Lol....He wanted to be svelte...Yeah he wanted to become a 285lb lumbering 3-4 Defensive End.
That must be why he dropped all that weight as soon as he left UM?

Idiots??...Lol...Some of us "So called Idiots" forgot more about CFB than you'll ever know...Chick played at 235, 250, 270 and 285... He wanted to be an every down DE. At 235 and 250 he was getting manhandled by college OT's so he gained weight. At 270 and 285 he was a slow ****. He was NOT going to be a 250# LB or specialty passer rusher (3rd down, etc.) at Miami. You idiots have a terrible memory... The truth is he is a tweaner and got lucky because of his speed that the NFL uses dudes like him as 3rd down guys and on special teams. Good for him.
I still think Golden was a better overall recruiter than Rick. Look at the NFL talent that was still coming out of Miami even on a 6 win team. That 10 win team a couple years ago was mostly Golden's players. Year 3 when Rick had more of his recruits playing, the team was not good and he was STILL using a QB recruited by Al Golden. Rick was the better coach, Golden was the better recruiter. I'll preemptively give myself a downvote since I know people are going to hate hearing the truth.
Njoku at LB? I don’t recall that, unless it was some brief two or three day experiment. Or was I drunk?
D'Onofrio told me TO MY FACE that they were planning to turn Chad Thomas into a 285+ pound 3-4 (4-technique) Defensive End.
It was a one week experiment... http://caneswatch.blog.palmbeachpos...-hurricanes-tight-end-david-njoku-to-the-top/Njoku at LB? I don’t recall that, unless it was some brief two or three day experiment. Or was I drunk?
I totally agree, but that is another discussion. Getting back Chick as a DE vs LB... I just have a really hard time believing Chick really wanted to be an OLB in college and blames those **** *** coaches we had for not turning him into one... NOBODY knew that by going back down to his soph weight he was going to get his burst back. His burst came back when he started getting rid of all the weight in prep for 40 and the speed trials at the NFL combine. He weighed in at 267 (less than his Jr. yr wt.) and had a great combine, specifically he kicked *** in the 40 and shuttle. At that point, everyone realized this was the right trend for him... Since then, he has lost more weight and now plays at 255. My point is nobody knew including himself, that his NFL career was going to be played as an OLB... So him blaming those crap *** coaches for not converting him or figuring this out is a weak excuse for his mediocre college career. As you well know, his pro career ain't nothing to write about as well, but good for him, he made it to the second contract where the real $ is made for most. This is just my opinion and I wish him the best. I hope he donates a bunch of that coin he is making back to the U...They should've played a 4-3 because this is Miami and the kids down here play with speed and are not going to excel at 2-gapping.
How would anyone know, considering folden and dorito fattened him up and directed him inside? The issue isn’t that people were supposed to forecast his nfl future at OLB. It’s that they were supposed to forecast his collegiate career based on his actual strengths and weaknesses. He was then what he is now. A good, pretty quick and fast midsized athlete. If we had a 4-3 then, he would have been an edge rusher at DE and we’d have seen his ability, and he would have played around 245–255. In a 3-4, Dorito immediately pegged him for a bookend DE then fattened him up more because we had no interior capabilities. We could have tried him as a 3-4 OLB, but Dorito wasn’t having that anyhow. Bottom line is the 3-4 is just a terrible fit for UM, not just for Chick.I totally agree, but that is another discussion. Getting back Chick as a DE vs LB... If you don't have a Vince Wilfork type of Nosetackle...A 3-4 is Dead right off Jumpstreet...How would anyone know, considering folden and dorito fattened him up and directed him inside? LOL at gravy IV, ni99a had the big mac dietIt was The Legend and maybe 2 guys who had Chick’s back the whole time. Everyone else dogged him as a flop, failure and bust.
They took a dog off the edge and hooked him up to Folden’s gravy IV tube. Pathetic.
Who other than the teams he’s played for have ever had a 3-4 NT like Wilfork? If you don't have a Vince Wilfork type of Nosetackle...A 3-4 is Dead right off Jumpstreet...
We Won 5 NCs with a 5-2 and 4-3....F a 3-4Who other than the teams he’s played for have ever had a 3-4 NT like Wilfork?
The Ravens had probably the goat D ever with Siragusa in the middle. You can recruit NTs. We don’t, but you can. The problem I have with the 3-4 is it makes most of the front pieces poor fits for us relative to the corresponding spots in a 4-3, given So Fla talent. IMO it also tends to push either complexity, reactiveness or both. NFL teams can use it well because they can find big, athletic OLBs who have enough experience to know how to make fast decisions. Good luck getting those kids out of HS every year and having them ready to play early.
I am not disagreeing. I am pointing out the reason isn’t that you need Wilfork to make it work.We Won 5 NCs with a 5-2 and 4-3....F a 3-4

He puts on weight, gets slow, and plays poorly. Please explain the tricky part in figuring out what to do about this situation.I totally agree, but that is another discussion.
