CJ Bailey needs to come home

I like Bailey but is he ready to lead a team
They did beat four 8-win teams and three wins over SP+ top-40 teams (as many as Miami).

With a bad HC and zero talent outside of Bailey.

These things don't mean causation on their own, but I'd say he's carried them far above where they should be against that schedule.

I'll review whomever we pull and will root for them like any other Cane. I just think Bailey is better than this board overall seems to think (and I get things wrong all the time so what do I know).
he has talent and has done a lot there. is he ready to level up as he would have to do to lead a team to the playoffs.

I'm less bullish than you on the answer at QB being in-house (only because I've basically never seen Nickel play - and evidently he was behind Williams, a guy that has proven he can't play), but TE is a different story.

Unless Shockey / Olsen et al is walkin' through that door via the Portal I'd be content to go with Lofton, Gilbert, Schott, Briggs and Mueller. At some point you have to trust your high school recruiting and show players that they're going to get opportunities to play here.

I have the same opinion at DE.
I really like all 3 of our Young TEs - Schott, Gilbert, and Mueller (Briggs too but he'll RS). But obviously you don't expect Mueller to contribute right away. Schott and Gilbert should both imo be counted on to be heavy contributors next year. We need to develop them and they have the talent to be legit. So force them out there imo.

But this is why I'm saying to maximize this roster imo you just move Lofton to HB/FB - the position EVERYONE was saying he was best at in practice - you let Fletcher / Brown leave.... then you bring in a do-it-all TE. That way you have a high quality portal TE as starter, and we consistently run a lot of 2 TE (and will run a lot of 3 TE if we are confident in their blocking). So Schott and Gilbert getting heavy rotation. And Lofton can be our big back and actually better than Brown/Fletcher on 3rd downs because he'd be a real weapon in the pass game. Fletcher was very good in his role this year. but I think Lofton could give the same net contribution.

I'd really like an offense of
QB: Portal / Nickel / Coleman
RB: Pringle / Lofton / Portal RB3 / CWH+Mallory
TE: Portal TE1 / Schott + Gilbert / Mueller / Carve+Briggs
X: Moore / Wingo / Chance / Parris /
Slot: Toney / Carr / Spafford /
Z: Trader or Portal / Upshaw /

LT: Bell or Samson / Ervin
LG: McCoy
C: Portal / SJ /
RG: Samson (if Bell returns) / Kinsler or Buchanan
RT: Cantwell

I’ve mentioned this before and I’ll do it again. People here either overrate or underrate south Florida guys. If Bailey was from say Texas and went to NC State their opinions would be different. Both sides would be less steadfast in their arguments. I personally think we’d be fine with Bailey , is he one of my top 2-3 guys ? No but we’d win alot of games with him.
My main criticism with Bailey isn't as much him as what he'd do in our offense. He is much more in the Beck mold than the Cam mold. Which as we've shown this year we CAN win with, but is that going to unlock our offense especially if our run game has zero explosion AND we don't go out and get a big play WR?.....

Bailey simply wouldn't unlock it imo.

I will continue to maintain the most important thing for us is getting a QB that is a playmaker who Mario is literally incapable of being conservative with. I truly think that is the difference in our offense being great (potentially top 5) or just good (15-30) next year. We need the guy who is just that alpha dog who generates explosive plays through the air that you think can truly take over a game. And obviously he needs to be accurate who can feed Toney next year. And if they have a little mobility too thats great but I don't view that as important in terms of pure scrambling ability. Just being mobile in the pocket and being a threat to scramble is good, but I don't think we need a pure runner. Like Raiola imo is definitely mobile enough. All the Qbs that have been discussed are - mestemaker, Sorsby, leavitt, etc. So imo the mobility thing to me isn't really a factor, cause I'd be satisfied with that aspect with any of these guys really.

Like to me I just don't see the benefit of Bailey over Sosrby EXCEPT for money. Like at all. Whereas I think Mestemaker and Raiola have a far higher ceiling for what they can output in this offense.

He's been proving me wrong? I don't know how he could have proved me wrong. My only take on him is he's not good and I wouldn't care what Lance rolfers whoever that is or anyone else has to say about him. That's my own opinion and my own take. Since he's been proving me wrong all season how did he look against us? A game that he was so looking forward to because it was personal to him as he stated? If I remember correctly it was pretty s*****. Myself I wouldn't want any of those quarterbacks y'all are speaking about. Nothing makes me say this quarterback is someone I have to have to lead my offense with.
Anyone who thinks we should start an unproven Luke Nickel should sit this discussion out. The game has passed you by

That was a bad game for sure. Only problem is that was against ND. So that would be 2 games.

I like Bailey but he seems to fold under pressure. 🤷‍♂️
Very valid point. Look it's logical he's not going to do well while being severely overmatched. I think it's also probably logical to say he's clearly not good enough to overcome it. He's definitely not Cam Ward but none are gonna be

Mestemaker is the best qb available right now.
Yes it’s the hill I’ve chosen to die on.
Would be an excellent fit IMO. He's just spent the last season lighting up everyone throwing tons of intermediate routes in the Air Raid. Exactly what we need. Exactly what Bailey does very well also
