Benedict Cristobal is gone

His dream job is to be the Head Coach at the University of Miami. I wouldn't think that he would want to burn any bridges with us by leaving 2 months after he took the job. Him leaving after a year or two max is expected, but not 2 months.

Guys, this isn't even confirmed. It was started by Chris Stock, who is Mr. Amateur hour. And if he DID talk with Saban, it doesn't mean that it wasn't as a courtesy, and it doesn't mean it was without Golden's blessing. Relationships.

Way, way to little to worry about now. Keep calm and carry on.

I remember rumors that Golden was interviewing for every job known to man surfacing, what, ever year? How much merit did any of those end up having? The man hasn't coached a single game here, let the rumor train rest until then at least.

Saban has been interviewing a whole bunch of big named college assistance for the job so I would not panic right now. He interviewed South Carolina's Shawn Elliott yesterday

I'm not in a panic. However, I can assure you that I'll take a completely new view of CrystalBall if he did interview with Bama. I don't really care if he gets the job. The interview, if it took place, is enough for me to be done with him.

I hope one of the muckraker fake journalists down here actually has the intelligence to ax him about this.

It speaks well of Miami/Cristobal that Saban would interview him for a higher position.

It's not a higher position. He's the Associate HC here. And it would actually speak horribly of CrystalBall if he interviewed.

the Associate HC title is given just so they have an excuse to pay somebody more money than other assistance it means little IMO

I'm familiar with empty titles, as I refer to myself as the King of Ft. Lauderdale. But I'm pretty sure Al made it clear that CrystalBall is not going to be a standard TE corch. He stated that he already leaned on him and has done some strategizing with him.

As some of you know I live in Tuscaloosa and one of my best buds who breathes Bama football and is a bartender on campus (ear to the streets) thinks that they will hire Pat Hill, current OL coach of the Atlanta Falcons, TIFWIW

I'd be willing to bet he's spoken to Saban out of courtesy, but that's as far as the interest will go. Cristobal knows he's on track to one day be the next HC at Miami if he plays his cards right. Leaving a month after being hired is pretty much burning that bridge.

I say bring in ONLY those SERIOUS guys who would have to be dragged away to fill these assistant roles(RLewis, LThomas, KDorsey, etc)

Mario has been a head coach before. I don't know anyone who used to be "The Man" and then decides to go work under someone else and take direction for the long term; it's just not how it happens. I didn't expect him to last more than 1 full season, but ****! He just used this place as a means to getting back to the top.

Offensive line coach at Alabama is a better coaching position than Tight Ends coach at Miami, and I'm sure it pays better.

you'd be wrong on both points

Stop that. 'Bama's on top right now. To get a call from them is a big time pat on the bac for a coach. Not to mention the importance of an O-Line coach supersedes that of a TE coach. Similar to James Coley, the position presents a great resume booster, so I don't lament him interviewing.

You'd still be wrong, Its not a better job and it wont pay more

It is. And the incentives are likely higher given the school and the position.

Okay if Mario leaves hire the central coach to the same position, hire Trooper Taylor to the same position or move Caroll back to TE coach give the associate HC title and hire Lamar Thomas to coach WRs.

Would this raise questions about Golden? Alum and Miami native leaves a month into the job

The fact that Golden was able to convince Cristobal to take the position in the first place is pretty incredible. He's overqualified. It also says Golden hires quality coaches. Who would want a coach no one else wants?

I assume Saban needs to find someone who has an expertise in rich-talent SoFla HS football players so it is Mario that he might want to hire. :hmm:

SO going from an Associate HC/Maybe coach in waiting to be an OL coach seems like a step down to me, at most he'd get paid 450k at Bama he makes more here so again you're still wrong.

What does an "Associate Head Coach" even do? Coach D is the "Assistant Head Coach". How are their responsibilities different?

The reason his base salary is bulky is because he's overqualified for the position and he needs another reason to stick around. That's why I said incentives.
