But I would hire Herman, Pagano, and obviously Chip Kelly ahead of Butch right now.
Let me get this straight. Charlie Strong's success at Louisville "doesn't mean ****" because he had a great quarterback in a bad conference. But Herman is your top guy for winning with a great quarterback in a bad conference. Got it.
That's not a knock on Herman. He is one of my top choices. But it's becoming clear to me that your dislike for Strong goes beyond football.
Charlie strong is most likely not comfortable recruiting in Texas. You would have to think that if Charlie wanted to fill the team up with south Florida kids Texas fans and boosters wouldn't stand for it
2. I see more "he's just not a good fit there," the exact same excuse many Golden supporters used.
True. But you were talking about UNC offense trying to excuse away Davis's bad offenses. Fedora has proven you don't have to have a bad offense at UNC.Butch had NFL studs like Hakeem Nicks
No, Butch had like 4 nfl skill players and some OL. Not a bunch. I'm not saying Butch killed it on offense at UNC, that was part of what I wrote, but he was at UNC. Even Mack Brown, when he was winning 10 and 11 games at Carolina had an average offense.
Larry Fedora's had some pretty good offenses at UNC.
And some epically bad defenses, like, giving up close to 40 points per game, bad.

I understand your points and there is merit. But the Texas situation has been bizarre from the beginning. These aren't excuses in retrospect. People have been questioning the fit from Day One.
Their biggest booster called Strong's hiring a "kick in the face" right after it was announced. The AD who hired him is gone. He was forced to build relationships with an entirely new high school community that was skeptical of him. The fans were largely against him. He inherited very little NFL talent and a putrid quarterback. Texas is a historically underachieving program to begin with, and Mack Brown left them extra Cokerized.
Strong is by no means blameless. He bungled the coordinator situation. He would likely start fresh at OC here.
But the pieces are in place for success at Miami. He'd need to build a Southern Savage Defense, which he did at South Carolina, Florida and Louisville. He would need to evaluate and acquire local talent, which he has always done spectacularly. And Kaaya would need to keep developing like Bridgewater developed. All of these things are realistic given Strong's track record.
Man shut upCharlie strong is most likely not comfortable recruiting in Texas. You would have to think that if Charlie wanted to fill the team up with south Florida kids Texas fans and boosters wouldn't stand for it
1. Lol at comparing an annual toilet bowl NFL franchise to a football resource monster like Texas.
Mind you if randy were still here at that point, Teddy would have been a cane..

The Browns had 4 NFL titles (8 total) and used to be a well respected franchise. Before Belichick arrived, the toilet bowl franchise would be the NE Pats. I'm just pointing out if he can win in NE, he can win anywhere. Good fit, bad timing, injuries, whatever. Circumstances always dictate outcomes. Whether we can excuse it or not is a whole other thing.
All excuses that have nothing to do with losing to teams like Iowa State and being ranked in the 100's in both offense and defense.
Mind you if randy were still here at that point, Teddy would have been a cane..
If my Aunt had balls..

the point wasn't about us having teddy.. the point was that strong had teddy fall in his lap..
Not that it changes your overall point but the part in bold is revisionist history. Bridgewater was already planning on de-committing before Randy got fired. But I would hire Herman, Pagano, and obviously Chip Kelly ahead of Butch right now.

i won't get into any of the stuff outside of football, but Teddy kind of fell into his lap... has charlie strong recruited a good QB outside of Teddy? Mind you if randy were still here at that point, Teddy would have been a cane.. I like strong on the defensive side, just like i did randy, but strong hasn't done anything, outside of get lucky with bridgewater, to instill confidence in him as an HC..
and yes golden was able to bring in Kaaya, and we're still in the dumps.. but at least he was able to bring in a good QB (or 2, allison), which is probably the most important position in the game.
I still can't thing of a college coached that failed miserably at a power school and then had great success at another.
Maybe there is one, anyone think of someone who did that?

Teddy didn't fall into his lap. How many five-star QBs were signing with Louisville at the time? It was a great recruiting job.
