Anthony Chikillo Post

I love how people keep talking about how slow chick is and how he would miss sack opportunities, but neglect to mention how much more difficult it is to be quick at 30-40 lbs heavier than you should be.

You love it? It was painful to watch.

It was very painful watching him get fatter and fatter. It should be some indication his best season was as a true freshman.

Good for Chick to speak up on this. The bottom line is if Golden didn't have the horses to run a two gap 3-4 (which he hasn't had yet in 4 years) then he should've changed it up. Putting 40 lbs on CHick and taking the one thing away from him that he was effective at and making him a completely ineffective 5 Tech DE is another indictment of Golden. Props to Chick for speaking up after he left.

The best part about the discussion here: we're actually going to have an answer to many of our questions. People have been talking about Chic getting misused for years. Another group of people have been ****ting on him for years. He's getting an opportunity to play at the weight that he wants to play at. We're about to find out who was right. Pretty cool.

I like this perspective. If I'm a coach he plays a rush LB position in a 3-4 defense in the pros. He may be able to cover a TE if he needs to but otherwise see QB - get QB.

I'm curious myself. They still run that oldschool 34 over there. Maybe he gets some burn in their sub packages. Should be interesting to monitor.

He will be yet another example of a player who has a better pro career than college.

This. In 1 week of Senior Bowl practices NFL coaches/evaluators were totally blown away with how quick Chik's 1st step was. Pittsburgh will put him in position to take advantage of that gift and rip into the backfield.

Meanwhile after seeing Chik practice daily for 3 years, our dear coaches coached him up to do the exact opposite: stand up, read the play, engage the offensive tackle and hold the line. Here's an analogy - Take Duke Johnson, bloat him up to 235 and run him like a fullback in short yardage situations only. Then slim him down for the Senior Bowl and give him a toss sweep. Guaranteed his pro career will be better.

They bloated Perryman up ridiculously too. He looked like someone stuck an airhose in him. He jumped off the screen athletically and explosively as a freshmans and then got a little slower and less explosive every year.

They were running a 3-4 defense what position was he going to play at 250? Definitely wasn't going to play over the outside linebackers we had, Couldn't cover the receivers. At the end of the day chickillo had 15 sacks in his career at the U and was far more productive than a lot of dlineman including the de Mario Edwards from fsu who was taken in the 2nd round. Quit blaming everyone else for why he didn't get drafted higher.

Go root for another team homeboy
Im a cane all day man, will never been anything else...

You act like you WORK for the Canes...that's about all I'll give you. Give the *** kissing a rest

Maybe they should either get players who fit their supposed scheme or you know, ADJUST SCHEME TO YOUR F'N PLAYERS YOU HAVE!! even little league coaches know this. **** even Mathew McConaughnahay knows this after filming We Are Marshall.. not our coaches though.

I have to put this on Chick. He gained the Freshman 50 and never worked hard enough to drop the weight. I'm sure Coach Golden told him to drop the weight as it wasn't healthy for him to carry that extra weight and Chick refused. Now that Chick no longer has a meal card and training table, his weight has gone down to his natural weight. I'm happy for Chick that he now has his weight under control as it will add to his longevity.

Sorry, but could not disagree more. Jimmy Johnson revolutionized college football using slim, strong and fast d lineman, but Cromagnon Al decided to return the program back to the cave man days of college football with his U Fat program, even Stacy Coley has gained weight and lost speed. Olson Pierre could barely even move by the time he was a senior.

Fortunately, things can change quickly. Take a look at what Malzahn did at Auburn, he changed his d line from fat and slow to strong and speedy and they are great again. The sooner Fat Al is out the better.

sometimes u guys just say the most random stuff. Chick and DP were over weight but DP was still making plays all over the field. Coley didnt get slower. Peirre got stronger and faster. Dorsett and Duke actually got faster. They run a horrible scheme but sometimes u people just grasp.
