CJ Bailey needs to come home

I'm not saying we won't have plenty of depth. We have solid talent all throughout the roster. But it's one thing to have solid talent and it's another to have frontline starters. We don't have as of now at least proven frontline starters throughout the offensive line or really the defensive line next season either. We will be replacing a lots of starters next season. That's a given and while we have backups as of now that have shown promise to go from showing promise to being Frontline starters is something else in itself. And I'm not sure in particular on the offensive line how great that's going to look.
With big portal adds at EDGE, LB, and Nickel, I think next year’s defense could be elite. Really like what’s going on at DT, if Moten stays. Of course, lot of ifs, but the foundation is there for another double digit win season.

I like Sorsby's skillset and need to watch him more in depth. This is not a Bailey over Sorsby post because I haven't watched enough Sorsby to say that.

But just for some context on Bailey's age, here are their stats through their first two years in college:

CJ Bailey- 22 starts, 5,297 yards (68%), 7.9 YPA, 40 TDs, 19 INTs, 494 rushing yards, 10 rushing TDS
Brendan Sorsby- 10 starts, 1,587 yards (57%), 6.6 YPA, 15 TDs, 6 INTs, 268 rushing yards, 4 rushing TDs

Bailey is still a young player who has been on a steep upward trajectory since high school. I don't know why people think he's hit his ceiling.
I’ll get more deeper into the stats after playoff games are played but this is a little important stat breakdown I did quickly…

Sam Leavitt had lisfranc surgery.
Rocco Becht had labrum surgery.
Sellers can't throw worth a ****.
Sorsby might go pro, and just lost his 11th straight November start.
JKS is staying at Cal.
EVERYBODY is going after Mestemaker.

Bailey wants to get paid like a first round pick.. and we're about to be stuck meeting his demands aren't we?
I don't think you are giving us enough credit. We are 20-4, produced a QB who went first in the draft. Our 2025 QB returned to hit 2023 form and will likely be a 1st/2nd round pick after likely falling to day 3 with Georgia. We have the best young WR in football and likely still a Top 15 OL next year. After Lane Kiffin we are going to be able essentially hand pick what QB we want.

IMO, I don’t think we can lose more than 1 game next year and I don’t believe we can win with Sellers or Raiola at ND.

The ACC is a ******* abortion of a conference and losing 1 conference game next year I don’t believe is an option and the best way to keep teams in games is with indecisive QBs and turnover prone QBs.

That Clemson game next year is a must win. I know Sellers has played Clemson before but I don’t trust that guy to not lose those 2 games.

I’m on the Raiola bandwagon. Think with our talent and oline he would eat. Biggest concern with him would be leadership, feel like Mario can help coach him with that. Not a choad like Rhule.
He does have leadership concerns and that’s a big problem for me, especially from the QB potions.

He’s also a statue and takes a lot of sacks (yes, the O-Line, etc) but there are ways to try and mitigate the sacks and not take those hits. Hes now having health issues.

He was sacked 26 times last year and 27 times this year. So he didn’t help improve in that area himself (obviously coaches and o-line have responsibilities) but the overall point, the QB can take steps to lower the number (throwing the ball away, checks at the line, etc).

Now, he is a high completion guy (72+%) and low INTs (6), of which 3 came in the Maryland game.

He played a **** of a game vs Michigan. He’s uber talented.

I have concerns about the Raiola team (remember last year there were rumors of a transfer and he had to announce he was staying).

I am not sure how mentally focused he is compared to what I see with a Mendoza, Beck, Reed or Maiava (whom to me he took the biggest leap from last year at USC).

Cam and Beck have clearly been great leaders. Regardless of what people say from UGA, Cristobal speaks nothing but praise about how he came and immediately started working with all the guys. Need the next QB to be as good of a leader as the past two have been. Especially since guys like Cici and Bain are leaving, who clearly have stepped into the role of being leaders

Beck can actually read defenses, played a lot of football & been around successful players & team. Raiola is none of those & will find a way to get you beat.
Yes. The experience part cannot be undervalued. It’s one of the prime reasons cam and Beck have been so good. Physical ability is one part; the mental and football experience is another.

And to be fair, I don’t know if Bailey is that guy either from a leadership standpoint.

I'll eat crow here. Mendoza still sounds like a freaking dork. I'm surprised he commands a huddle, props to the young man though. Woulda been a cheaper take at QB at the very least. Bailey already commands more.
People respect people who are comfortable being themselves.. Him being what you call a dork doesnt matter as long as you can ball, especially in this generation, kids are much more accepting of differences

I’m not worried about the OL. Mario has earned that trust and I like what he’s building there. They’ll also bring in a couple in the portal. My point is there’s no perfect qb out there and we don’t need that. Every guy out there has some kind of flaws and people will pick everyone of them out like a chick on a dating app.
but all of them eventually be ******* lol

If we make big portal adds at edge we're GOING to lose big high school recruits we already have in house. The portal can't be an answer for everything each and every year when you're recruiting high school at a high level. It's not about sit and wait your turn anymore. You bring in big additions all you're doing is telling kids on the roster we don't believe in them... Same with nickel

I’m stoked to see the outcome of roster mgmt and the right mix of new pieces
