At some point I hope Tate gets a shot at QB...

What the fvck does Ohio State have to do with the shot he got here at Miami?
Nothing, as he got beat out by a top 15 NFL draft pick and the nation's #1 dual-threat QB the following year. That situation is irrelevant to Miami.

And His skills are those that enabled him to throw for 41 TDs and rush for 21 TDs as a senior in high school. He's not the type of player to be shoved under center and asked to drop back and run a boomer offense. I suspect you knew this already and are just being a Gaylord.

Stop asking stupid questions.
Always loved the derogatory term “Gaylord” well done sir

Doesn’t have the body type to be a qb. He has small hands which is why the ball comes out wobbly so often. Even shorter qbs like Drew brees and Russel Wilson their hands are big and able to really grip the ball which is why you see such a consistent throwing motion from them
I wonder when Rubio and Trump are going to chime into this discussion?

Post of the decade

Somehow our fans dont get this. IDK

Not sure where the myth came from that he has a bad arm. His arm just didn't get worse once he stepped in our QB room lol. Our fans saw one or two videos of him throwing a questionable pass & all of a sudden he's not it. When this staff has shown time and time again their practice evals leave a lot to be desired. The best week of practice we had we lost to a transitioning GT. Our best defensive player didn't start the first few games because he had a bad training camp. No Brooks but we play Ragone? No Burns but we play Jimmy Murphy.

Point blank at this point i'd like to see what we have in him.

big facts

For one reason...his record as a winner:
"For his high school career, Martell went 43-0 as a starter, throwing for 7,507 yards with 113 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Martell also ran for 2,294 yards with 35 touchdowns. As a senior, Martell threw for 2,362 yards with 41 touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 1,257 yards and 21 touchdowns."

Practice is one thing, game time is a whole different atmosphere and some players shine on game day, others choke. If pretty looking counted Bernie would never have been tried at QB.

Just when we think the fan base can't get any dumber, a new contender rises to the challenge.

As always with Miami, a few quarterback options but nobody stepping up head and shoulders above the rest.

Williams should've gotten some snaps last year to get broken in, but Perry couldn't take the job and Rosier was mixed it for his "experiences".

This year it was Williams out the gate and Perry got the nod over Martell at the three slot; which doesn't say much for Tate—if he couldn't beat out Perry and Williams.

So the kid won in high school on a loaded team. Never got the nod at Ohio State, transferred as to not compete with Justin Fields (and Buckeyes changing offense) and with a full spring at Miami, couldn't beat out two guys who are hardly worldbeaters.

At some point it's time to let go of the kid's high school resume and admit he hasn't done much in college.

Yes, it'd be fun for him to get some snaps against the likes of an FIU in a few weeks—but his legend is far outliving his actual abilities if he can't win a starting job.
I agree about last year, Jarren would've been better prepared if Richt had used him.

First off, you've lost your **** mind if you think our problem is the QB. There are QBs who could do a little more with what we've got, but there isn't a QB in existence that can make this O run well without the OC doing a better job.

Second, you've been around way too long to fall into the trap of thinking a guy who balled in HS is necessarily going to ball in college. Seriously. Yeah, some guys perform best under game pressure, but if you can't show some of that in practice than all you are is the guy who's going to let us fall behind 21 point every game before he decides to start playing.

Manny has told everyone that Williams is his guy over and over...know why? He has said that too. JW does not turn the ball over with the frequency of the other two guys. Manny was hoping that playing it "safe" under center with a strong defense would get the wins.
Manny & Enos likely did choose Jarren due in large part to ball security and data showing that turnovers are a key determinant of wins & losses. There are three problems with this currently:

1) when you dink & dunk too much the D starts sitting on the short & intermediate routes...and the game becomes much much tougher after film is out there for opposing coaches to watch;

2) Jarren threw three INTs in less than 1.5 quarters of football against Va Tech (which completely flies in the face of why they chose him & did lead directly to a loss);

3) stats & data analysis don't tell the whole story in football where the human element plays a major role. Intangibles are huge for a QB. Poise, pocket presence, moxy, leadership, motivating your teammates, communication, decision-making and competitive spirit all count significantly for any QB.

