CJ Bailey needs to come home

Sam Leavitt had lisfranc surgery.
Rocco Becht had labrum surgery.
Sellers can't throw worth a ****.
Sorsby might go pro, and just lost his 11th straight November start.
JKS is staying at Cal.
EVERYBODY is going after Mestemaker.

Bailey wants to get paid like a first round pick.. and we're about to be stuck meeting his demands aren't we?
If we're going to consider Becht, Sorsby and Sellers, we need to consider Byrum Brown, IMO.

It's important to remember we are more than likely replacing 80% of the offensive line next season and I'm not sure how many of them are on the roster right now. Even if they are people that are on the roster right now obviously it's coming from the backups which have been backups for a reason. As a result of that more than likely our run game is going to suffer some even though run blocking is far easier than pass protection, but very likely our passing game is going to suffer substantially unless we do drastic things in the offseason. Mario is going to have to get creative I'd imagine since we don't play a lot of backups in key roles for development right now. I guess it's just a matter of not knowing what we've got on our hands and while talent should be abundant developing it is something else entirely. I hope you're right though. But if I'm dead set on a portal QB for next year my one mandatory thing would be it's somebody mobile.
Agreed, definitely need a portal QB. Prefer accuracy first before mobility, though. Definitely lose key pieces on OL & DL, but probably have more ready talent on the roster than you’re giving credit. Also trust staff to fill holes via the portal. Haven’t analyzed next year’s schedule, but first glance is it’s the same or maybe not as tough. Hit on QB & portal fillers & no reason we can’t be chasing a playoff spot.

I don’t want any QB from the Briles Veer and Shoot.

Those offenses are so simple, QBs from them have never seen even college a route tree.

You take QBs from more complicated systems and put them in your more simple offense in one offseason.

You don’t take QBs from far more simple offense and try to teach them your more complicated offense in one offseason.

One of the rare times I disagree with you. While we have to replace a lot of players next season, I think our depth will be better than ever in many rooms (outside of RB, TE and LB).

If we can hit in the portal, this is a serious contender next season. The QB decision is extremely critical for us to compete for a title. 26’ giving me 87’ vibes.

As for Bailey, we could do better, imo. Reminds me too much Jacory when he throws.
I'm not saying we won't have plenty of depth. We have solid talent all throughout the roster. But it's one thing to have solid talent and it's another to have frontline starters. We don't have as of now at least proven frontline starters throughout the offensive line or really the defensive line next season either. We will be replacing a lots of starters next season. That's a given and while we have backups as of now that have shown promise to go from showing promise to being Frontline starters is something else in itself. And I'm not sure in particular on the offensive line how great that's going to look.

Even more reason to go all out for the high ceiling QB that can take over and win us a game rather than just manage a game and rely on elite trench play… though I’m more worried about our DLine than Oline. I think we will be good at worst on OLine even with lots of turnover. DLine losing Mesidor and Bain is major Loss. Moten returning would be major positive for us. Really hope that happens. If it doesn’t that’s Very bad. Dline of Blount, Lightfoot, Lowe, Scroggins at Edge… with Scott and Moten at DT… I’d be confident with DT. Would want like a DT3/4 in portal and a potential starter at EDGE in the 260+lb mold

Something to keep in mind when you watch Saturday's Heisman ceremony:

CJ Bailey (two years at NC State)

68%, 5,297 yards, 7.9 YPA, 40 TDS, 19 INTs, 494 rushing yards, 10 TDs

Fernando Mendoza (two years at Cal)

66%, 4,712 yards, 7.5 YPA, 30 TDs, 16 INTs, 197 rushing yards, 4 TDs

When I first brought up Mendoza as a Miami option last year, most of the responses were, "We can do better," "We're only talking about him because he's from South Florida," or worse. Those posts aged like the girl from Top Gun.
This girl from Top Gun?

Valid points. Hard to replace Bain, Meisodor, Francis, etc. Need to spend big in portal and hit.

A good offensive running scheme can hide a lot of the those concerns with the OL. I won’t be holding my breath on that.

I want Bailey for the running ability. We haven’t had that under Dawson.

Raiola is fine. I don’t want to see his ****** Mahomes schtick. Keep him away from here for that reason alone.

I don’t want associated with those cuck behaviors.
Honestly anyone sayin Bailey has zero reason imo not to prefer Sorsby who has proven better in like every category besides height.

I’m not worried about the OL. Mario has earned that trust and I like what he’s building there. They’ll also bring in a couple in the portal. My point is there’s no perfect qb out there and we don’t need that. Every guy out there has some kind of flaws and people will pick everyone of them out like a chick on a dating app.

I think Sorsby is headed to the NFL before he runs the risk of moving up in competition and getting hurt or having a down year.
He might be the Cam , Beck of previous years. Everyone close to him thinks he’s entering the draft. Maybe Mario has another trick up his sleeve. I’d much rather have somebody who’ll be here before to help with the portal .

Good thing with the portal window being moved, most guys declaring for draft happens before it opens now officially. He should have good idea of what he will do by christmas..

He definitely has earned that. But as quick as their gonna need to help and be coached up certainly worries me with an entirely new line.

I don’t think he’d be a 1st. If he wants to be one he has to come back. Mendoza and Moore are the top 5 picks this draft.
Simpson is interesting cause he was older and Bama def wants Russell to play and are likely paying him a lot. But this last month has been very bad for his draft stock. He could have a big game against a good OU D and get back to late first maybe

I'll eat crow here. Mendoza still sounds like a freaking dork. I'm surprised he commands a huddle, props to the young man though. Woulda been a cheaper take at QB at the very least. Bailey already commands more.

edit: Props to the first cuban american heisman. Heartfelt speech (y)

I like Sorsby's skillset and need to watch him more in depth. This is not a Bailey over Sorsby post because I haven't watched enough Sorsby to say that.

But just for some context on Bailey's age, here are their stats through their first two years in college:

CJ Bailey- 22 starts, 5,297 yards (68%), 7.9 YPA, 40 TDs, 19 INTs, 494 rushing yards, 10 rushing TDS
Brendan Sorsby- 10 starts, 1,587 yards (57%), 6.6 YPA, 15 TDs, 6 INTs, 268 rushing yards, 4 rushing TDs

Bailey is still a young player who has been on a steep upward trajectory since high school. I don't know why people think he's hit his ceiling.
