Devante Bond

After reading all of this it is obvious no one really knows.

Oklahoma is talking to him not offering yet. If Cal offered him last year and IF they did it again then his grades aren't as horrible as some make them out to be. Cal is a pretty good school IIRC .According to rivals he those offers last year.

I'm mostly bothered by your posts because you speak so matter-of-factly on things that you are either wrong about or just don't know. For instance. OKLAHOMA HAS OFFERED AND IT WAS THIS CYCLE THAT THEY OFFERED:

"It didn't take Oklahoma long to make a move on newly classified 2014 prospect, Devante Bond and offer him a scholarship....Last week he found out from his head coach that linebackers coach, Tim Kish had decided to offer Bond, which was a surprise to the talented pass rusher."

"The Cornhuskers are another program that recently offered Bond as well, along with Fresno State, California and Memphis. Nebraska wants to get him out to Lincoln for a visit quickly as well."

All of this is from this rivals article that came out on September 18, 2013:

(you may not be able to read it if you don't have access, but that's jsut more reason to stop talking like you know ****)

AND

I don't care what his grades are like. I'm speaking to his talent and your bs responses. If we don't pursue him, I doubt it's because of grades. It's probably because the coaches had a need/vision for him to play THIS SEASON. The coaches see their younger guys developing and expect them to continue to develop and see less need for Bond when there is a Junior McCord for next season along with an experienced Sophomore AQM. They likely see more value in reserving these scholarships for the talented 4-year eligible players that can rush the passer that are currently committed in this class. The coaches may possibly also have a soured relationship due to Bond not holding up his end of the bargain despite them going out on a limb and giving him a spot in the 2013 class despite him not being able enroll early (my assumption).

So just be quiet already

Seems like the issue must be academics.
All the schools that have offered are state schools. Memphis is the former Memphis State.
For a juco to transfer to a state school you just need an associates degree.
With a private school, like Miami, there might be more requirements, for example particular classes.

Most Jucos need a year to RS, and he doesn't have that now. Staff has better uses for that scholie.

LOL. QUE?

Go through history, we RS a lot of Jucos in the past including McDougle and McKinnie. The exceptions are generally kids who didn't need to go to Juco for academics like Shockey. If you don't believe coaches like to have jucos with 3 to play 2, you are wrong.

Bond was a rush end specialist with limited lateral movement to set the edge or protect the flats if needed. We have Gilbert (only this year), McCord, AQM, and Mustafa, with several guys coming in this class (Smith, Thomas, Harris, Jackson and McCray) who all can get to the QB if needed, but are more versatile in space. We're also bringing safety, corner and OLB blitzes to add in that speed element. Bush and Figueroa will get their share of sacks & TFLs next season. So while he would have filled a hole this year, I don't think we trade another one of these guys for him next year.

Yeah I think the writing is on the wall here. The staff wanted Bond for this year and his need won't be a big next year.

Regardless of his talent I think golden feels he didn't take care of business and he is a potential distraction going forward

Move on gents

Things are a lot different now than last year. Defense made unbelievable turnaround. 2014 class is looking fantastic. We have a bunch of menfolk roaming on, behind and in front of the defensive line of scrimmage now. When he committed, Bond looked like the nastiest guy on D we would have. Lot of bad boys out there now. I think Al figures he can make much better use of the ship now.

### UM has decided to cut ties with linebacker Devante Bond, whom it once thought would be a key piece of this year’s defense. Bond had 24 sacks at a Northern California junior college the past two seasons but failed to qualify academically and enrolled at a prep school. UM is no longer pursuing him; Nebraska and California are among his suitors. Meanwhile, UM has no idea if elite receiver/basketball player Derrick Griffin will ever play here. Griffin is at a prep school after failing to qualify academically and has said he hopes to enroll at Miami in December.

I loved what Bond brought to the table. Good luck to that crazy son of a *****. Hope he catches on at a program out west and rips the ****ies off of QBs like it's a game.