Jarren is an accurate passer when he's healthy & playing well. However, I hope he'll really leverage that last winning drive at Pitt to start showing more fire, life, leadership & competitive spirit as QB1. You can be too cerebral as a QB. You also want your deep threats to feel engaged & likely to receive targets in the game (otherwise they could tune out/start running cr@ppy routes, stop blocking effectively etc).

I'm encouraged that he's planning to run more when his receivers aren't open. It was great to see him laying it all on the line on that key scramble against Pitt. That's refusing to lose...and that's exactly what this team needs. Show them you won't be denied & you don't want to take Ls. Fire up your teammates & let's get this offense humming. Conservative play is great if it prevents multiple turnovers but not to the point where your offense is gaining less than 200 yards.

If Jarren uses all of his talents as a dual threat QB, he will move the chains more consistently. He will also be much more difficult to defend. I believe he is capable still of growing significantly as a QB (getting rid of the ball faster, making faster decisions, going through his progressions and being a tougher, more fiery competitor). I'm rooting for him to continue to progress & start showing some moxy as QB1.

The FSU game is unfortunately not the game to play Tate (other than maybe a series if our O is really stalling out). Tate won't be able to turn the corner against FSU's speed on D. Watch the UF tape again & you'll see him get swallowed up by Florida speed when he ran. I felt bad for him actually. FSU isn't a great team but they have speed. This isn't the game for Tate unless we're really going nowhere with our other available QBs (and Tate is allowed to throw & not just be a runner -- which would totally limit his effectiveness). I do hope we get to see Tate play 2-3 series in another game. I'm curious to see how he does. I think his passing game is unfortunately not too strong.

I've been a Jarren backer and still think he has potential to be very good. But right now its time to get Tate in there.

Tate's ability to move in the pocket and create when the play breaks down is what this offense needs right now.

Kosi is not the answer and Jarren needs work, give Tate a shot.

Who ever said; JW is the best passing Qb we ever had in decade may wanna hold back a little bit on that comment?

GR8 PLAY BUT THIS BALL IS CLEARLY UNDER THROWN AND COULD HAVE BEEN A TD IF POPE DIDN'T HAVE TO COME BACK FOR IT! Not knocking it but it's clear as day. Happy he made the play though.

Go Canes!
It is a knock and one that’s well deserved. Jarren has NEVER thrown an accurate deep ball. Every time his deep ball is under thrown. Now other teams defensive coaches have caught on as well. They are moving up the safeties and stacking the box because they don’t have to respect Jarren beating their CBs deep. Bud Foster straight up said this post game interview.

As bad as FSU plays at pass defense, their CBs are fast. They have make up speed to knock down or pick an under thrown deep ball. Jarren should be on a short leash this game is all I’m saying. If I’m Enos, he gets pulled if he misses a wide open JT4 or Pope down the field. Deep balls are one area where Kosi and Tate don’t have an issue.

Because we have connected on SO many deep balls since kosi has been the starter lol.... he struggles with it too. This moving up safeties into the box comment gives it away that some of you all don’t actually watch these games closely because after the va tech game teams have been doing that to Miami in every game and that’s with Jarren not even playing much the last 3 games. People keep harping on those bud foster comments like it’s supposed to mean anything when the kid was clearly playing with a seperated throwing shoulder. Of course his arm wouldn’t appear as strong on film

Problem vs Fla was that D was keying to stop the run. On several plays where Tate was the decoy, they bought into that decoy and positive gains were made.

What an ELITE throw from Williams while being under pressure in his face with a guy jumping at you and the game on the line. People not giving that throw justice enough IMO

We have seen him do this before too. Close but no cigar here unfortunately
