Bad news on butch front

They will not hire Butch. They make big splash hires with generally young guys and the NCAA stuff attached to Butch is something Florida wont touch.

Probably. And Butch coming back to UM is as unlikely as going to XHamster and finding a bukkake video of Donna.

We had the video taken down last week.

I'm glad you think Butch is returning. Me too.

go on?

I would be glad if he was returning. I'm sorry for the unnecessary hope I just bumped. Nothing new to report.

Maybe UF goes after Petrino. No idea what UF is thinking, nor is it on my list of 572 things to worry about. As much as we want UM to think that we can strong arm them to make a decision on Golden, they may not make a decision for a year or two.

Yeah...I'd rather UF get Butch than Petrino.

You put a guy like Petrino at Miami, FSU, or UF where he can consistently recruit South Florida skill position talent and his offenses would average a ridiculous amount of points per game.

This would be horrible news for us...it would make Florida better overnight.

Butch will get a job like a Petrino did at WKU before getting a Power 5. Could be very wrong on this but similar scenarios

He's too old to have that be a career gameplan though. Even if he gets hired at a WKU type place tomorrow and does 2 great years there, that'd make him pushing 66 years old and looking for a promotion. Not a whole lot of places going to be interested in a new hire that's closer to 70 than he is 60 and had to rehab his image.

It's obviously improbable and not preferable to most around here but if Alfred remains then Butch would be just as well served careerwise to come in here as DC/Jr Asst VP Head Coach. Fixing our D would serve just as well career/image-wise as leading a WKU type place and he could roll the dice on Alfred moving on at some point and getting to finish out his career here as HC.

I'm not saying you're wrong or that I disagree with your statement here, but I did want to point out Bill Snyder is 75 and got back in at KSU and is doing pretty well, especially considering they re in Kansas, not exactly a hotbed of talent. Point is it's not likely, but it's also not impossible.

The Gators will probably go after Mullen hard. I would. Butch will get a job this year if he wants it.

No question about it. Say what you want about Mullen, I'm no fan, but having MSU where they are and potentially playing in the $EC championship game will have him as their undisputed #1 given their history.

I absolutely don't think it should be a disqualifier as guys like Snyder can run a program better than most guys half their age. I just can't think of any instances where a new hire was made at top tier program in which the guy was in his mid to late 60's (even the Ol Ball Corch I think was only 59 or 60 when USCe hired him). I don't count Snyder going back to KSU as he had a previous tenure there of almost 20 years. I especially rule out UF for Butch based off of what they're leaving in Muschamp. As hot a name as he was, there was still a very sizable portion of their fanbase that wasn't impressed with hiring a coordinator. Foley absolutely can't make a hire now like Butch where he'd have to sell his merits to their fans. Those clowns are going to have to try to make some sort of splash hire.

from what I understand no coach from the Meyer era will be considered.

it is still too early but early rumors seem to have smoke around gundy, richrod, and Freeze as top targets

UF is gonna go after a big name/offensive genius. The high ups at UF want the explosive offense they used to have back.

Then they need a 250 pound FB playing QB and running dive options.

Also, as much as I hated Tebow as a gator, he did a great job winning games in that offense.

I saw RichRod too. Holgerson as well. Both seem like guys to me that are better suited for the lower pressure climates such as Zona and WVU where they can perpetually surprise people but I don't really know and wish them nothing but heartache and tragedy shall they get the job.

Very surprised if Foley were to hire RichRod or Holgerson. Needs slam-dunk hire - can't afford whiff of baggage.

And who says you can't have good d under Petrino?

With the budget UF has they could afford to get Petrino, go cheap on the OC since Petrino would be calling the plays anyways...and get themselves a top notch DC.

I'll reiiterate....no way in **** would I want Petrino at UF. I'm also on record as saying many of you are overrating the **** out of Butch. Great recruiter...great eye for talent.....****** game day coach. I think many on this board are either too young to remember or weren't as big of fans back in those days. I was....I remember.

Petrino > Butch every day of the week and 475 times on Sunday

The love affair with Butch is simply mind boggling to me. I'd be disappointed if that's what we replace Golden with.

I've said it 400 times before and I'll keep saying it...we need a young, aggressive, intelligent OFFENSIVE coach. Couple him with a good DC (which in theory you could accomplish by letting the head guy call plays therefore lessening the need for an OC) and to me that's the right formula for the modern game.

Interesting. I would think Mullen would be the obvious choice.

I think UF will go after Whittingham from Utah who has proven with a small budget he can compete in Pac 12 as Mullen will be a long shot now.
