Big update from Herald

IDK why we keep bringing up ZO! The man played for Miami in the 80s and has not been around football since then. Never been around college coaches or programs. Never been seen an NFL office. Just nothing for 30 years and now he wants to relearn football. 👀

I don’t get this board? What would Tom Jurich bring to the university that Zo or Gino wouldn’t? You think Mario or Lane aren’t picking up the phone for Alonso or Gino? Would you rather have some second rate administrator like Nunez or the chubby fella for TTU?

According to the article, what was supposed to be a reverse vasectomy, is now a full-blown neutering in progress. Let’s just shut the **** program down. This talk about “Culture” only exists at the high drama U. Never heard another college program talk about it. Unbelievable!

I personally think Zo and Gino were courtesy interviews…. Basically Rooney rule type ish. Yes I know Gino is not black and the Rooney rule doesn’t apply in college but my point is…. Courtesy interviews to say we have them a shot.

Lol, experience and an actual successful track record of being an AD. Making great hires, raising a ridiculous amount of money and making great moves for UL when it comes to conference realignment as well as being the AD when the 2 cornerstone athletic programs (football and hoops) made a huge turnaround and became legit. That’s what he brings. Some of you all really underestimate the importance of a legit AD, clearly.

I want Zo here, but not as AD, no. Ya’ll arent tired of experimenting with guys in 1st time roles yet?

If Zo is the guy, that means the big money is behind him.

EVERY SINGLE THING that has been leaked could be utter bullshyt. For all we know, Jurich could be the guy, though unlikely. This article lays out is a reasonable middle ground considering what we know about the players involved.

Let’s say the power between the new guard and old status quo is evenly split. Both sides are trying to win over the neutral members. New guard wants Jurich and Zo apprenticing under him in a personnel role to start. Jurich’s past is too much to sway enough of the neutral bot to pull that trigger.

There is enough votes to get rid of Manny though. Everything we hear leaked on his side is the last gasp to try and turn the tide. It isn’t working, but if the new guard pushes too hard, they can create a situation where the old regime has the votes to completely take control, install a puppet ad, and keep Jr another year. Alonzo’s connection and reputation give the new guard a real football guy the neutral members can get behind and ensure the worst case scenario won’t occur. The Texas Tech and New Mexico ads are concessions to ensure an important step in the right direction.

After having our imaginations intrigued by having Jurich’s name in this discussion and him being interested makes this scenario very underwhelming. I understand the anger, especially with respect to basketball and baseball.

Still, I think Alonzo will be he home-run in revamping the football program. HE HAS A VISION and deep pocketed boosters in his corner. An important thing to note is we have not heard the the name of a single washed up, Miami bro head coach mentioned AT ALL during this process. All we have heard are established college names that have had good success. That tells me Zo isn’t trying to put the band back together and will make decisions the way Alabama, Georgia, OSU etc make them. He will certainly do EVERYTHING in his power to get us the things those programs have. I believe he knows how to get the help he needs to fill in gaps in his previous experience.

This isn’t what we want, but in regards to football at least, it will be a HUGE improvement. When booster walks into Zo’s office and tells him “I got a $500,000 check and will be back with much more. What do you need?”, Zo will have a much better answer than a few analysts and some lockers. Believe that.

It's starting to take shape. The new guard will get their guy in and the old guard will get their spies put in place so as to ensure the new guard pick is sabotaged every step of the way.

The old guard gets what they want: (1) to remain in power and (2) and pathetic men's sports programs.
Care to elaborate

Zo is not qualified, hence they need admin support.

There isn’t another power 5 school in the country that would hire him as AD. If we are making decisions solely on his past ties to UM, that’s the wrong decision.
He is qualified, sorry u don't have to be a previous AD to be a AD. He was in a NFL front office. There are differences but its still executive experience.

I can kind of see Zo, but how is Gino qualified for AD?
Honestly...it's hard to tell since there isn't a ton of info out there regarding the specifics of what Gino does in his current roles. But I do think there's two main components of an organization, for both NFL and college.

1 - Business operations (finance, sales, operations, etc)
2 - Sport (players, coaches, support staff, etc)

I see Zo as more experienced on the sport side of things (obviously). There's limited info out there but by what is out there Zo seems to favor scouting and handling player personnel decisions. It doesn't seem like this is a guy sitting in on marketing meetings, reviewing renewal rates on season tickets, and/or supporting on closing some corporate development deals. He's more so going to be in the film room reviewing tape with coaches and traveling doing some scouting. The management experience probably comes in his management over the scouts but it's very likely there's a Biz Ops person managing all of that.

Gino, on the other hand, probably has more of the business operations experience. GAMCO is a publicly traded brokerage firm and he sits as SVP. Not really sure what he does as SVP but probably has a little more experience in the traditional business world. Additionally, he's also CEO of Touchdown Radio which really just seems like a passion project that lets him color commentate on a CFB game every weekend.

Can they both be successful ADs? Idk and you don't know...none of us do...but I do know that neither of them is anywhere near being one of the more qualified candidates out there.

With that said, if you put a gun to my head and forced me to pick...I'd probably let you pull the trigger.
