to do.

They're hired guns brought in to contribute NOW. You don't bring in a JuCo that you have to wait for to develop.
