Betting line set at 8.5 wins

While it COULD have been worse, we can all agree on that, the fact is we were **** close to being a 10 win team. Now, if we can be close to a 10 win team with Manny Diaz, why not with a coaching staff that should be 10 times better? Our team has holes, but so does every team we play. We also have one of the top QBs in the country. I like our odds at the over.
Agreed. I also think we can win 10 games but we need A LOT of things to go our way and to stay healthy. I just don't agree with the "anything less than 10 wins is a failure" mentality. I don't think we should hype ourselves into a frezy to where we have morons calling for heads to roll and the closeted Gator and Nole fans creating Cane Tears threads because we improved as a team to 8-4/9-3.

If you're going to make the bolded argument for loses you have to make the same argument for the wins.

Remember App State? We won because we hit a 43 yd field goal and had to rely on them dropping a pass on 3rd down to secure the win. If they catch the 3&6th pass they were within a few yards of field goal range with 1 minute left to play with 2 timeouts left. But we forget that because the receiver dropped it even though it hit him in the gut.

What about NC State? We won that game because Kam Kinchens knows how to tackle. He literally made the game winning open field tackle.

GT we were an overturned call from them marching down the field and potentially tying with a field goal.

Finally we had Pitt. An interception from big # 0 from a terribly thrown pass, a lucky non safety call, and another lucky bounce from the Mallory fumble is the only reason we won.

For as many "bro, we were 3 games from being a 10 win team with trash *** ***** Miaz." We were equally as close to a 3 win team as well.
Football, just like life is a game of INCHES.

I look more at how a team looks overall in the first year of a new regime. Last year, we could have won 10, or 4. We played down to nearly everyone, even losing to a bad FSU team. This year I want to see us start to bury bad teams, not having to kick a late FG or make a game saving tackle to do so. I want to see us compete with good teams, and win some. Every game shouldn't be a toss up, and that's where we were last year. A better staff should mean improvement in this area. We need to start beating the teams we should beat by more than one play, by more than one play. It shouldn't be a coin toss, every single week. We shouldn't get completely hammered every time we play a top 10 team. Just look improved. It's not always about the W/L total when you are rebuilding. It's about looking the part of a team that is improving. That is what I want to see this year.

Very well said my friend. That is where you can tell whether or not big improvements are being made. If next season is 8-4 but the wins are all convincing (including face ******* FSPoo) by one or more scores and the losses are down to the wire against better than average competition (read have plenty of talent such as Clempson and aTm) then we can say that is a solid year 1. People severely underestimate how poorly coached and mentally weak this team was the past few years.

I can 100% see us beating one of Clempson or aTm but dropping the ball against a team we shouldn't such as one of the tobacco road schools. I was firmly in the 7.5 wins school (willing to bet at 8) when Mario came aboard. With all of the transfers though I can say 8.5 is accurate with 9 wins being firmly within reach.

I don’t but the J&J’s argument. We play in the coastal, not the SEC West. Manny was a fluke 4th and 23, a tipped pass and a missed 20 yard FG away from 10 wins last year and we all know what kind of coach he was. So that makes think our “joes” made Manny garbage coaching look a whole lot better than it was. Now add the Bryles award winner as the OC , Steel and a coaching staff that grew in talent and size.
That same argument works the other way. Could have easily finished 4-8

Manny also won more close games against teams we were supposed to lose than he lost.

If you flip the results of all the close games because a bounce or two go the other way we’d have been even worse.

I disagree with your logic. I am also optimistic for this next year though and think it’ll come down a lot to how well TVD, our oline, and wrs can play in the new system

If we have the best QB, 2nd best “team talent” according to 247 and the best coaching staff in the ACC there is no doubt we should go over. Manny was a couple bad bounces and some brutal defensive calls away from being a 9/10 win team last year. 10 regular season win or bust for me
Likely 9 wins so this is right where it should be

if you say Texas A&M and Clemson on road are losses, where are the other 2?

UNC at home?
Pittsburgh at home?
You don't even really need to identify games specifically to likely be right that we will lose 3 or more games. Very few teams win all the games they should in a season, it is just how it goes. We aren't a top 5 roster, and even if we were those rosters don't go undefeated every year anyway. The odds of us beating every team we are favored against is probably in the high single digits or low double digits at best.

I like the FSU bet. I will go under on that one at 7.5.

This far out, these RSW totals that books announce are usually from completely obscure books that nobody can access, they have incredibly low limits (like $50), or both.

If you find a place you can access and that will take real money right now on under 7.5 at -110, let me know. I will gladly pounce on that.

I think they got the 7.5 Wins mixed up with the 7.5 Urinals to be replaced at FSU....Mistakes happen....

I was confused with the 7.5 urinals - so contacted the FSU engineer - and the 8th urinal is beyond budget, so they're going to replace it with a 30-gallon bucket.

I agree 9 wins easy unless we still have the same ****** ***** mentality in our players we’ve had the last 15 years
