Benedict Cristobal is gone

## Cristobal is leaving because he's getting a big raise (to $500,000) and values the chance to work for Nick Saban. And no, UM isn't happy about him bolting after less than two months on the job. Hard to ever see UM welcoming him back again.

Most people would throw his resume in the trash after that, its easy to take a job after a month, its not very easy to find the next job with that on a resume

I get the profession - upward mobility to the max. I get that. However, one month into his current gig at his alma matter when he'll be at bama for what - a few years? You don't think that he can get that money at a top program if he stays at UM?

I'm sure he can. But look at it this way:

Let's say that his final destination--an HC gig in a power conference--is the same whether he's at UM or Bama. And let's say it takes him the same amount of time to reach that destination, probably 2 years.

Now, let's assume that the rumors are true that he'd make 500k/yr at UM. And we know that he feels money is an issue. So let's just guesstimate and say that Bama would pay him 650-700k/yr.

Over 2 years, he'd make 300-400k more at Bama than he would at UM. That's almost an extra year's salary at UM.

This is the sort of garbage logic idiots use to make emotional decisions sound logical. I once listened to a lawyer try to explain to me how he analyzed staying in law vs. jumping to some investment banking type job. He told me what he thought his earnings would be in both positions, then had some ****amamie theory for what the right 'discount' rate was to NPV each earning stream (different for each job), then with a straight face told me that the higher amount was the thing that would decide the matter. No discussion about whether he'd be happier in one job or the other. No discussion about how hard he'd work, what type of things he'd do. Just some made up numbers with a made up discount rate. I don't even recall what he ended up doing, but based on the stupidity of the logic I'd guess he must have landed on Wall St.

Anyhow, that's the logic of folks justifying Mario here. No assessment of right and wrong, character, values, commitment, loyalty, love or trust. Just hey, he'll make a few extra sheckles so sounds justified. Ultimately, that's who he is. I get it. But the folks who try to justify it, it's bull****. Stop trying to justify it.
 
Haven't had a chance to read the entire thread thankfully. A couple of things:

1. I might be able to understand this if it wasn't 1 month after accepting the gig, if it wasn't his alma mater who threw him a line after he was terminated, and if, most importantly, this wasn't one of Cristobal's dream gigs. I don't know what sort of constraints Mario's under. Maybe he's in debt, but this, in the grand scheme of things, is just a terrible long-term decision. I think even the Cristobal supporters have to admit that.

2. Moving forward, I would attempt to get Eddie Gran from Cincy, though I think that would tough given his relationship with Tubberville. My next choice would be Trooper Taylor.

3. Must get Or convince Lockette to be Dir of Ops. Close Dade and Broward down for the next 2 years.

I guarantee you I would look very skeptically (and have) at folks who have jumped like that when I'm evaluating job candidates. It's a clear indicator of potential concerns around a lack of commitment, a lack of self-awareness, a lack of honesty, or all of the above.
 
Bama is basically trying to pull rank on us, I see this as a personal **** you from Saban at this point. Hire Trooper Taylor.

Mario's dead to the U. No effin chance he gets the door opened for him again. He must know it, too.

His ego just couldn't handle reporting to AG. I'm sure Nick turned the knife in him, too. A few well placed comments. 'You know, Mario, what most impresses me about you? It's that you are so low ego. You can sign up for a position at UM where you report to a guy who hasn't accomplished anything more than you have in your career. I sure hope Al Golden knows how lucky he is to have you.'
